Chapter 1

I sat there quietly in a corner booth. I stared out the window, staring at the people that walked by. As I watched the couples and families pass, I felt a pang of sadness in my chest. It's been 2 weeks since the incident. I didn't mean for it to happen, but it did and I couldn't control myself and now my parents had paid the price for my recklessness. Tears sprung to my eyes as I thought of my parents drained bodies lying there lifeless on the carpeted floor. I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat and clenched my hand under the table. Pity and guilt wouldn't bring them back. Nothing would. I repeated those words in my head, my hard exterior that I've learned to use appearing again. I looked away from the window, staring down at the utensils in front of me. My reflection stared back at me, mesmerizing me with the drastic change my appearance have gone though since the change. My long dark hair fell into beautiful curls over my shoulder, a shine appearing every time the light hit it. My pale porcelain-like skin seemed clear and smooth, no spots, no acne. The dark sunglasses that covered half of my face hid my eyes well, which was a good thing, cause my eyes were the one thing that gave away my vampire identity. The red glow they gave were definitely a red flag (no pun intended). The waiter suddenly appeared next to me and started rambling off about some guy she recently hooked up with. I looked up at her as if she had grown two heads. Isn't she suppose to take your order then leave? I started to get annoyed with her and just as I was about to speak, a wonderful scent hit my nostrils. I knew that scent all too well. I quickly held my hand up, my fingers twitching slightly. "Excuse me, but can you just take my order? I didn't come here to have a chat about your one-night stands." She scoffed and glared at me, but non or less took my order. As she turned on her heel, she scoffed again. "Rude." I rolled my eyes, relieved that the delicious scent left with her. I felt extremely uncomfortable around humans, especially after my parents, so I tried my best to avoid any contact with them. I jumped slightly as I felt a sudden vibration in my pocket. I sighed in relief once I noticed it was only my phone. I took it out and looked at the Caller ID. Aunt Bridget stood in large letter across my screen. I haven't heard from her in a few years. I smiled softly as I answered the phone. "Hey Aunt Bridget." "Hi pumpkin! How have you been? I heard the news about what happened..." My body tensed up. I knew what was coming. "No it's fine, don't worry about it." I heard Aunt Bridget sigh on the other end of the line. "Sweetie, you don't have to act strong. It's just me." An unwanted tear unwillingly rolled down my cheek. I quickly wiped it away before anyone noticed. "Yeah..." There was a short silence before Aunt Bridget's loud and excited voice came over the phone. "So because of what happened, you have been left without a guardian to look after you..." I frowned at her words. What was she getting at? "Yes?" I heard her giggle before she squealed. "I'm coming to look after you! I'm gonna be your guardian!" My eyes grew wide as her words registered to me. "Oh, that won't be necessary, cause you see..." Aunt Bridget's voice cut in. "Please pumpkin. Let me do this. I know I haven't been such a great aunt, so let me make it up to you? Please do it for me?" I pierced my lips, my mind telling me to say no, yelling at me that there's going to be consequences, but that soft spot I've always had in my heart for family warmed at the thought of Aunt Bridget coming to live with me. Before I knew it, I sighed heavily into the phone. "Fine." the words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it. "Great! I'll see you in three days time! Don't break any laws and be safe until I show up! Love you." She hung up before I even had the chance to change my mind. I cursed under my breath as I punched my leg. I knew this is a bad idea, so why did I agree? Because you're tired of being alone. I quickly dismissed the thought. I had to figure out a way to keep Aunt Bridget away from me, before I ended up regretting it. The waiter came up to me and placed my order on the table. I quickly grabbed it and threw the cash on the table before storming out. What would happen if she really found out what happened? Would she tell on me? What would happen if I can't control my hunger? Would she suffer the same fate as my parents? I scowled, my pace quickening and my fists clenching. I suddenly felt a warm liquid drip down my fingers and as I looked down at my hands, I realised that I had crushed the coffee cup that was in my hands. I scoffed and threw the bin away, shaking off the excess coffee that was still on my hand. I clenched my teeth as I wiped my hand on my jeans. Just as I stood up straight again, a hand grabbed my upper arm from behind. A strange sense of deja vu washed over me as I spun around, this time ready to attack. I looked down, seeing a small and petite Asian looking lady staring up at me with a worried expression on her face. I looked at her before staring at her hand that was still clutching my arm. The lady quickly dropped her hand, looking embarrassed at her bluntness. "I am so sorry to bother you Miss, but there seems to be someone following you. I just thought I might warn you." I looked up, squinting behind my sunglasses. My eyes scanned over the people and landed on a specific guy. To a human's eye, it would look like nothing out of the ordinary, but with my super senses I could see him staring at me through his dark sunglasses. He was tall and muscular built. She mostly wore black, which was kind of strange for any person, especially in this kind of hot weather. His chiselled jaw seemed clenched as his whole body language was tense. He suddenly caught me gaze and for a second we just stared at each other. His scent suddenly came my way and out of everyone around me, his scent seemed to draw me in. It smelled a lot like cinnamon and after-shave. I snapped out of my daze when he suddenly spun around and stormed off. I frowned slightly, but then shook my head, giving the lady a small smile and a thanks. The whole way home, I couldn't stop thinking about my mystery stalker. When I finally arrived at home, I was exhausted. I must have fallen asleep some time cause I suddenly jolted awake, clutching at the covers beneath me. My breathing was heavy and sweat covered my forehead. I took in a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. Another nightmare. I quickly shook my head and walked towards my closet. I opened it and stared intently at the mini fridge that was hidden behind some clothes. I opened it up and took out a blood bag, pouring it into a large mug before heating it up. I thought about the nightmare I just had. It was about my parents, but this time not just about them, this time Aunt Bridget lay lifeless with them. I shook my head, grabbing the warm mug from the microwave before strolling towards my bedroom window. I opened it up and leaned against the window sill. As I took a sip from the cup, I closed my eyes in satisfaction. The only solution I had to the whole Aunt-Bridget-coming-to-live-with-me story is that I'd have to raid another blood bank, this time I'd only need to take a little more than last time. I stared sown at the empty street, captivated by the quietness. Well that was until something moved in the shadows. I squinted my eyes, but even with my super senses, I still couldn't see what there is. Maybe it's just an alley cat. I tried to reassure myself, but I couldn't help but shake off the feeling that I was being watched. I shook my head, ignoring my gut feeling and closed the window. I drank up every last drop of my midnight snack before snuggling back into my covers. It didn't take long after for me to drift off back to sleep, this time my dreams consisting only of my mystery stalker.
