Chapter 5

2172 Words
Kris POV "Kris!" I hear Peter's voice ring from my living room as I continue getting dressed. "Hurry up! We are going to be late!" Looking into the mirror, I have a strapless black dress that goes down just pass my knees. The dress is a little tighter and lower than I am comfortable with, but it was a gift. "Coming!" I get out of the room with my strappy black heels in hand. My hair is perfectly straightened and falls behind my shoulders down my back just above my ass. A pair of short hanging pearl earrings complete my look. "Damn. Who are you trying to impress?" I laugh at him as we make our way downtown to get to our reservation. Peter is quite built himself. He has soft brown hair and green eyes that are warm and inviting, but they can get serious very quickly as well. "This way." The host brings us over to our table and we thank her while the waiter takes our drink order. "No alcohol?" Peter questions me and I shake my head before smiling at him sheepishly. "You can't keep doing this to yourself." "I'm trying not to." I promise him, as we both know in the next couple of weeks is Ethan's anniversary of passing. Maybe this year it'll be better. "Let's just forget about it for now. Tell me what happened when Jessica got arrested." "Oh, you're going to love this." Peter smiles at me as he goes on to explain how Jessica flailed about and caused a riot at the station. His captain is not happy about her attitude towards them and put her in confinement for a couple of days instead of overnight. Keegan will be glad to hear that. "Ma'm." A waiter stops me from responding to Peter with a bottle of champagne on the table. "Compliments from the table over there." Following the waiter's finger, we see the founding members of Bishops Technologies. Keegan waves a small hello as Hunter gives a cocky smile at us. "Send it back." I say without feeling in my voice. The waiter seems uneasy about doing it. "Kris. Just take the bottle." Peter seems a little too eager to take a drink of this champagne, but I know what this means. There's no way I'm letting them get the upperhand by doing this. I'm not a toy and I'm definitely no prize to be won. "Ma'm, please." The waiter practically begs me to take it, probably nervous of defying them. That's not terribly surprising, since they have so much influence now. One of the reasons Jessica is trying to claw her way back into Keegan's life is because she's blacklisted from the Los Angeles socialites. When she was with Keegan, she was practically untouchable, but that just made other socialites despise her. Now that Keegan is no longer with her, I doubt she will have much success in LA. "I'll return it myself." I tell the waiter, but he is hesitant. "Don't worry. I'll make sure you're not in on this." Standing up, I grab the bottle and the two glasses. They watch as I head over. "How can we help you, Mrs. Warren?" Hunter's playful voice echoes in the corner of the restaurant as he leans back comfortably. The bottle is already open so I set the two glasses down and pour out the champagne. Setting down the bottle, I hold both glasses now filled with champagne. "And who do I have the pleasure of taking this with?" I smile at them. Hunter stands up to grab the glass from my hand and clinks my glass to take the drink. Before the glass can even touch my lips, their CEO grabs the glass from my hand and drinks it instead. Not often surprised, I look him in the eyes to see his light blue ones staring back at me. "Our apologies." His raspy voice makes me shiver in delight and then he gestures me back to my table, knowing that they'll leave me alone now. This is the first time I have heard him speak. How interesting. I nod politely back at him before making my way back. The moment my ass touches the seat, Peter is on me. "Holy s**t. Are those the founders of Bishops Technologies?" His hushed tone makes me uncomfortable as I can feel them all staring at me still. Kane, I think his name is is quite interesting, but his reputation precedes him. He's still one of the biggest players in town. I can see why. He is at least six foot and has a strong build. You can tell his naturally short black hair is ruffled up, but it suits him. Those light blue eyes are easy to lean into along with his naturally raspy voice add to his s*x appeal. "Yes." I answer Peter back as I continue to look at the menu. "They're even better looking in person!" He exclaims and I glare up from the menu at him. One thing I forgot to mention about Peter. He is 100% gay, part of the reason for his divorce. "Don't." I warn Peter. He's getting more excited by the minute. "How long were you going to keep this from me?" He threatens to scold me. "I am not keeping anything from you! I barely met them myself." Peter takes another glance at them and they have finally stopped looking over. Thank God. "It seems like one or more of them are interested." He snakes up an eyebrow. "Yeah, interested in getting into my pants" I roll my eyes. "Oh, come on. Lighten up." Peter smirks at me and then gestures to them once more. "Maybe you should let them." "That's disgusting, Peter." We both laugh at the idea, but the truth is Peter knows I wouldn't sleep with any of them. We continue our dinner with little to no interruptions until a loud glass shattering takes place right before dessert. Kane POV "What the hell was that?" Hunter asks me after Kris takes her leave and gets back to her seat. At first, I wasn't going to do anything and let Hunter and her take the champagne together, but it felt wrong to do that to Keegan. He said off limits. "We agreed, she is off-limits. Let's not push it. Not everything is over with Jessica." I say sternly towards them as we all still look over at Kris and her husband. They seem comfortable