This time the meeting wasn’t held in secret in an empty bedroom in Pops and Evangeline’s house. This time everyone had a seat in Perez’s office. Alex debriefed them on his actions. Normally he’d throw in a few punch lines and play up the twists with humor, but his heart wasn’t in it.
He wrapped up his speech with the rescue by Maverick, excluding the part where he cleaned up Knox’s mess.
“Jude Douglas is safely at IAS,” Perez said, “and his mom and grandparents are renting a room in the dome. Everyone is safe.”
“Has Douglas called them?” Knox asked.
“No,” Perez said, “but he has sent messages through a woman named Evie Nakamura. She used to work for him, I believe.”
“Smart,” Knox said. “So what’s our next move?”
