Max's POV:
My tears fell onto her cheek, rolling off onto the ground. Her eyes were shut and I felt her body go still. "No Soph... Please." I sobbed and pulled her up, hugging her tight as I buried my face in the crook of her neck. I felt a pain in my chest as my heart broke into a million of pieces. "Great! Just great. There goes our only chance of ever finding a cure." Markus placed his hand on my shoulder, motioning with his head towards the door. "Come on, brother. We're leaving." Anger suddenly seemed to consume me and for a moment, all I could see was red. I jumped up and punched Markus square in the jaw with all my might. He fell to the floor from the force and held onto his jaw in shock. "This is all you're fault! She died because of you! An innocent soul died because of you. You are nothing to me." I snarled down at him, my fists clenched at my sides as I breathed heavily. Markus looked at me with disgust. "Innocent? Max, she was a vampire. No vampire is innocent." Max growled at me. "You would've seen that she wasn't any vampire if you had just stopped being selfish for once in your life. You would've seen that she was the nicest person this cruel world has ever had." Markus scoffed before rising up and turning on his heel, walking off. "Whatever. You only held us back anyway." When they were out of sight, I turned back towards Sophia, lying there, lifeless on the ground. I pulled at my hair in frustration. This can't be the end. I looked up at the roof, tears slowly forming in my eyes again. Please don't let this be the end. I glanced down at her body. The glint of the knife caught my attention. Suddenly a plan formed in my head. I pulled the knife from her chest, placing it onto my palm. "Please work." I pulled the knife back, cutting my hand open. I winced in pain, biting back a scream. I placed my hand over her mouth, opening my palm so that the blood dripped freely into her mouth. I sat there in silence, praying that it would work and that I didn't just cut my hand open for no reason. I stared at her wound, hoping for it to heal. Then it happened. Slowly, but surely, her wound was starting to heal. Tears were forming in my eyes again as I smiled to myself. Maybe I didn't have to lose her after all.
Sophia's POV:
My eyes fluttered open and I stared up into the most beautiful forest green eyes. "Am I in heaven?" My voice was hoarse and my throat was sore. "No, but I am." I saw a tear roll down his face as he pulled me towards him, hugging me for dear life. "Max, what happened? I thought that would've killed me. How am I still alive?" Max pulled away, a guilty smile forming on his lips. "Well you were dead, but I couldn't exactly let you leave me after telling me you loved me so..." He held his hand up, showing me a deep cut in his palm. "Oh Max..." I took his hand in mine, smiling fondly at him. He saved me. He truly did love me. And I definitely loved him. I brought his palm towards my face, before flicking my tongue out, dragging it over the cut. Max winced slightly, before shivering at his touch. I smiled at him seductively, flicking my tongue out one last time, cleaning his hand from any trace of blood. I tried really hard to keep myself from moaning with pleasure. His blood tasted like pure heaven. I quickly pushed his hand away and bit my bottom lip nervously. He stared down at his palm in shock. "How?" I laughed at his dumbfounded face. "Well, you see, I picked up a few things in my short while of being a creature of the night." He looked up at me, still in shock. "So this basically shows me that your saliva has some sort of ability to heal wounds..." I nodded shyly, tugging a strand of hair behind my ear. He stared at me with love in his eyes. "You truly are amazing." he suddenly pulled me towards him, smashing his lips on mine. I immediately kissed him back with the same amount of passion. "Let's get you home." Max whispered when we pulled away for air.
When we walked into the apartment, I saw Aunt Bridget sitting on the couch, crying into her hands. She looked up at us with bloodshot eyes, but once she realised who it was, her face became a beacon of joy. "Oh my sweetheart!" She pulled me into a tight hug, kissing my cheek continuously. "Can't breath..." she quickly let go, an embarrassed smile on her face. She looked at me with sadness in her eyes. "Don't ever do that to me again." I gave her an apologetic smile, biting my bottom lip. "Sorry..." she smiled at me before turning towards Max. She pulled him into a hug, which caught him by surprise. He stared at her with wide eyes, before a small smile snuck its way onto his face and he hugged her back. "Thank you for being there for her." He looked at me and I just shook my head, letting him know that she didn't know he was the reason I ran away. He gave me a small smile. "You're welcome Mrs." Aunt Bridget slapped his shoulder playfully. "Oh please. Call me Bridget." I pointed at her, glaring at her playfully as I pulled Max towards me. "Hey! No flirting. He's mine." Max smiled down at me, kissing my forehead. "Always." Aunt Bridget looked at us lovingly. "Oh, you guys are so cute." I felt a blush creep onto my face and they both laughed at me. "Um, well anyway, change of subject. Aunt Bridget... I have something to ask you..." I looked from her to Max then back at her. She quickly caught on before chuckling. "Of course he can stay. Just keep everything in your pants, you hear me young man?" She pointed a finger threateningly at him and he held his hands up in surrender. A slight fear flickered across his features as a blush crept onto his cheeks. "I promise!" We all burst out laughing. I stared at the two most important people in my life (apart from Riley) and realised just how lucky I truly was. Max seemed to notice me staring and pulled me towards him. He stared deeply into my eyes with his beautiful green crystals. He gently kissed my lips with a lingering kiss and in that moment, I knew that whatever the future had in store, I could brave it all with him by my side. Let's just hope he stays that long...
