In an attempt to make the transition smooth for the good people of Alpequa to see Chris spending more time with the Mortimers than with her, Kate prolongs her stay in Los Angeles. She talked about this at length with her parents and Lucas and they all agreed. People gossip, they speculate. With Kate slowly out of the picture, they will speculate less and just accept the possibility of Chris and Emma.
Maybe not now, but eventually. It’s clear for Kate’s parents now that Chris is not going to marry her. And since Kate has no problem with that, they too decide that they have no problem with that. The love between Lucas and Kate blossoms, especially since now the Conrads too are on board. Lucas now has both Kate’s parents’ blessings along with his own family.
