Chapter 20
Sophie POV
I glance at him for the fifth time, and I can't help the scoff that tears through my throat. I couldn't sleep all through the night yesterday, well, all thanks to my boyfriend, or should I say my boyfriend? And to think he was going to run after me and plead with me yesterday but he didn't do it, made me feel less loved. I mean, if he wanted me, he would've run after me and tried to calm me down, yeah?
"Annoying jerk!" I mumble and scoff as I glance at him again, and find him working on his desktop. It's crazy how he came to the office this morning and didn't even talk about yesterday like nothing happened. As much as I don't want to keep up with this bullshit anymore, I think I have fallen so deeply in love with him that I can't even imagine myself doing away with him. But wait a minute! Does it change anything? It doesn't even seem to me like we are in a relationship.
"Just forget it, Sophie. Focus on work, and everything will fall in place," I glance at him one more time before I resume work on my desktop, venting all my anger and frustration on it since I can't even vent it on anyone else.
It was finally lunchtime, and I didn't even bother to tell him that I want to go out for lunch. I need to step out of this place and clear my head from this anger.
Arriving at the canteen minutes later, I order the food I want to eat, and I sit there quietly to enjoy my food. The incident keeps playing in my head, and I can't help but get so angry that I rush my food angrily.
"Hey! Can I sit with you?" A strange masculine voice utters, and I raise my gaze to see a young man smiling at me while holding a tray that may contain his food. I can tell from the ID hanging around his neck, that he must be an employee of this company.
"Sure, why not," He sits on the chair across from me.
"My name is Asher, what about you?" He asks after a long silence, and I raise my gaze to look at him. Now that I have a good look at his face, he has a pair of brown eyes, and a pointed nose, his blonde hair fits him perfectly, although I don't know if he dyed it, or if it's a natural blonde. He has a chiseled face in summary.
"Sophie is the name," I reply to him casually before I return to eating. I am so pissed to even talk to anyone right now.
"Oh. Have you been working here for long? I've been here for about three years now, and it's my first time seeing you around," He must be a great talker because if he's not, he wouldn't try to start up a conversation with me. Well, you know I love people that talk, I mean, they are literally my type, so I'm going to cast my anger aside, and vibe with this energy. Who knows, maybe it'll help me calm my anger.
"I've just been here for about three months or thereabout... No, I don't think it's up to that yet," I reply to him, and he slowly nods his head.
"I'm in the marketing department, what about you?" He further inquires.
"I'm the CEO's secretary," I reply to him, and he gasps sharply.
"Why? You seem surprised. Is everything alright?" Seeing the shocked expression on his face, how am I supposed not to ask?
"Nothing. It's nice to meet you, and I'll be looking forward to seeing you again," He extends his hand toward me for a handshake, and I take it hesitantly.
"It's nice to meet you too, Asher," I smile at him.
"Wh...what are you doing?" I snap my head up when Xander's voice echoes in the canteen. I find him standing and glaring hard at us, his hands clenched beside him, and he looks extremely angry.
"It's the boss,"
"What is the boss doing here? He has never stepped into the canteen for once,"
"Why does he look so angry?" I keep hearing whispers from the employees in the canteen, and I sigh briefly.
"Nothing. We are just..." My voice trails off when I return my gaze to my hand and find out that I'm still holding hands with Asher. I quickly yank my hand off and stand up abruptly.
"Do you want to lose your job? How dare you touch her!" He yells at the top of his voice, and everywhere literally went silent for seconds, a strange dark aura radiates in the air, and I gulp down nothing as I suddenly become nervous. I have never seen him so angry since we've been together, and he looks dangerous with that look on now.
"Wh...why are you scaring them? I wasn't doing anything with him, I was just..."
"Shake hands with any man here ever again, and I promise to cut their hands off immediately," He cuts me off, and I scoff. This is crazy. How can he come here and act like this as if nothing happened?
"What is going on?"
"Why is the boss so angry? He looks jealous. Is he in love with her?"
"Whoa! I'm so jealous of her," Hearing those whispers makes me scoff angrily.
"Why? I am just your secretary, and it's lunchtime, which means that I can do anything, talk to anybody I want... It's not working hour, is it?" I try not to stutter, even though I'm a bit nervous.
"Is that what you told him? You told him you are just my secretary, is that why he was flirting with you?" He scoffs as he tucks his hands in his pockets, and I gulp down nothing.
"Hey! Stay away from my woman if you don't want to spend the rest of your life regretting it," He turns to Asher and threatens him, and I hear some of the employees gasp.
"Whoa! He's so cool,"
"I didn't know the boss has a girlfriend. She's so lucky," The two girls sitting behind me murmur, and I blush hard.
"Forgive me, boss... I didn't know she is your woman," Asher quickly apologizes to him, and he scoffs.
"Let's go, baby," He turns to me and utters as he holds my hand, and I feel my heart flutter. I feel butterflies in my stomach as he walks me out of the canteen. Wow! I have only watched this scene in Korean movies, where a boss acts this way, but now that I just experienced it, I feel so excited.
"What was that? Why were you shaking hands with him?" He asks once we step into my office, and I scoff.
"What do you care?" I scoff as I yank my hand from his, and he sighs briefly.
"You don't act like you care when you don't... You don't come out from nowhere and act like nothing happened. If this is how you're going to act, then..."
"I'm sorry about yesterday," The way he stares into my eyes innocently makes my heart freezes for seconds. He's just so handsome...
