Catching Up

Scarlett POV

               “Scarlett, let me tell you the last two days have been anything but easy. I’ll start with what you remember last. We were attacked by rogues. At least fifty of them. Most were killed a few were captured. However, that hasn’t helped us much. So, let’s start right after the attack. When you notified us about Alpha Nolan’s injuries, he was taken into surgery with my grandmother. Most of the bones in his body had been broken. They needed to set them surgically because there was too much damage for his wolf to heal on its own. Unfortunately, even after they stabilized the broken bones he was still in a very critical condition. So, he’s still in a medically induced coma. You collapsed after he was taken into surgery, and we rushed you in here but the only injury we could find was your arm.” She paused as if thinking for a moment. “I don’t know if anyone else has realized it yet, but your arm healed in hours, and with how severe the cut was not to mention the blood loss that should have taken at least a day for most wolves.” Lily was speaking with her usual rapid-fire tongue. It was hard to follow at first, but I had years of practice at this point. “But we can talk about my thoughts on that later, it’s not important. What is important is for some reason you’ve been asleep for two days and there was no medical reason we could find for it. After what you’ve told me though I’m wondering if somehow your soul was transported with the goddess and maybe there was some crazy kind of time warp thing like we see on the movies y’know?” She added the last part with some kind of crazed excitement.

               “Lily! I understand whatever happened to me was weird. But what else? Stay on track!” I huffed at her slightly annoyed that she was drifting off to other topics. Related or not. I needed the general idea of what went down before I was overwhelmed with everyone else.

               “Sorry, Scar. It’s been a long two days. Anyway, I have pretty much lived in this room with you gathering bits of information here and there at the orders of Carter. He is currently our acting Alpha. Because you know, his dad is still in a coma. Carter has been in full Alpha mode. He’s been hunting down every possible lead to try to figure out why the attacks happened. Riley and his dad have been helping as much as they can but mostly, they’re doing damage control because Carter is in a bad way mentally. He’s all moody and hard to deal with. Your parents have been down here every day multiple times a day to check in, even though Henry has personally been following up on the increased patrols for the guards. The entire pack is essentially on lock down right now because Carter is worried there will be another attack soon. I think that’s just his paranoia though. Like I said, he really just hasn’t been right.” She took a deep breath and shrugged. “I’m sorry that I don’t really have more to tell you Scarlett, that’s pretty much everything I know. “She sighed heavily hanging her head a bit.

               I took a moment to digest everything. I nodded and grabbed Lily’s hands. “Hey, I’m here now. I’m okay. I’m sure your grandmother worked miracles and Alpha Nolan just needs his rest.” I said calmly looking her in the eye. “We will all be okay, Lil. Thank you for staying by me.” Her eyes had filled with tears again. I could tell my best friend was mentally and emotionally exhausted. “I’m sorry for scaring you, Lil” I added with a sly smile.

               Lily playfully slapped my hands and smiled at me. “Alright, are you ready for everyone? Because if I hold out much longer, they’ll have my damn head on a platter” She stated.

               “We might as well call everyone in. They need to know about my dream, or whatever we want to call it anyway. The Goddess said the pack is special. I don’t know exactly what she meant by that. And I’m sure it’ll help everyone to know at least I’m okay.” I could do without this part honestly, but it was necessary. “I’d rather not go over it a bunch so let’s see if we can get them all here at once?”

               “I agree. I’ll start linking them, you just rest. And yes, I know you said you’re fine but until my grandma checks you out, please humor me.” Lily said standing up. “I’m going to get her and everyone else. Do not leave that bed, missy!”

               I couldn’t help but laugh as she left the room. I would enjoy the quiet for now, soon it would be packed in here.

               Dr. Grace was the first one to come see me. She did a quick examination and said everything checked out and she couldn’t find reason to keep me longer. That made me happy because it meant I could meet with everyone in the conference room rather than crowding into the small hospital room. Although Lily kept watching me as if I would relapse into a deep sleep again at any moment. I found it amusing though. I felt fine, she would just need time to see for herself that I was just fine.

               I showered in the bathroom attached the hospital room and changed into the skinny jeans and tank top Lily had brought down for me. Thankful to be out of the hospital gown they had me resting in. Walking out as I pulled my blonde hair into a quick messy bun. Everyone should be gathered soon so I walked out of the room surprised Lily wasn’t sitting out there waiting for me. The walk to the conference room was short. I saw a few omegas bustling around who had grins on their faces when they saw me. Apparently, word had traveled. I nodded hellos as I made my way through the pack house.

