Chapter Four

1017 Words
Adrian POV And there it is the one thing that will ruin my entire night. "Why the f**k is she here?" I whispered to my mother quite pissed at the fact that she had the nerve to walk in here. "Adrian as much as you and I both don't want her to be here." She said while giving a gentle squeeze to my forearm, "All unbonded vampires are allowed to attend as long as they are over the age of 21 and her daughter and son are over the age." I knew this but I didn't want herhere of all the places to be and set foot in f*****g here! I got up and straighten my suit jacket and started making my way to the garden in hopes that she won't try to start some s**t here. Ever since we split, she has been a thorn in my side. I decided to go easy on her and let her live in peace away from me. I sadly still had a soft spot for the woman at that time and even said that the reason behind our unbonding was because of my infertility. I put myself out there as a man who could not have children and I believe this true. Every checkup we had with the doctor she trusted always said we were very healthy and that he didn't understand why we could never produce an heir. The only conclusion was that one of us had to be infertile. After years of nothing we thought we were both infertile that is until after our separation when Bethany found her true bond and was with child only two months later. I was heartbroken to say the least. The pain was something I didn't want to bare so I turned to alcohol for comfort. "Adrian, is that you?" I could hear that same false sweet nasal voice, "Funny running into you here." She said acting as though she didn't know I would be here. "Bethany." I said coldly, "I was actually leaving." I replied half telling the truth. "Well, I wanted to tell you that my daughter found her bond here and I need the money to pay for the upcoming wedding. Nothing less than a million will do." She said with an uptight air. After the sudden death of her bond, I promised I'd help her and her children live comfortably, but again I was foolishly still in love with her. "I'm not giving you a million for your daughter’s wedding beside you should have more than enough to cover her plus the groom’s family should be helping as well." I said holding back my anger. "Adrian, I thought you said you would take care of me and my children for as long as we lived." She loved throwing that back in my face when I would reject anything she wanted because I so foolishly signed a contract with her. Again, I was just a sucker for her, and she wanted it in writing, but until I find my true bonded mate, I’m stuck with her bullshit. I sighed heavily "Let me see what I can do but I'm not footing the whole thing." I replied angrily. "Well, we will discuss this at a later date then shall we." She said bitterly. Could she just be happy that I was willing to help. I stormed off and headed to the garage that I know stored one of my favorite classic cars, a dark blue 1954 Maserati A6GCS Berlinetta. I grabbed the keys and shot a quick text to Damien. [Watch mom. I'm out!] I put the key in the ignition and revved the engine to life. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Damien POV I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. Normally to functions like these I keep my phone on vibrate or turn it completely off but knowing Adrian he's most likely going to pull a disappearing act. I checked my phone and what you know. I sighed only wanting to know who or what caused him to leave without a single word, but then I saw her. I gently nudged Mother Ruby and nodded in the direction that led to the outdoor garden. Her eyes immediately turn black and then back to crimson red. Like wolves their eyes will turn black, but the irises stay and when she does that, she is even more deadly. "Let me guess Adrian left." She said with a grim look on her face, "Yep". I heard a sigh escape her lips, " Well, at least he tried." I know a part of her is disappointed because she would love to dance with him before the ball ended but until his ex-cunt can let him go, that won't be happening anytime soon. Adrian has been battling this woman for almost 360 years now. I remember when they meant it felt off, but I didn’t argue with him I just let things roll. That woman was wicked from the start and still is. Always calling and asking for money knowing that Adrian gives her a yearly allowance of a hundred and twenty thousand, plus he bought her like five houses over the time frame. Ever since her bond somehow mysteriously passed away, she has been all over him. I’m still looking into that case even though he asked me to drop it. I could hear Mother sighing at the fact that tonight did not go as she thought it would. I got up from my chair and bow before her, “Mother would you like to have this dance?” I asked holding my hand out. “What would Adrian do without you?” she asked taking my hand. I led her to the floor and began to waltz with her. Honestly, I don’t know what Adrain would do without me and me without him. In a way we balance each other out. I danced with Mother Ruby for most of the night making it enjoyable as possible for her, knowing that maybe by the time the next ball comes she might not have Adrain attend.
