Episode One
Sonia was seated in her room as she tended to the bruise on her skin, her right arm to be precise. She sighed slightly, it was another day of her tending to wounds.
After she was done, she laid on her bed, careful not to tug at her injuries.
She looked up to the ceiling and sighed.
She was going to be twenty-three the day after tomorrow and honestly, she wished she could die on that very day.
She had suffered a lot.
Her attention was drawn to a picture which was on the table beside her bed.
She stood up from the bed with great difficulty as she took the picture with a small smile on her face.
It was a photo of her late mom and she when she was still young.
"I miss you mom, I really want to leave this world but I know you would not want that but I am tired, I am exhausted," Sonia wiped the picture as tears fell slightly from her eyes.
She wiped it furiously as she was aware her mom would not want her to cry.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Her eyes darted towards the door and she immediately cleaned every trace of tears in her eyes before keeping the picture frame save on the table.
She pulled herself up with a grunt as she walked to the door with light steps. She was careful not to pull the wound.
As soon as she opened the door, she was greeted with a slap. Her head whipped to the other side as she was not expecting the slap.
She raised her head to look at who had slapped her and she was not surprised. It was her stepmother. She only rubbed her cheeks slightly as she looked at her with a numb look in her eyes.
"What do you want?" Sonia asked with a low voice as she stared at her with a blank look.
Fiona, her stepmother, looked at her, the disgust and disdain evident in her eyes. Sonia noticed it but did not say anything, she was used to it anyways.
"Get dressed, you are needed downstairs and do not forget to hide those bruises of yours," Fiona sneered before she left the door.
Sonia sighed before looking down at the huge wound on her arm. How was she supposed to hide it?
Did she need to wear a sweater because that was the only option she had at this point? But people would think she was crazy.
It was the summer season, wearing a sweater was akin to dying but she guessed this what her stepmother wanted.
Fifteen minutes later, she walked downstairs, dressed in long sleeves and jean trousers. She felt so uncomfortable as she could already feel her sweats.
"Sonia," she heard her name being called and she looked towards the source.
She frowned slightly, it was her dad. She ignored him, the same way he always did to her.
"I am sorry my dear," he attempted patting her hair but she dodged immediately. She had lost all hope for her father.
"Stop all that, they will be here soon," Fiona looked at the father and daughter with a scoff.
For some reason, Sonia's eyes kept twitching. She felt as though something bad was about to happen but it was, she had no idea.
She swallows slightly as she hoped it did not involve her.
She looked around but she did not see her little sister, Tiana. She was the only one that made her feel she was welcomed. The girl was just seventeen but she was smarter than the people she referred to as parents.
Soon, Sonia heard a car pull up in a driveway. Her brows furrowed, it seemed they were having guests.
"They are here," Fiona shrieked excitedly.
"Let's go," she practically pulled the two out with her.
Again, Sonia had that bad feeling. It was like something was about to happen and while thinking about it, it was definitely related to her.
Soon, the car parked in the parking lot and the driver immediately exited the car as he rushed to open the door for the person seated at the backseat.
Sonia was quite curious as she kept looking at the car, she wanted to know who it was.
It did not take long for her question to be answered as the person who alighted from the car was someone she was very familiar with, someone who was close to her.
"Andre?" She whispered, surprise and shock morphing on her face as she looked on with her lips parted.
She stood numbly as she watched him approach them.
"Andre," she whispered once more, tears forming in her eyes.
'What is wrong with you Sonia? He does not deserve your tears, so why are you crying?' Sonia chastised herself as she secretly used the sleeve of her top to wipe her eyes.
"Mr Wallace, glad to have you in our humble abode," Fiona greeted with an excited smile.
Andre did not respond to her as he looked at the girl, Sonia who was trying so hard to make her presence feel small.
"Has she been informed?" He asked, his eyes not leaving her face for a moment.
Fiona cleared her throat awkwardly, "she has not been informed yet, but you are here now, I believe you are the right person to inform her," Fiona was good at flattery.
Sonia frowned as she watched and listened to the verbal exchange between the both of them.
What were they on about? What did she need to know about? These were the questions in her mind.
"Sonia," Andre called and she looked at him with hatred in her eyes.
Fiona noticed this and because she was standing beside her, she discreetly pinched her thighs causing the girl to grimace in pain.
Andre noticed her grimace and his eyes drooped a bit. He thought she grimaced due to him but it was far from the truth.
"What do you want?" She asked through gritted teeth and he sighed.
'She hates me, doesn't she?' He thought to himself with a sad look on his face.
"Behave yourself Sonia or I might just give you a trashing," Fiona whispered but Sonia was not ready to listen.
She despised the person who was standing in front of her.
"Sonia, we are getting married," he informed and she looked at him, her eyes widening rapidly.