for the most part with one another. Her husband doesn't seem bothered by the fact that Hunter sent a bottle of wine over. Perhaps he is used to his wife getting hit on. I will give it to him though, that's hard to get used to. "Thanks." Keegan says to me as we start our dinner. "I really appreciate that." I wasn't going to risk damaging any part of our friendship over some girl. She may be interesting and sexy as hell, but rules are rules. "So, we have been talking." Liam starts as we make small talk with one another. "We know you and Jessica just broke it off, but we would love if you could come live next to us in Bel-Air." Keegan sets his fork down and thinks for a bit, clearly unsure of what to think about it. Maybe it is too soon to ask. He opens his mouth to give his response only for an older lady to come up and smack him hard across the face. Her hand backs up to knock over the bottle of champagne, which causes a loud glass shatter echoing across the restaurant. "You son of a b***h!" The old lady screams at Keegan. Oh, s**t. It's Jessica's mother, Rose. She's uptight and has essentially lived off her family's wealth her entire life. She really needed Keegan's money to save their company's financials, almost dragged our company into it, but we established long ago that we would not deal in any company's financials without all of us voting and approving on it. Because of that, Keegan used his personal profits to save their business. Guess that money stopped funneling through when they got divorced. "Rose, this is not the time nor the place." Keegan recovers from her slap across the face. Before Rose gets the chance to smack him again, Hunter stands up and grabs her arm. Using her other arm, she smacks Hunter to get his hands off of her. Geez. At this point we are all standing and drawing a lot of attention towards ourselves. The weirdest thing happens next when it looks like a bunch of the patrons are being led out of here while Rose goes on to her screaming fit. "How dare you show your face here? You disgusting man-w***e! You took advantage of my innocent daughter, raped her, got her pregnant! Now, you divorce her to fend for herself when you're done with her!" Rose is with Jessica's father, Jack, who looks disapprovingly at all of us. "Are you out of your mind?" Elijah lets out in anger. "Your daughter is a gold-digging w***e that latched on to Keegan!" I put a hand across the table and on his chest so that he doesn't hit this old lady that I am tempted to hit myself, but that's not who we are. "Rose. Rose. Rose." A woman's deadly voice comes through from behind Rose. Rose turns around to see Kris and her husband standing with everyone else in the restaurant gone. All of the patrons except for the wait staff are in the restaurant. What the hell happened? "YOU!" Rose points at Kris, recognizing her. "You're that manipulative lawyer who was sleeping with Keegan. You home-wrecker!" Kris scoffs at this and so does her husband. Kris walks around Rose and observes her up and down. Rose raises her hand to hit her and I get out of table setting to stop her, but her husband grabs Rose's wrist instead. "What are you doing?!" Rose exclaims as she now directs her hits against her husband while they both let out a little laugh. "I guess it is a family trait." Her husband's husky voice lets out a chuckle. "Have fun in jail, Rose." Kris' snarky comment makes me twitch in my pants and forces me to knuckle up a fist to stop any urges from coming out. s**t. "What are you talking about?" Rose spits out in disgust. She's about to spit at Kris but this time I move Kris back by her waist that forces her body to be in front of me, away from Rose's direction. Her finely shaped ass presses against my c**k, which just makes matter worse. "I represent Keegan Hendricks and have a number of witnesses" she gestures at the entirety of the restaurant "that you assaulted my client and we will be pressing charges." Her small hand goes on my hand that is still on her waist. She forces me to let go of her waist and I let out a breath the moment my hands are off of her. "Un-hand me!" Rose struggles against Kris' husband's grip and starts hitting him. "And the jail part is for hitting an officer of the law." Kris shakes her head at Rose. "Like daughter, like mother." "I'll take care of this." Her husband gives her a joking smile that enrages me for no reason whatsoever. Why am I getting so worked up? He takes Rose out while she is screaming that he will be hearing from her lawyers. Her husband starts calling up someone, presumably their lawyer. "Are you okay?" Kris' voice softens as she grabs a napkin towel off a new table and wraps it in some ice from the wine bucket to hand to Keegan. He takes it and puts it on his face, but for the most part he seems more pissed off than anything else. "Yes. Thank you, Kris." "That's what I'm here for, though this isn't exactly what I expected dinner to be like." She smiles at Keegan and basically ignores the rest of us. "I'm sorry." His sincerity really comes through and she nods. "It's fine, but you owe Peter a dinner here. This is his favorite restaurant and I'm sure he's upset that he didn't get to dessert." She turns to leave but stops abruptly. Turning back around, she looks at me in the eyes. "Thank you." "Not a problem." I respond back and gulp down as I try my best to not look down her body. "Tell your husband..." She c***s her head to the side in curiosity as I wait for her to tell me her husband's name. "Peter?" She lets out a huge laugh in response before shaking her head as we all look at each other in confusion. "Peter isn't my husband, but I'll give him your gratitude. And Keegan." She points her body in his direction. "This isn't going to go well with the press. I'd brace yourself."
