*Ring*
Saved by the bell. Finally this tortures day was over. I slung my bag over my shoulder, sending Aunt Bridget a quick text, letting her now that there was no need for her to come and pick me up. I was in the mood for a walk. I quickly exited the school and made my way down the sidewalk. I took in a deep breath, letting my eyes flutter shut as the cool air filled my lungs. I could instantly feel the tension being lifted my shoulders. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard a ear piercing scream come from the alley next to me. I quickly ran in, seeing that two scruffy looking guys and a small petite girl. One of the guys pressed the girl against the wall while the other one search through her bag. "Hey!" Both of the guys looked up at me. The one with the purse gave me a crooked smile, almost making me gag. It looked like the sun was shining through his teeth. No joke, that's how yellow they were. "Why don't you run along pretty girl. This is none of your business."
He snarled at me and I clenched my teeth. "Let her go." My voice came out like a low dangerous growl. I could see the guys were surprised by my act of bravery, but then they grinned disgustingly at me, flipping open swift-army knives that they had hidden in their pockets. Obviously they thought they had the upper hand. They couldn't be more wrong. The one with the purse quickly dropped it and stormed towards me, the knife held high. He swung, but I quickly dodged it. I kicked him in the back of his knees with force and he tumbled towards the ground. He tried to reach for his knife, which had fallen from his grasp, but I stepped on his arm, applying a lot of force until a snapping sound could be heard. He howled out in pain, clutching at his now broken arm. I heard movement from behind and from the corner of my eye I could see the other guy trying to sneak up on me. Dumb move buddy. I spun around just as he was about to swing the knife. I grabbed his arm and the back of his head before pressing him against the wall. I leaned forward, my mouth against his ear.
"If I ever find you two again, doing this kind of crime again, I will not go easy on you." I snarled and something in my voice suddenly made him realise that I wasn't lying. I pushed him towards the ground and he scurried off, dragging his buddy further into the alley. I was suddenly engulfed in a hug from behind. My body tensed up and I froze in place. "Thank you so much for saving me." the whisper was quiet. I turned around and smiled down at the girl as she smiled gratefully at me. I picked up her bag, handing it over. "You're welcome. And next time, try to stay away from the dark alleys." she giggled and nodded. "I will!" She waved at me as she ran out of the alley, a bright smile on her face. A small smile appeared on my lips as I felt a small flutter of happiness appear in my heart. Maybe Aunt Bridget was right. Maybe I could get through this. I walked out of the alley, the smile still on my lips.
I suddenly walked into someone. Muscular arms wrapped around me, keeping me upright. "Oh I'm so sorry! I didn't see you..." I stopped mid-sentence when I saw whose arms were around me. "Seriously?! Why the hell do you have to appear everywhere?!" Max grinned down at me, his eyes twinkling mischievously. I pushed him away, taking a big step back, folding my arms over my chest. I glared at him, not liking the vibe that was rolling off of him in waves. "I saw what you just did." I lifted my brow, trying to act unfazed, but a slight touch of fear made it's way into my mind. Why did he look like he just realised something? "So?" He gently took me by my shoulders and pressed me against the wall. He placed both his hands on either side of my head, blocking my escape. I was captivated by the green crystals that seemed to stare deep into my eyes. My breathing quickened as he leaned forward. I could feel his warm breath fan against my cheeks. He leaned closer towards my ear and his whisper sent shivers down my spine. "Those moves almost seemed inhuman..."
My eyes grew large as I suddenly realised what he was implying. It probably did seem inhuman because it was. "That doesn't mean anything." I tried to sound confident, but even I could hear the fear that laced my words. He smirked at me victoriously. The evil glint that appeared in my eyes only intensified my fear. I wonder what would happen if I suddenly screamed for help. To the people passing by we probably looked like your typical teenage couple. If only they would see past that. If only they would see the fear filling my eyes. "I know what you are Sophia. We all do." My breath hitched in my throat. There is no way he could know. I shook my head slowly. "Impossible. I don't believe you." Max chuckled before holding his hands up in defence. "That's not my problem. Believe it or not, it's your choice." With those final words, he turned around and sauntered away, whistling a cheerful tune. I stared at him with frightened eyes. Tears started to fill my eyes as I shook my head furiously. I ran home with lightning speed, an agitated feeling following me. Could he really know? And if he does know, how did he find out?
