Acting cold to her

Chapter 28 Sophie POV The last few days have been filled with Xander acting strange and avoiding me, which had me questioning myself if I did something wrong to him. I have tried to reach him even on his phone, but nothing ever worked out, since he kept ignoring my calls, and my messages too. He has also been absent from the office lately, and he would always ignores me whenever he came to the office, which has been driving me nuts. "Are you ok?" Zara asks as she walks past me and slumps on the bed. It's a beautiful Tuesday morning, and while I am getting dressed, she was busy with the house chores and all that. "Yes, I'm fine," I slowly nod my head since I have made up my mind not to ever talk about this with her since it has to do with my relationship. I should try to solve it first before I involve her. "Do you prefer I pack your breakfast, or will you eat at home before you leave?" She inquires, and I shake my head. "Neither. I'm late for work, and I need to get there as soon as I can, so I can't have breakfast or take food with me. I will eat when I get to the office," I reply to her as I pick up my handbag from the table before I storm out of the room, avoiding persuasion or tons of questions that Zara would throw at me. She will end up forcing me to take the food with me if I stay back there, and that is the last thing I want. Standing at the side of the road for about five minutes without a single vehicle passing by, I sigh frustratingly after I check my wrist watch wondering what is going on now. "Why is there no vehicle?" I mumble after I check my wristwatch again, and just then, my phone starts ringing, and I slide the answer button without even bothering to check who the caller is. "Are you at the office already, Sophie?" I quickly recognize the voice to be Xander's, but the way he sounded on the phone isn't like he was talking to me as my boyfriend but as my boss. "No..." "You should be here in ten minutes. We have a business meeting to attend," He utters and the call drops dead before I can say anything. "He's so annoying. What the heck was that?" I huff angrily as I glare hard at the screen of my phone before I keep it back in my handbag. How would I get to the office in ten minutes when it's not like I'm going to teleport or disappear to the place? While I'm still trying to sort this out, the car that just pulls over in front of me pulls her attention, and as the tinted glass wine down, I roll my eyes at the sight of Jason sitting inside the car. "Good morning," He smiles at me, but I only nod my head. "Hmm," I hum. "I don't think you will get a cab here this morning. The taxis are currently being checked, so only private cars can drive on the road for now. Do you mind if I drop you off at your office?" He offers, and I sigh silently. I didn't want to enter his car, but at this point, I need no one to tell her that I don't have an option now. "Thank you," I mumble as I pull the backseat door open and hop inside. The drive to the company begins afterward. Dead silence plays in the car as I stare out through the window. It's awkward being around him all alone here, but all thanks to this stupid taxi lockdown or whatever they called it. "It has been a while now. How have you been?" He asks, breaking the awkward silence, and I glance at him. "I'm fine," I reply to him casually, he slowly nods his head. "Hmm... Uhm... Will you be free after work? We can hang out together later, if you don't mind," He utters, and I sigh briefly. "I have things to do after work..." "What about tomorrow?" He cuts me off. "I won't still be free," I reply to him sarcastically. "I'm ready to wait until you are ready for it. I don't mind," He further says as he glances at me through the visor. "I won't ever be free... To go out with you," I reply to him before I stare out through the window. The rest of the drive to the company was filled with silence, and we finally arrive after a few minutes. "Thank you for the ride," I bow my head before I step out of his car, and I'm glad he didn't even bother to try to stop me because I won't take that s**t from him. I'm trying as much as I can to distance myself from him. As I stride down the lobby minutes later, I spot Asher going into the elevator, and I quickly walk up to him. We haven't seen each other since the incident that day, so I haven't really apologized to him for causing him the inconvenience then. "Hey, good morning," I utter as I follow him into the elevator. "Sophie? How have you been? It has been a while," He utters with a smile on his face. I like the way he always smiles, if only Xander can smile more often like this, he would be the cutest man. "I'm fine. It has been a while," I smile at him, and he slowly nods his head as he tucks his hands inside his pockets. "About the other day, I'm sorry... He didn't mean it that way, he was just..." "It's fine, Sophie. Anyway, if you want me to forgive him, why don't you have ice cream with me after work?" He asks with a friendly smile on his face, and I blink my eyes rapidly. "Huh?" I blink my eyes rapidly, because why would he ask me out on an ice cream date because he wants to forgive Xander? It's not that I was the one that scolded him, anyway. "Hold on, you know I have a boyfriend, right? You know Mr. Xander is my boyfriend, right?" I crease my eyebrows as I stare at him, and he rolls his eyes casually. "Come on, I'm not asking you out. It's just a harmless ice cream date, and it's fine if you don't want it," He shrugs, and I sigh briefly. "Alright then. Let's be quick about it after work then," I reply to him, and he smiles excitedly. "I will be waiting for you at the gate when you are done for the day," He utters before he finally steps out of the elevator once we get to the floor of his office. He turns and smiles at me creepily before the elevator rolls closed again. I finally get to the floor of my office, and I step out of the elevator before I head briskly to my office, and once I walk in, I find Xander standing in my office and staring at a file. "What took you so long?" His voice sounds a bit cold than usual, and I squint my eyes to be sure that I'm not hearing wrong, or rather should I say to be sure he's really the one? Either way, I'm shocked. "I'm sorry, there was taxi lockdown today, so it took me pretty much time before I could get here," I explain to him, and he finally turns to face me. "What happened to this file? I thought I told you to sort it out yesterday?" He asks as he shows me the file, and I bite my bottom lip. I have forgotten that he asked me to do that, but it wasn't my fault, anyway. He has put me in pretty much confusion lately, and I haven't been able to think straight about anything. "I'm sorry, I forgot to," I reply to him, and he scoffs before he drops the file on my desk. "You forgot? Are you kidding me? This is the file I am supposed to use at the meeting, what do you expect me to do now? I told you to sort this file before I left the office yesterday, and all you can do now is tell me you forgot? What the heck were you thinking about?" It's crazy and scary how he's suddenly so angry and taking it out on me now. "I'm... I'm sorry," I stutter, trying to fight back the tears that threaten to escape my eyes. My heart wrenches in pain at him yelling at me like that. He is talking to me now as my boss, and not my boyfriend, so I shouldn't bring up the issue of our relationship here, right? "Are you tired of working here? Do you want me to find another secretary, huh?" He slams his hands on the desk, and I flinch fearfully. "We have just twenty minutes before the meeting, do something about this," He utters before he storms into his office, slamming the door hard behind him, and I sigh briefly...
