Serenye's POV
“Do you want to join the cheerleading team, Renye?“ Lyanna asked as we walked through the college grounds together after our first lecture.
My brows knitted as I fell into deep thoughts. Will my mission and studies even leave time for me to engage in other things? But then, Lyanna likes it when I do her bidding and I think it was one of the reasons she made me her best friend. Sometimes, I used to think she liked me because I was easier to control.
I managed a small smile at her. “Sure. I will join.“
A wide grin curled her lips. “I am the new cheerleader. The former one was a senior who graduated last month.“
“Oh… many congratulations, Lyanna.“
We walked towards the hall and, as usual, eyes were on me. The guys' gaze was lustful and lingering on my breasts that were struggling to spill out through the plunging neckline of the blue body con dress. While the ladies' gaze was cold, condescending and disgust-filled—they were obviously jealous of the attention I was gathering from the men.
But I'm used to it. An agent of darkness like myself has been trained never to cower. Instead, I became more confident and basked in the attention, swaying my ass purposely.
Let them stare. Let them see me being shameless. Especially with the fact that I'm holding onto a glimpse of hope that the Alpha might be on one of the top floors staring at me right now.
I have not met anyone else since yesterday, when I was at the mansion and that left me restless all through the night. I just want to meet the f*****g Alpha and get on my mission as soon as possible.
Inside the locker room, Lyanna introduced me to some of the team members. “This is Renye. My best friend.“
I didn't miss the way they rolled their eyes before waving reluctantly. “Hi, Renye.“
Lyanna started introducing them to me, but I couldn't get their names. Okay… I'm smart when it comes to studying, memorizing weapons and poisons, but when it comes to names and faces, I'm the dumbest.
Lyanna taught me a few steps and songs. I wasn't particularly interested, but I tried to grab some of the steps.
Then she handed me a super tight uniform—a skimpy blue skirt that left my thighs exposed and a white shirt that the button keeps coming off because it wouldn't fit.
“I think this is too tight, Lya,” I muttered, staring down at my chest.
“No… it's perfect.“ Lya winked at me. “I bet the guys won't be able to take their eyes off you.“ Then she leaned closer and whispered, her breath warm against mine. “Maybe you'd get a boyfriend and lose your V-card.“
I swallowed past the lump in my throat, heat creeped up my cheeks.
V-card? She really thinks I was still a virgin? I lost my virginity to the Rogue king's son and adopted brother—Ronan Voss—on my eighteenth birthday and since then we have been s*x mates—pleasuring eachother with no strings attached.
“Well.. Well,” a voice sneered and a strikingly beautiful lady with blonde hair sauntered in front of me. “You look like you just crawled out of someone's bed, Omega.“
Omega?
If only she knew what I truly was, I bet she'd swallowed back her words and trembled to her knees.
I parted my lips to respond to her, but before I could, Lya beat me to it. “Shut up, Aria and mind your damn business,” Lyanna growled.
Aria eyed me down, before she turned away and stormed out of the room.
“The match is about to start,” Lyanna announced. Then she stretched her hand out and every one of us placed ours on it. “Victory to the Crescent Wolves,” she echoed.
“Victory is ours,” we chorused.
We threw our hands up, grabbed our pom-poms and matched out of the room towards the rink where the match was to take place.
The arena buzzed with energy, packed from the nosebleeds to the glass. Cold air nipped at my exposed skin, and the sharp scent of ice, sweat, and popcorn hung in the air. We moved to the stage, waving our pom-pom and the students cheered us on.
The Crescent Wolves were fully tied in a blue and white jersey with a helmet, socks, gloves and held their hockey sticks. While the competitors from another prestigious college—the Moonfang Wolves, were dressed in red and white jersey.
Six versus six members stood at either side of the rink, facing each other with determined and rigid stances on the hockey skates.
The coach blew the whistle and the guys started gliding expertly on the ice with their hockey sticks, aiming for the puck.
A guy in the Crescent Wolves team skates so well, controlling the puck expertly like he was born for it. The Moonfang Wolves trailed behind him and tried to take the puck from him, but they couldn't. The guy played right into the goal net.
“Goal,” the Northern Crescent students echoed, jumped to their feet and clenched their fists in victory. While the Moonfang students hissed in frustration.
The cheerleading team sang a victorious song while waving the pom-poms and swirling energetically to the rhythm.
I couldn't help the smile that spread across my face. Wow. Just wow…. This game is so interesting. Thanks to the Moon that I joined in. I might as well try to have fun while I'm on my mission.
“That's my baby,” Aria said, her voice brimming with pride. “No one could have done it better other than the captain.“
Her baby?
He must be her mate.
Now.. I get why he is so good; it was because he was the captain.
The game stretched for hours. There were a few penalties, arguements between the two teams and injuries but then it ended with the Crescent Wolves winning the match. They scored eight goals while the Moonfang Wolves had five.
“Victory!“
We celebrated, while the Moonfang Wolves stormed away—angry at their loss.
All of a sudden, the wind grew stronger, whipping my red hair across my face. My wolf growled violently inside me and my mouth hung open in sheer disbelief. No… no… my wolf is supposed to be silent, and weak. It has been suppressed the very day I got it because I wanted to hide my identity.
Yeah… no one can know that I'm the last survivor of my kind. No one can know that I'm Princess Seraphina of the Umbra Claw Pack.
But why?
Why is it suddenly alive now?
My body trembled. My claws seemed like they were sharpening. My fangs are forcing it's way out of my mouth. It felt like I was going to shift.
No.. I can't shift here. If I did, then the mission would be over before it even started. Summoning all the strength inside me, I clenched my fists tightly and pressed my lips together to suppress myself.
I glanced around me—there were still festivities in the air, but a pair of cold green eyes were fixed on me. No.. it was piercing into my soul. It felt so familiar.
My eyes drifted lower and rested on the number on his jersey—a bold SEVEN.
That was…… the captain. Aria's boyfriend.
Then he started approaching me. Tall. Broad-shouldered. Jaw sculpted to perfection.
'Mate. Mate.'
My chest slammed when my wolf echoed. No.. no.. I shouldn't find my mate. I can't f*****g have a mate. It would ruin everything.
Panicked, I cast a wary glance around—hoping that the ground would just open up and swallow me before he either reached me or I shifted into my wolf form because the connection between us is now undeniable.
I tried to lift my feet to run.. But I couldn't. My wolf kept me rooted to the spot.
'Nyx,' I called my wolf. 'Please don't do this,' I begged desperately.
'No, my Princess,' she answered back. 'As from now on, I won't stay hidden anymore. Let's accept our mate bond.'
Before I could retort back, I felt Lya's arms around my shoulders. “Hey, Renye,” she whispered. “It seems my brother is captivated by you.“
The words roared in my ears—louder than a war drum. I glanced up at her, and she was staring at the captain that was just a few steps away from us.
My lips trembled.
As I choked out, “Who is your brother?“
“Him.“ She gestured towards the captain. “The Prince, heir of the Northern Crescent Pack. Captain of the Crescent Wolves. Caius Wolfe.“
