Icy hands gripped my arm way to tight; I was panicking it was pitch black… I never liked the dark, afraid, mysterious, “Mama?” I whispered tears welled up in my eyes mummy had woken me up without warning and grabbed me, not letting me to grab anything that I would help me relax. She then led me into a tunnel that I never knew existed; as soon as my bare feet had touched the cold ground I had stumbled in shock; falling over I had grazed my arm; Mummy didn’t care though she neither helped me up gently or whispered kind words to me she didn’t even laugh. as soon as I scrambled up she grabbed my arm with a vice grip, I didn’t like the dark, monsters. They lurked in the shadows waiting to strike; I see them they laugh at me shout mean words then they would point to my friends and hiss “one day we will get you and them” when I told mummy she laughed and said that they were my imagination I trusted Mummy and knew she was always right so I tried to ignore my “imagination’s” as mummy had put it but instead it got worse; the monsters grinned at me, yelled and laughed I was scared. I soon found peace by doing rituals; No more than one song must be sung, and the song has to be about Light and no dark; Mummy would smile when she heard me sing; another thing I did was counting; three things in perfect order; I never told mummy about that one she would think I was weird Im glad that mummy did not know about it because then the monsters would take a hold of me if she took them away. my free hand went for the small bag that I took everywhere I’m starting to panic now; without the small bag I won’t be able to drive the monsters away from my friends! Tears welled up in my eyes, “Mummy!” I whispered forcing back the tears that threatened to fall, Mummy did not reply but her grip tightened Im in full panic mode; My safe haven and rituals cannot be done without the bag! It holds the few things that make the ritual work! They are one of a kind! Desperate to get the bag I Tried to yank my arm out of mummys vice grip, my heart was pounding with fear, Mummy did not react to my pulling, not daring to give up I start to wriggle my hand “MUMMY!” I cried my tears that I had been pushing back sprang from my eyes as if they had been waiting for the moment. “MUMMY!” I wailed again my throat was constricting the tunnel Mummy was pulling us through seemed to close in my screams and wails did not stop mummy she kept on pulling me along not giving up, panicking I started to kick -well tried to- I needed to walk but I wanted to kick and ended up falling over that made mummy stop; she let go and I sighed in relief my arm wa throbbing from where she had grabbed me, my relief is short lived I soon felt mummy’s arms slip underneath me and hoist me up to her, there was no chance now; the tunnel had gone pitch black and Mummy had not stopped to calm me down; kicking had got me nowhere and crying for mummy’s attention had failed; my tears were now silent, the bag seemed like a distant memory. There was no chance of light anytime soon, My efforts had tired me; Giving up on the hope for my Bag I closed my itching eyes. Bright light pierced my closed eyes something warm is laying on top of me the material was itchy but there is something relaxing about it I snuggle in closer to where the source is “Come on” a soft voice whispered “Get up dear” Sighing in protest I scrunched up my eyes “Do you want the Tickle monkey to come and get you?” the voice laughed softly as I sat up quickly and looked around wildly seeing Mama was a huge relief “Mummy?” I asked “Where are we?” the kind smile that was on mummy’s face slipped away “Hidden” My eyes widen at her simple reply “Hidden?” I repeated unsure of what she meant She gave me a nod of assurance that I was understanding what she said “Why?” Mummy frowned again “Bad people-” Mummy stopped her sentence short the faint crunching of leaves could be heard; I turned to my Mummy in a panic “What do we do?” she whispered underneath her breath nodding she smiled sadly at me “From this day forth I denounce your name of Eliza” she whispered Tears dripped down her face “and I give you a new name… nothing You will not have a name” a curious sensation ran down my spine as Mummy whispered the last few words “you are now an unnamed child.” Mummy finished her words the looked at my fearful face “I’m sorry that I have to do this to you” she whispered through her tears “but the Rebels won’t like me” Mummy did not any anything further standing up she smiled down at me; her red hair was lifted up into the air as she said one word: “Forget” or it at least sounded like it, there was a whistle, like it was actually wind blowing at trees and grass... I suddenly felt tired; Mummy would surely look after me… “Carla wait!” a deep voice cried waking me from my Blissful sleep My eyes opened to find nothing but trees where am I? “But Eugene” a woman groaned they were getting closer; The man laughed at what she said “Carla Remember we must be careful who knows what could be out here!” the man groaned looking round I could see the people who were speaking they were alone The woman smiled at the man “Eugene We are the only one here! Nothing has been disturbed to make a camp We don’t have to worry, It not like we will find A child in the middle of these woods” I wanted to scream in fear the couple were drawing closer and I had nowhere to run. There is no place to hide, what would they do if they saw me? Sitting alone in the clearing with no one around to look after me? They had soon reached to where I was “EUGENE!” the woman cried pointing at me. “There’s a child look!” the man looked around and his eyes landed on me he nodded to The woman and hey started to approach, when they were close enough I smiled and laughed “Daddy!” I giggled looking over at the woman Lifted my arms “Mummy I want Upsies!” the two people stopped to look at me the man looked over at the Woman and nodded she then bent down and gently picked me up “and what’s your name Dearie?” the woman said I frowned at that then smiled “I don’t have a name silly!” I giggled again “did we play hide and seek mummy?” the woman smiled “why yes we did dear!” look over to the man “What do we do Eugene?” she hissed the man sighed “We take her back with us Come on” I frowned the man was leaving me Tears began to fall “DADDY’S LEAVING ME!” I wailed The oman looked alarmed She started to rock me gently as if trying to calm me down “DADDY COME BACK!” I cried the man stopped and turned to me and the woman “Give her here Carla” he said nodding the woman walked up to The man and placed me in his open arms I was still sobbing though Daddy was leaving me! I was suddenly threw up into the air surprising me and making me forget what I was crying about as I giggled “I’M FLYING!” With on gust of air I found myself not in Mummy or Daddy's arms but floating in the air my hair flying around me I giggled again “Daddy Look I’m flying!” Daddy smiled Weakly “Yes come down now sweetie” nodding I said “Go Down” the childish command did not work “DOWN!” I said with more force “DOWN NOW!” I tried again with a note of panic “I WANT DOWN!!!” I wailed once again tears spilled out from my eyes as I hover in the air. “Do you have to Eugene?” the woman said with a lowered; I took no notice; I wanted down! The man nodded “It will help her control it” sighing the woman nodded The man lifted a small chain necklace with a beautiful stone up into the air “Be ready to catch her” he said as he lifted it higher, a warm feeling wrapped around me and soon I was flying no more; instead I was falling, plummeting to the ground. Soft hands caught me before I hit the ground “There there” Mummy whispered then brought me over to Daddy he smiled down at me Lifting the necklace he placed it around my neck “Always wear this unless I tell you to take it off” I nodded to show my understanding. “Now Carla let’s get going before they wonder what we have gone off to” nodding Mummy turned to the way they came ‘Should I?” she asked but daddy shook his head “Not with this one here” he said “Now let’s go!” he said with a smile With long strides he was leaving the clearing Mummy quickly followed with me in her arms I giggled as I got bounced around in her arms.
