Chapter three Mai’s pov I woke up with a jolt, my body soaked with sweat. The horrors of last night kept coming back to me in the form of a nightmare. “What does this mean?” I asked myself but still yet no answer came to mind. “I need to go back to the old gym, there should be a logical reason for all this” I stood from the bed, got dressed and walked to my car, driving to the scene. I should have called Logan but I really did not want to. After putting him in danger last night, my conscience won’t let me bring him along anymore. I got to the place of the old gym. The place was not as scary as it was last night. The woods were full of life, animals moving up and down and birds chirping brought life to the forest. There it was, the old gym which was abandoned and forgotten by the town due to the rumors of strange occurrences happening in the gym. I walked to the gym, slowly, my hands tightly pressed down on my gun. Everywhere seemed normal, no sight of whatever attacked us yesterday. I opened the door of the old gym, the squeaking sound made by the door enough to announce my entrance. I walked in looking for anything out of the ordinary or something that would connect the missing people to this. After 30 minutes of searching, I found nothing. Frustrated about hitting another dead end, I sat down on the box ring staircase hoping the answer would fall down from the sky. That’s when I noticed it, the walls, scratches and were painted with blood. I walked up to the wall, curiosity coursing through my veins. The scratches were not made by anything I know of, these were claw marks. “A bear?” I asked myself trying to come to a logical solution. “No, there have not been bear sightings in our town before. So what made these claw marks?” I kept asking. I heard something move, I turned and looked at the direction where the sound came from but everything was still. “Who’s there?” I screamed but I was met with silence. I was starting to have a feeling of being watched and it did not feel good. “I should get going” but before I left, I took out my camera, taking pictures of the marks and scratches on the wall, also using a cotton wool to take up some blood on the wall to run some text on it. I dropped it all in my bag and walked out of the gym, still having that feeling of being watched. I walked quickly to my car and drove off. The office I quickly printed the pictures I took from the old gym and sent the blood sample to the lab, to check if it was animal’s blood or not. I stared at the pictures, my mind spinning with a number of possibilities about what those markings could be. Just then Logan walked in as I was brainstorming, his features as immaculate as ever. “Hey, Good morning Mia” he greeted, flashing me a smile. “Morning Logan” I replied as I stared at the pictures. “You came in late today, something wrong?” He asked “Not really” I then recalled what happened to him yesterday, “how are you feeling, Logan?” I asked sincerely “I feel good” He picked up the pictures on my desk, his eyes darkened for a bit but it was gone in a few minutes. “ What are these?” He asked, a ring of nervousness in his voice. “These are nothing actually but after what happened yesterday I couldn’t sleep all throughout the night, the scene kept replaying in my head like a bad movie tape. So….. I went back to the gym this morning”. I told him “What! Mia, why would you do that?” He asked, “ why did you not tell me about it?” “I felt bad for putting you in harm's way yesterday so I decided to go by myself” I told him and he shook his head in disapproval. “Mai, I applied for this job knowing how dangerous it would get. With the way people are turning up missing, you shouldn’t go anywhere alone, okay?” He reprimanded me like a child I chuckled “I’m fine Logan, let’s look at the bright side, I was able to get this” I pointed to pictures as he picked it up from my desk. “What are these?” He asked with a questioning look “I don’t know, the marks look like animal claws, the blood stained on the wall is something I’m trying to figure out. So I sent it to the lab already for them to access it” I said to him. “So when will the blood work come back?” He asked “Soon enough” I replied, just then the phone rang. “Or it should be ready”. I picked up the phone “Hello?” I answered and the person replied, I looked at Logan with anticipation in my mind, “it’s the lab.” Logan’s pov “It’s the lab!” My mind dropped, what would they tell her it was. I waited to hear the answer the lab would give to her. “Oh, I see. Thank you then” Mai said with a sad look in her eyes, she drop the call “What did the lab say?” I asked “It was animal’s blood” she said and I breathed out in relief “I guess that makes sense, explaining the claw marks” I told her trying to divert her attention. “I guess so, but how and what animal made these kinds of claw marks?” She asked and I shrug “I don’t know. You know what you need? A cold drink. Let me get you some” I said to her and walked out the office. My phone buzzed and when I opened it was a message from my team that I was positioned in the lab. I opened it and a picture of the true lab result was on my phone, with a text. “Boss it's not just a vampire but something more powerful” I paused as fear ran through my veins.
