Chapter Nine

1034 Words
Drew Walking into the elevator to go to Sebastian’s office, Drew groaned. She had managed to stay off the man’s radar for several days. Before she bumped into him, she had never even noticed him around the hospital. At this point in her life she really could not be distracted by such a man. It just spelled trouble for her; he may be top in his field, but she was just barely bottom of anything right now. Drew stepped off the elevator with her small cleaning cart so she could just get to the office and get this over with as quickly as possible. The less time she spent around Sebastian the better for her own mental health. She didn’t have time for distractions in her life right now. She knocked lightly on his office door and waited. “Come in, Drew.” Sebastian called out to her from his office. She opened his door and pushed her cart in. Normally she would leave it outside the office but she just wanted to be done with this. She started looking around for the spill when she walked in and about jumped when she heard the door behind her click closed. The only reason he startled her was because she was trying her best to ignore him and just take care of the spill. So much for that idea. “Drew,” he said, trying to get her attention. Drew continued to ignore him, getting more annoyed by the second. She had a suspicion that there was no coffee spilled. She felt Sebastian tap on her shoulder. She finally turned to face him, “Where is the coffee spill? I am pretty busy, I just want to get it taken care of and go about my day.” Sebastian stood there looking at her with some annoyance, “I’ve been trying to call you, figured this was the only way to get your attention.” She acted surprised, “You were trying to call me?” knowing full well she ignored every call and every text he had sent her. She had planned to change her number this afternoon after she got off work. Sebastian did not look like he believed her one bit, he seemed to pick his words carefully, “I have only been trying to get a hold of you because I have a proposition for you.” What on earth could he possibly be thinking of asking her. She sat down in the chair opposite of his office chair, “Okay, so what do you want?” Drew watched him cross the room and sit behind his desk, his face flashed a bit of annoyance but he kept himself pretty neutral otherwise. She watched as Sebastian grabbed some papers and set them in front of her on the desk. “If you would like to continue your medical degree and start an internship at this hospital the option is there. I did some asking around and all you would have to do is complete your boards and then you can start your internship here.” He said, “that is if you want to continue on your way to be a surgeon, unless you are happy being just a janitor.” Drew picked up the papers. Honestly she was taken aback. They would really allow her to continue on despite it being several years. She looked at them for a moment, just glancing at the words. They were forms and applications for the boards. She really didn’t know how to answer, it wasn’t like there would be anything holding her back anymore. Drew also hoped that Sebastian wasn’t trying to use this to get in with her good graces either but she would be a complete i***t if she were to refuse this opportunity just because of him. Drew finally spoke with a dry laugh, “You’re joking right?” Sebastian kept his serious face, “Why would I joke about this? This is your future. Why would I have any reason to bullshit you?” Drew bit her lip; a bad habit but she was unsure. “So this is not a joke?” She replied lamely looking at the papers in her hand. “So what is your answer?” Sebastian insisted. Drew felt a little hope growing in her, “Okay, I’ll do it.” “You’ll do it? Sounds like you don’t have much choice.” Sebastian laughed then. “Well I mean, do I really have a choice? I would be an i***t if I turned down such an opportunity.” Drew answered, “It’s not like there is anything keeping me from finally completing my degree and becoming a doctor like I wanted to in the first place.” Sebastian smiled, “Okay well let me help you fill this paperwork out, I already sent your resignation letter downstairs.” He finished taking the papers from her and setting them on the desk. Drew laughed, “You really did get ahead of yourself there, what if I had refused the opportunity?” Sebastian grinned boyishly, “I know you are smart and would have made the best decision for yourself otherwise anyways.” Drew grinned, somewhat infected by his boyish smile. This was another side of Sebastian she found hard to resist. They worked on her paperwork for the next couple of hours making sure all the t’s were crossed and the i’s dotted. Her official start to her internship would come on Monday, she would be expected to report for rounds with the other incoming intern class. Sebastian shuffled the paperwork and said, “well that is that, I will get this paperwork right over to the chief of medicine.” “Well, I will see you on Monday I guess. I am going to go enjoy my weekend.” She smiled and reached out a hand to shake Sebastian’s. He dodged her hand, and came around the desk and gave her a huge hug. “Why would I shake your hand, this is a huge occasion.” he said at her bewilderment. “Congrats Drew and enjoy your weekend. Rest up intern.”
