Questions

I followed the Aaron down many halls of the building. All you heard was the click of our shoes on the tile floor and the whispers of werewolves that we passed. The walls were gray with no paintings or pictures on the walls and the tiles were a darker shade of gray. It looked beautiful and elegant. Not the place that I imagined a werewolves hide out to be. Which also made me think, where exactly am I? As if to read my mind, Aaron decided to speak first. "Alpha Jayce will answer all of your questions. I am under strict orders to not answer any questions until he talks to you first." He then turned his head to talk to me while walking. "But I didn't get any orders to NOT ask YOU anything. Care to answer a harmless question for me?" He smirked a bit and raised his eyebrows. His smile made me want to smile back. Someone knew how to get around orders without breaking them. Reminds me of a certain someone back in the room.  I raised my chin and nodded while looking him straight in the eyes. Aaron smiled and slowed his walk a bit without stopping and turned his body around while walking backwards. "Well," he cleared his throat and looked sheepish, " what I wanted to ask was who the girl was back in the interrogation room? Is she your second in command or your sister?" I stopped in my tracks and tilted my head to the side. Seems like a harmless question and I bet Jayce would ask me something like that so might as well get it out of the way. "Her name is Jenna. You were correct to guess that she is my Second in command and no, she is not my sister. She has been my best friend since we were children, and we did grow up like sisters." Aaron seemed to like my answer and smiled. "Thank you for answering." Just as he was getting ready to turn around his eyes turned completely black for about 3 seconds then went back to his normal green eye color. He blinked as if to correct his vision and looked at me. "That was Jayce, I told him we were almost to the conference room." He turned on his heel and picked up the pace a bit. I had to quicken my pace a bit to keep up.  We must have walked for another 2 minutes then we arrived at a double doored room. Aaron grabbed one of the doors and opened it for me. "After you... I didn't get your name. I'm sorry." He looked embarrassed and I nodded to him to let him know it was okay. The room was massive. At least enough space to hold 30 plus people, The walls were red, and the chairs were black, but the lighting made the room seem like it radiated with power. The floor was a matte black wooden flooring. I loved it. Then the smell hit me, it smelled like a warm powerful cologne. The kind that engulfs your senses and makes you want to take in another whiff. It was the most amazing smell in the world. Then I met a pair of deep honey brown eyes. Those eyes. Jayce. My senses were going wild. He just stood there looking back at me and smiled. I'm going to lose it if he keeps staring at me. This man who I have only seen twice in real life has me feeling like my stomach was being swarmed with butterflies. Not ten or a hundred, but millions.   I was finding it hard to swallow or move. And neither of us did for what felt like forever. I guess someone thought it was awkward because he cleared his throat and clasped his hands together then rocked on his heels. "Uh, would you like a water Ma'am? Alpha?" He pointed to both of us with his lips perked out and walked to the mini fridge in the corner. I blinked really quick and looked down because my face felt like it was on fire. "Thank you, Aaron." Jayce sounded embarrassed as well and sat down. He used his hand to gesture me to find a chair so we could sit down. I picked the chair that was 3 seats away from him. Aaron put a bottle of water down in front of me and then Jayce. He sat 3 chairs away from me. Since the table was circular and only held 9 chairs, we made a perfect little triangle. "Thank you, Aaron, for the water." I cracked the top off the bottle and nodded. He nodded back and smiled. I looked to Jayce who was staring at me, and I decided to break the silence. "Alpha Jayce, you summoned me?" I kept my voice as steady as possible while trying to feel brave. My inner warrior was hiding, and I couldn't find it in me to bring her out. Hopefully after this meeting I can find her again.  Jayce smiled again and nodded. "Thank you for meeting me in such short notice. I am sure you have many questions and I have some as well. But I do want to thank you for following through on not attacking any of my subjects. I appreciate that. Can we please start off with your name?" He leaned forward a bit as if to show me that I had his full attention. "My name is Maxine Knight. I am the Princess of Raine." Jayce's eyes widened in both concern and curiosity. Aaron's head quickly snapped to Jayce's to gauge his reaction and glanced back at me with a look of disbelief. I am guessing he thought I was a random Hunter. "And may I ask what your intentions were at the warehouse?" He spoke slowly. As if he knew the answer but had to confirm it to move forward. I quickly glanced down at my hands in shame and guilt. I hated that I had to answer but then it reminded me of why I was here in the first place. I glanced at him for a quick second because I knew what could happen after I spoke. I closed my eyes and whispered, "I went there to kill you. You were my only target."  