She woke the next morning and went outside for her run bright and early. She was surprised to find a package on the porch with balloons attached to it. She took it inside and checked it for an addressee. It simply had her name hand written on it. She set it on the table and opened it. Inside, there was a beautiful dress. Deep blue, glittery and long. She pulled it out and held it up to herself. Spaghetti straps with a sweetheart neckline, it was floor length with a high slit off center on the front. The back laced up with rich, black ribbon. An envelope fluttered to the floor when she pulled it out, so she picked it up and opened it.
“I hope you like it. Wear it Saturday, I'm picking you up at 6pm, Trent.”
She felt almost giddy. She was so excited. She quickly dashed upstairs and hung the dress on the back of her bedroom door. She then went on her run.
A couple miles in she heard some girls calling her name. She turned and sighed. The high school mean girls who hadn't yet dropped their high school attitude.
“We heard you're trying to get in as the next Luna,” Violet jeered.
“Yeah, you want to date Trent just so you can use your body to get him hooked. You know as well as anyone else that Violet is his girl!” one of her friends added.
“I'm not trying anything. How about you mind your own business?” Astrid replied.
Violet walked up to her and got inches from her face. “Why don't you leave other women's men alone? Are you an aspiring homewrecker?”
“Not with that face!” the girls laughed. “Look how tiny she is, she can't be a Luna! Learn your place, Mutt!”
“Yeah, learn your place. Your place is far away from my man!” Violet spat.
Astrid wiped her face and stepped back. “If he's your man, then why is he taking me out? When was the last time he even took you out?”
“Just last week and then I spent the rest of the night hearing him moan my name!”
Astrid didn't believe Violet. There was no way Trent was dating her, not anymore.”
“Look, he broke things off with you when he and I found out we're mates. It wasn't something we expected, but it is what it is. Now, if you'll excuse me,” Astrid turned to leave.
“You b***h!” Violet screamed. She lunged at Astrid and knocked her to the ground. She began punching her.
Astrid was shocked at first, but her training kicked in and she flipped Violet off of her. Violet's friends just stood by, shocked.
“You attacked me!” Violet screamed. “Did you see that? She attacked me!” The other girls just nodded.
“I did not! You came at me!”
“You're just jealous that Trent likes me more. That he's only forced to be with you! I'm going to the Alpha!” Violet turned and walked away, going toward the pack house.
Astrid sighed and pulled out her phone. She called her dad. “Hey, yeah so... Violet just attacked me and she's heading to the pack house to say I attacked her. I'm going too.”
“What? Why are you fighting with Violet? You don't even talk to her,” her father answered.
“I wasn't. Listen, I was just out for a run and she confronted me about dating Trent. She's not happy about it. I told her we're mates and she got angry. I didn't touch her first.”
“I believe you. I'll head to the Alpha's office.”
Violet put her phone back in her pocket and headed toward the pack house. On second thought, she texted Trent about what happened.
In the Alpha's office, he looked tired and annoyed to be dealing with this.
“She just attacked me out of nowhere!” Violet whined. Her friends backed her up. “She's been following me too. Threatening me, telling me to stay away from Trent.”
The Alpha looked at Astrid. “If you and Trent give in to the mate bond then you know you can't act this way. You can't go after his exes, they're pack members that you have to care for.”
“Sir, I didn't do any of that. I haven't been following her and I didn't attack her.”
“Lies!” Violet screamed. “How can you let her mistreat me!”
Just then Astrid's father and Trent knocked before coming in.
“Astrid, you're bleeding,” her father said. He dug in his pocket for a handkerchief and handed it to her.
She dabbed at the places on her face that felt sore. She hadn't known she was bleeding.
“Oh please, she did that to herself,” Violet said and rolled her eyes. “Trent, baby, can't you see what kind of person she is?”
Trent looked uncomfortable. His eyes darted between the two girls.
Astrid expected him to take her side in some way, but it appeared he wasn't going to do that.
“Look,” the Alpha began. “Astrid has more wounds than you do. It appears you have none. She's one of our best trained women. I don't think an attack would result in no injuries.”
“I just don't bruise easy!”
“Enough!” the Alpha said, using his Alpha voice to command control. “The evidence is against you, Violet. However, I won't pass judgment on either of you. Not this time. You two are to stay away from each other whenever possible. Is that clear? If I hear of more trouble there will be consequences.”
Astrid bowed her head and agreed.
Violet folded her arms and rolled her eyes. “Fiiiine,” she said. “Let's go girls,” she ordered her friend group and they began to walk out. But not before she brushed her hand down Trent's chest and winked at him.
He blushed and looked to be struggling to not smile. Astrid was hurt and angry at him. Maybe Violet was right about still seeing him...
