True Mates

2496 Words
I run in human form, my wolf begging me to shift, but I told her on the way back we would run, and she calmed down. I got near the big rock that serves as the landmark and he was there waiting for me. “Hi, Pacey!” He looks at me leaning in the rock. “Long time no see Aleena.” “I need to talk to you.” Looking directly at him and pointing in a certain direction. He understood. We start walking to a place near the Lake House hidden inside the forest, only he and I know about the existence of a small waterfall that goes to a stream that leads to the Lowlands pack, which is not close to the border that the patrol passes by and see, but not very far away also. We got there in no time. I sat on a bench that Pacey made beside the waterfall, in very warm days this is a great place to be. “I found her.” He looks at me expecting. “I found our True Mate, the one that is destined to be with you.” His eyes spark. “Who is it?” I look at my hands. “I can’t tell you.” His eyebrow shots up with a what look. “What is the point of finding my Mate if you do not tell me who she is?” He pouts.  “I don’t want to take away the first moments of you with her and I haven’t told her yet.” He becomes serious.  “Afraid she will not believe in you?”  That also. “I sense you have a plan, like that time with Ginny, that you asked me to keep the guards busy and away from the road.” Smiling he makes me look up at him. “Maybe. I do not know if it’s going to work. My brother believes in me and wants to stay near his destined mate. The Alpha did not agree to that and is forcing him to mate the one he chooses. I don’t want that to happen to you both also.” “What is your brother going to do?” Looking straight into Pacey’s eye. “I trust you. He is going to announce the union at the Chosen Mate Ball so that the Alpha can’t interfere.” Pacey is a warrior so he can see the good and bad points of that. “Going against an Alpha, he may be expelled from the pack, even if you both are the gamma children. Do your parents know about this?” I don’t know how much my parents can go against the Alpha, even for us.  “No, and do not tell them also, they might tell the Alpha.” “Aleena, I have seen a lot not only in my guard days but also in my craziness days, maybe you should trust your parents a little more.” His voice was soft and confident.  “You are the second person telling me that.” He changes the subject. “What do you need me to do?” I have an idea. “Stay ready. You know I can’t mind link you so far away only the Alpha can. I do not know if he is going to do or not, but if you receive a mind link from the Alpha or any other person at the Night of the Ball, please run there.” His face falls with disbelief. “You want me to go to the Ball?” Hope this will work. “I will try to make sure she is there also, and that you can scent her.” He looked at me eyebrow up. “It seems you know a lot more than you are supposed to.” “I have my ways.” Smile innocently. He sighs. “I owe a lot to you. I have my life thanks to you. Now you want to give me my world and heart back also. Whoever gets to be your Mate, will be one lucky man, and probably will have the best pack in the world. “Who would want a rejected wolf?” His voice changes to a dad scolding one. “You are not rejected, maybe this pack is not the best for you. If you were not born here maybe the proposal of that gift of yours would be lost forever.” I doubt this is a gift.  “You all call it a gift and I am glad I can help you all, but sometimes it seems more of a burden. “He picks up my hands. “Aleena, you do not understand the power you have. A pack with all true mated wolfs will be the stronger pack in the world, you must be careful, people might take advantage of you, or worst kidnap you.” My eyes are wide open looking at him. Kidnap me, who would want to do that. “Since they do not believe in me, I don’t think that would be something happening.” “Still, always protect yourself, you never know what goes around someone's mind.” He looks serious, talking, and for the time being, I felt secure and understood. Then I got a mind link from my brother. “I need to go. Pacey.” Kissing my forehead. “Yes, Aleena.” Looking at him with worry. “I know that an Alpha order is almost impossible to break, but trust me on this, I know she is the one.” Hugging me. “I trust you my life.” I went beside the waterfall, left my clothes there, and shift to my wolf. Once I got off the waterfall, Pacey gave me a little nod and I took off running till I reach the packhouse, and my brother waiting for me at the entrance with some clothes. I shift on the folding-screen on the side and he passes me the clothes on the top. “What is the rush brother?” With arms folded on his chest.  “Although we do not have classes these 3 months, we still have exams to take right.” I roll my eyes, I knew. “The problem?” He stares at me intensely. “You promise to go with me to the school library to get that book I need,” I remember that.  “Ok, the same question, why the rush? The next exams are in two weeks, you can go there later, besides is getting late, the school library may be closed.” He makes a triumphal smile. “No, it’s open until 9 p.m. for students and teachers only,” looking at his clock, “we got 30 m until it closes, and I need that book, we are going to have a study group right after the Ball.” I look at him funny, my brother studying “Since when you become worried about studies.” Blushing and getting strange. “Since Lin is great in them and I want to be able to help her.” I understood now. “OHHHH the knight syndrome.” He looks at me with a funny face. “What?” Trying not to laugh and maintaining a straight face, “knight syndrome, when a man wants to be able to rescue the girl in distress. Did you said to her you are great, and you can tutor her?” His feet became interesting.  “Something like that.” Punching him in the arm. “Ok Loverboy, get in the car or we will not make it on time.” He drove like crazy to the School Library, which is a building connected to the school, but that also was another door to the public. The connection to the school side in on the second floor of the building, the 3rd floor is the school archive it was a door also to the school but that connects to the office, and the first floor is the door to the other side of the building to the Public, almost like a 3 in 1 thing. We arrived at the public side and went inside. Alan told me what he wanted, and we got the book ASAP since I know this library upside down. He was at the balcony registering the book with the clerk when I smell her scent and started walking to where it came from. “Sis, where are you going?” Allan bounces his arms, between me and the desk.  “Just need to check something fast, be right back.” Looking at the clock.  “It closes in 15 so hurry.” I nodded. I dash to the place. The library has cubicles to study, more private. I follow until one of those for the teachers, they have books there, a couch to rest. I knock on the door and hear shuffling around and teacher Gloria came to the door. “Sorry is taking so long is already time to close?” She looked at me. “Oh Aleena, do you need something? This part is only for teachers.” Smiling at her. “Hello Teacher Gloria, can I talk to you for a moment?” We hear the announcement that the Library is closing in ten minutes. “Yes, come in, you can talk while I clean my stuff up and get ready to go.” I enter and see a small couch for two people on the right wall, the other was a big bookcase full of history books, and on the corner near the small window, there was a table full of papers, and a laptop, that the teacher started saving things, and shutting down. “What do you want to talk about?” Still looking at the screen of the laptop. “Teacher Gloria, do you believe in Destined Mates?” She leaves the laptop screen.  “I am a history teacher, of course, I believe in destined mates, I have read a lot of old diaries from the days that true mates existed.” “What if I tell you they still exist?” She pauses and looks at me, this time she had a lot of papers in her hands and has trying to put them all to file them. “I think that would be wonderful, but we don’t have reports of Destined Mates in about 400 years. That would be like the Moon Goddess was hibernating and decided to wake up.”  I nodded in accordance.  “What if I tell you that they always existed, but the Chosen Mate Ball, broke the cycle?” She starts to think and talk at the same time, “that would make sense since the Ball is done one year before the recognition of the bond by the wolfs. But how could there be true mates if the bond is broken?”  Continuing arranging the papers.  “What if someone could smell the scents of the Destined Mates?” Stopping and turning at me.  “Aleena, I know that since you are young you say you can smell people's scent, but that is not possible.” Her voice was now soft. “Because of the potion?” She widens her eyes at me. “You are too young. That is also a myth that the witches did to protect the packs.” I put my arms in my chest trying to prove to her that I know already.  “I know is not a myth, that it exists, and what it does.” She matches my stand as a teacher would do. “If you say that you know, then you also know that it would be impossible to scent with that supposed potion.” I smile.  “I can smell only not with the same intensity as if they were not with the potion.” She squints her eyes at me. “Ok, I follow, lest presume because of the potion and the breaking of the cycle, we can’t find our True Mates, and that you can scent them, why did you have to tell me this?” I fidget looking at her, hoping she would believe in me and made what I need her to make. ‘Please Moon Goddess, make her believe.’ A book fell from the shelf. It was the diary that I read once that talked about the potion and the war. She picks the book and frowns looking at it. “I found your Destined Mate.” She snaps her head at me with the diary in her hands. “I already had a Mate Brielle.” I gave her a little smile. “You had a Chosen Mate that died in the rogue attack right.” Saddening eyes remembering. “That means your broken bond from the first mate regenerated to give you a second chance mate.” I see her processing all the information looking at the diary several times. “Did you read this?”  Looking at her.  “Why would you ask that?” Tears in her eyes. Waving the diary in front of her. “This is the diary of one of my ancestors it talks about everything that you are saying.” Looking at the book she was showing. “I may have read it when I was trying to find out, why I could smell different scents in people.” “That is why you are telling me all this, you are using the information on the book, to make me believe in you.” Having the book around and pacing. “NO. Teacher Gloria, you were the only teacher that never made fun of me. That time I bumped into you I smell of Jasmin and Pine, and because of a dream I had about something that happened a long time ago I remembered his scent Rain and Pine.” Stopping. “I don’t understand Aleena?” “Don’t you see, you both have Pine as a scent, that means you are Destined Mates.” Pinching her nose.  “Aleena, that is enough. I always protected you in school, but this is too much.” I pick her hands with the book.  “Please believe in me, I will show you.” The announcement that the Library is closing came up. ‘Aleena, where are you? We have to go.’ Started walking to the door. ‘Coming right up.’ Looking back before leaving.  “Teacher Gloria, if you believe in me, if you still believe that Destined Mates, that your other half can still be out there, let me help you find it. Do not use the potion at the Chosen Mate Ball, and I will show you, your life.” I walked out the door with a teacher lost in thoughts looking at me. I got to the front door and out with Alan. “What was that about, you run somewhere, come back no book in your hand, where did you go?” Sighs “Finding a Destined Mate.” Alan froze open the car door. “You found another?” I nodded. He made a gesture like ‘In our pack?’ I nodded again. “Ok get inside the car and tell me everything.” While Alan drove, I told him what happened. “Do you think she will do what you asked?” He looks at me a little before looking back at the road.  “I hope so.” She did not give me an answer.  “This is going to be a to never forget Chosen Mate Ball, me announcing my Mate, you unite a Destined Mate.” “Alan.” His voice changed. He notices my tone too. “What?” playing with my hands. “I am scared.” His hand came to pick mine up. “Don’t be, I am always there for you little Sis.” I tried to smile at him.  We got home, had dinner, and I went to bed. One more day.