Silence filled the room and I heard one of the chairs move with a loud thud. I waited for death to come. I waited for Jayce to attack. I waited for Aaron to rip me apart. But it never came. I realized that I was holding my breath and I slowly let it out and opened my eyes. Both of their eyes were black. Aaron looked like he was halfway standing up and his knuckles were white from them being in a closed fist. Jayce was also halfway standing up. They seemed frozen in time. A few more seconds had passed, and both of their eyes went back to their normal colors. Aaron no longer looked friendly, but it was understandable. I had almost been successful in killing his Alpha. Jayce cleared his throat, "I apologize for my Beta. We have a truce at the moment, and he needed to be reminded of that. Under normal circumstances, this would have led to a trail for attempted murder of an Alpha, but this isn't a normal situation. Far from it actually." Both of them sat down in their chairs. Jayce took a drink of water and Aaron now had his elbow on the table and had his chin sitting on his fist. He was staring at his bottle and seemed in a daze. "Princess Maxine, two more questions if you don't mind then you can ask me some if you would like." I nodded and looked back down at the table. "Why didn't you accomplish your mission? Your reputation proceeds you, even here in the Blackwater Pack. I know you are more than capable of your mission." My blood went cold. I slowly looked up at Jayce. His face told me he knew but wanted to hear it from me. Why? Why is he making me answer if he already knew? This is extremely personal, and I had to answer in front of Aaron. I started to bite my lip from embarrassment and kept my eyes down. "I honestly don't know. I couldn't. My body acted on its own and it felt as if ..." and then I stopped. I was about to tell him exactly how I was feeling but I couldn't. I was the enemy. I can't tell this stranger that I have these imaginary feelings from him from looking at his picture. Then my face started to flush when I thought of the other things that I have done because of that photo. "Last question, then you can ask me what you would like." I couldn't face him. I kept my eyes everywhere but him. He continued to study me, but I thought I saw a small smirk from the corner of my eye. His tone never sounded frustrated or angry. He was calm and collected. He leaned backwards on the chair, and this seemed to put Aaron at ease a bit. Aaron's attitude shifted a bit and he seemed to settle down. As if his audacious behavior was unnatural for him and he had to remind himself of this and compose himself once again. He did a slight smile in my direction and nodded as if he was silently telling me he was sorry, and everything was fine.  He twisted slightly from side to side in his office chair as if he was unsure of how to ask the next question. He abruptly stopped and looked at the table before looking at me. "Last question, I promise." He repeated. "Although, I am unsure if I can get an answer from you as it seems that you may not know it yourself." Jayce leaned forward and paused to gawk at me. He furrowed his eyebrows at me as if trying to read my mind while he asked, "What are you?" The question took me off guard as it did Aaron. He couldn't quite conceal his expressions and I found that amusing as he looked back and forth between us both. I honestly didn't know whether I should laugh or be aghast. "I don't know exactly what you are asking?" I looked at Jayce and tried reading his expressions. They were stoic and I couldn't figure out if he was making fun of me or not. He smiled and shook his head. "I figured you may not know because I am unsure myself." He took a drink of water and cleared his throat. "As promised Princess Maxine, you may now ask me questions."  His previous question left me stunned. It caught me completely off guard. I would have to ask him later to find out exactly what he meant. I also took a drink of water and used the time to think of a question. "Where am we and what do you plan to do with my team?" I felt my heart drumming hard inside my chest. "You are in the Blackwater Pack headquarters. I cannot give you the exact coordinates of where you are, for obvious reasons. But I do not plan on harming your team. However, what you plan to do with your team after this meeting is completely up to you." I began to feel frustrated. That literally answered nothing but the obvious. However, something didn't make sense. "What do you mean that it's up to me?" I asked. Aaron was trying to hold back a smile, but I kept my eyes on Jayce. "What I mean, Princess Maxine, is that you will choose if you want them to stay with you here or leave." Then it hit me. I'm not leaving this place, but I can give that option to my team. I can keep my promise! They can go home! No one has to die! But then I started to feel somber with the realization that I will never see my family or home ever again. My heart started to sink but I held my chin up high. This is EXACTLY what I wanted. This is EXACTLY what I promised them. It's not the option I wanted but it was one that I was given, and I had to accept it. The kingdom of Raine would no longer have a Warrior Princess anymore. "Okay, I can agree to that. But I do have one more question for you, for now." My voice was a bit shaky from the previous answer. Jayce waved a hand in front of me as a gesture to speak. "Why do you want me to stay and are you planning to keep me hostage?" The room fell silent. Aaron was still holding back a smile and was trying to cover it with his fist. Jayce looked sheepish and he took a long gulp of water before meeting my gaze. "Well, I do want to point out that you are not a hostage. I wouldn't do that to you. And also," he scratched the back of his neck like he was nervous," you... are my... mate."