               I pushed open the door to the conference room surprised when I saw exactly how full the room was. Carter was seated at the head of the table, where the Alpha sat. To his right Adrian, Gabrielle and Riley were seated, to his left sat my father and mother. Warren didn’t sit by Carter or his mother Mia surprisingly he was sitting a little further down next to one of the Elite warriors. Lily had mentioned before we split apart at the hospital that Warren was taking over as lead for the Elite teams. It made sense, with his Alpha blood but his brother being the heir to the Alpha title. This would allow him a spot to lead without needing to find a pack of his own.

               Suddenly I felt nervous but was thankful that I had taken the time to fully fill at least Lily in on my secrets. I mean I hadn’t exactly kept them from her on purpose, just things had gotten out of control. I was just glad she had taken the news so well. Surprisingly she had pieced minor ideas together and realized when I shifted into a white wolf that I was at the very least blessed. We were now certain that I hadn’t been dreaming and had been visited by Selene herself though.

               “Hello everyone.” I started standing at the opposite end of the table. The entire groups eyes falling at me as I spoke. “I’m well, I assure all of you before you start with any questions. I’ve asked you all to gather because its time as ranked members we all know my story.” I said with a little uncertainty. I glanced over at Lily who was seated with Dr. Grace.

               “Some of you know, and some of you don’t know yet. However, we have discovered that I am a wolf born of primordial blood. I am a direct descendent of the Moon Goddess. And over the last few days I have received confirmation of not only growing powers, but confirmation of my relation to the goddess herself.” I spoke clearly and with confidence I hadn’t had before.

               “The goddess presented herself to me in a dream like state while I was in my, coma?” I questioned looking over at Dr. Grace who nodded. I heard gasps and a couple of small comments of disbelief.

               “The goddess came to you?” Carter asked sounding like he didn’t fully believe me.

               “Yes. At first, I believed it was a dream. But, with recent events, I don’t think it was.” I said simply. I took a slow breath before I began to explain the entirety of my dream like state to the group. Thankfully everyone remained quiet until I had finished.

               “The goddess confirmed my relation to her. As well as trials coming, and the fact that while I am special, this pack is as well. I’m not entirely sure what she meant by that. I know it’s important though.” I said before finally taking my seat at the end of the table.

               “The pack is special. Could she mean that the pack itself is blessed?” My father mused.

               “It’s entirely possible.” Adrian said.

               “We’ll need to look into it further. For all we know she could mean that we have other blessed wolves among us.” Carter said. “We didn’t know about, Scarlett, until she came of age. Perhaps we have others?”

               “I don’t have the slightest idea guys. It’s just what I was told. I tried to ask more questions but then she was gone. “I said shaking my head.

               Carter and the others nodded back at me. “Well, I think it’s obvious that there’s someone else out there that knows Scarlett’s history. We’ll need to keep security increased and send some tracking teams to further investigate. I fear that the attacks will continue if we don’t take an offensive approach to this. As far as this meeting goes, I think that about covers everything for now. Everyone is dismissed.”

               The group all got up from their seats and dispersed talking amongst themselves as they headed out to do go do whatever. I stayed behind resting my head in my hands. There was so much to figure out still. Carter had walked over to me placing his hand on my shoulder.

               “Scarlett, I’m so happy you’re awake and well. You gave us all a scare.” He said softly. He looked as though he had aged over the last couple of days. I was sure it was from worry over his father.

               “Carter, I’m so sorry about your father. I tried so hard to help him.” I said fighting the emotion in my voice as it cracked. “I don’t know why I got so weak so suddenly.”

               He shook his head. “It’s not your fault. He’s stable for now. They just can’t wake him up yet. He still has a lot of healing to do.” He said trying to reassure me.

               We should go see him. Deva piped up in my mind.

               It’s not our place, Deva. I scolded.

               We need to go see him. Deva responded more firmly.

               I sucked in a deep breath before looking up at Carter who was giving me a funny look. “Sorry. My wolf is being a pain.” I explained.

               Carter raised an eyebrow “How so?”

               “She wants to go see your father.” I said shrugging. “I’m not sure why but she’s being insistent and rather cryptic again.” I said my voice heavy with my annoyance.

               “Well, if we’ve learned anything lately, Scar, it’s that we should probably lean on our wolves more. Let’s find out why. I’ll take you to see my dad. “His answer surprised me. Deva was grinning like a fool. I had no idea what had gotten into her. She’s been blocking me out a bit ever since we spoke to Selene. I nodded agreeing with Carter before standing up.

               “Alright then. Let’s see why Deva insists we see your dad.”
