William’s POV
I would never forget my true identity.
I, William Pierce, was a noble Alpha of the Colley Pack. By engraving my identity into my heart, I was able to live a humiliating life, disguised as an Omega. My father taught me never to charge at my enemy head-on. Hence, I learned how to hide within each pack, devouring their powers from the very bottom. Until one day, the packs would die under my schemes, and their territories would all become mine. This was how the Colleys became so powerful.
Whenever I encountered a dead body, I would place a white flower on top of it. Sometimes, I would also sing for the dead on top of trees. Those who did not know me might see this as some sort of redemption. Little did they know that I was the one who killed them.
I had been in this pack for some time, and they were the biggest pack I had infiltrated so far. The pack was currently experiencing war, with an extremely powerful Alpha family being in charge. I was surprised to find out that their future Alpha was a woman named Kate. More surprisingly, the girl who I saved by the stream was the leader’s young sister with the name Sierra. She was very weak, and her existence was disliked by many from the pack. There was not a single trace of Alpha energy in her. I suspected her to be an ordinary Omega, and I was proven right. The Tarlows paid no attention to her, only allowing her to be a cleaner within the pack.
Sierra was a strange one. I attracted her attention a long while ago, and she seemed to be infatuated with me. When did she start to notice me, and when were her feelings developed? To me, my partner must be beneficial to my pack. What made her think I would want to breed with a weak and powerful woman like her? How foolish.
I disliked weak werewolves. After all, they would only drag me down. I tried my best to hide my abilities, but Sierra seemed rather determined to court me. No matter how hard I tried to chase her away, she would cling to me like some sort of glue. What puzzled me even more was her determination to breed offspring with me. I highly doubted someone as weak as her could protect a child. Although her wolf had become quite agile, she was still lacking in strength. Her joining the defense team was something I did not expect, and she even requested to team up with me. As an inferior Omega, she still dreamed of protecting other werewolves on the battlefield. How oblivious could she be?
On the battlefield, I left my back vulnerable on purpose to lure the enemies into attacking, wishing to capture someone alive so that I could find out more about the Red Moons’ secrets. However, this woman—this frail woman—blocked the attacks from the Red Moon mutts. Her delicate body was covered in blood, and her lips were slowly losing their color. Losing her ability to smile, she wilted in front of me like a dying flower. I felt my heart stopping, and without hesitation, I tore the person who injured her into a thousand pieces.
Sierra’s POV
By the time I woke up, I saw the beautiful starry sky staring down at me, with tall white birches around the edge of my vision. For one second, I thought I was in heaven, but William’s indifferent voice pulled me back.
“You awake?” It seemed like a question, but William’s tone made it a statement.
I looked at William, feeling quite regretful. “I’m sorry, William. I suppose we’re both dead now… Ow!”
“Feeling pain means we’re still alive,” William raised his head and said to me, absolutely expressionless.
“Ah… I see.” I chuckled embarrassingly. Looking at our surroundings, I realized it was only the two of us here, and we were surrounded by the broken limbs of a dozen or so Red Moon werewolves. Both of us were injured and covered in blood. “William, did we… win?”
“We managed to kill this group of Red Moons.” I could not hear any sort of joy in William’s voice.
My eyes were glued shut by blood, but I tried my best to open them. “That’s great. We managed to stay alive too.”
“But we’re lost.”
“William, being lost should be the last of our worries as werewolves. You’re a funny one.” I laughed with the remaining strength I had.
William had transformed back into his human form. Even though he was still covered in blood, he still looked dashing. As he placed his hand over my furry belly, he said, “This forest is different. I can’t smell anything in the wind. Not to mention… you’re badly injured.”
I took a deep breath and transformed back into my human form. William turned his back, handing me the small pouch I had around my waist. After putting on my clothes with much struggle, I took out a small bottle of ointment. “Grandma taught me this recipe. I heard it’s quite good.”
William started applying the ointment on my body without saying a word. Then, he half carried me and helped me up from the ground. Together, we walked toward the edge of the forest. This was a foreign white birch forest. Even the scent in the breeze was strange.
“Why did you save me?” William’s deep voice sounded behind me.
“Huh?” I tried my best to process his question with my dazed brain. I could remember the battle being quite chaotic. Holding in the pain, I squeezed out a smile. “Do you seriously not know why I saved you, William?”
Hearing my reply, William fell silent again. Looking at the trees that did not seem to be decreasing, I asked him, “You were against Kate’s plan too, weren’t you?”
“Our opinions as Omegas never mattered.”
“If I hadn’t asked you to be my teammate, would you have left me? After all, you were only taking shelter in the pack temporarily.”
William did not answer. After a long while, he replied, “What do you want from me?”
“Haha,” I chuckled as my wounds stung. “If you really want to pay me back, have a child with me! I won’t accept anything else!”
With that, I pounced at him with my injured body, biting the edge of his lips. William twisted his neck awkwardly to dodge my advance, but his body did not reject my intimacy. Feeling a wave of achievement, I smiled, but the sheer pain and immense blood loss caused me to fall unconscious the very next second.
William’s POV
I was extremely grateful to see Sierra alive.
It was a strange feeling that I was yet to understand, but when I saw her open her eyes, happiness flooded my heart. At that moment, I forgot everything about the glory of my family and the fate of my pack. Nothing was more beautiful than her orbs.
Nobody ever cared about me in my life, not even when I was young. Father and Mother only cared about the results of my training and whether I had brought glory to them all. Never once did they ever cook for me. I grew up craving my mother’s gentle gaze, wishing that she could wrap me in her arms and whisper to me words of motivation. Yet, even when she passed away from lethal injuries caused by the enemy, she never muttered words of love.
If only time could rewind. I wished she could tell me how much she loved me, and how proud she was to have me as her son.
Now, this young woman in front of me claimed to love me. A woman, so fragile and weak, wished to bear my offspring. She protected me with her body, made the best desserts I had ever tasted, and saw me as the most important person in her life. Showered by her trust and love, I felt fear. I had the urge to give up on my revenge and escape to a beautiful place with her, spending our days together as she slowly grew old. It was extremely strange of me to have these thoughts. Why would I imagine her aging face? Why would I find that beautiful? No matter what I did, I still failed to justify this feeling.
Dear God, please give me an answer. What is wrong with me?
