The royal council hall buzzed with faint chatters. Soldiers were scattered in every corner. Powerful beta and gammas were sitting in lines respectively. The alpha king, Kael sat on his throne like the king he was.
His eyes gleamed with menacing arrogance. A twitch of his lips as he listened to his people speak of his victory.
“Move fast!” muffled voices barked from outside the council hall.
The soldiers entered inside the hall, dragging poor villagers with them.
Kael’s pupils dilated in pride. Some villagers collapsed on their knees and joined their hands before the king.
Kael’s soldiers had conquered the human kingdom. And now, they all bowed to a single ruler.
Kael Kingsley. The evil in disguise.
But suddenly the air shifted. A strange scent filled Kael’s nostrils. The fragrance was intoxicated. A strange pull tugged at his chest. His icy grey eyes sharpened like blades as he snapped his eyes at the entrance where soldiers dragged in more villagers.
‘Mate!’ his wolf growled from within.
Kael’s jaw tightened at the sudden growl. The scent kept rising. His eyes swept through the terrified women’s faces.
“Lord! Lord, p-please spare us lord. Our houses were burned, my lord. Have mercy on us.” one villager begged.
“Kneel before king!” one soldier barked, shoving the other villagers to the floor with harsh force.
The scent intensifies into Kael’s senses.
‘Mate!’ his wolf howled fiercely this time.
Kael couldn’t hear anything else. His consciousness was consumed. His mate?
This.. can’t be!
‘Mate!’
‘Mate!’
‘Mate!’
Kael felt his nerves tightening. His razor sharp eyes darted across the hall, reacting to the desperate howl of his wolves within.
And then, his eyes darkened when it fell upon a girl among the villagers. Shadows hid her face beneath strands of hair and she was trembling so hard.
The sweet scent floated into the air, snapping into his blood cells.
‘MATE! MATE! MATE! MATE! MATE!’
His wolves inside him erupted in a violent war and clawed to get out. Kael’s fingers dug into the armrest of his throne. His grey eyes deepened as the chaos roared in his mind.
‘Claim her! Mate! Mate! Claim!’
He tried to silence them. One wolf fell quite, only for another to rise. Kael was always proud for having multiple wolves. He was rare among alphas. The most strongest and powerful one but he felt enraged because his wolves were not listening to him and kept thrashing to claw out.
Kael felt a desperate need to see her face, even though he hated it. He couldn’t have a mate! He could not!
His sharp deadly eyes stayed fixed on the girl. She looked fragile and so damn weak!
And then the girl slowly lifted her head. Her small face peeked through her hair, and–
‘Claim her! Claim! Hunt! Mate! Hunt!’
Kael gritted his teeth. This could not be happening.
A sudden realization hit him. The scent was filled with fear. It smelled of emotions.
“Get them all out!”
Kael ordered in a loud stern tone. Every person in the royal hall froze. Even the soldiers.
The soldiers obeyed without a further word. They yanked the villagers to their feet.
“Lord, please have mercy on us. Don’t kill us, my lord. We’re innocent.” a few begged. The women wept but Kael felt nothing.
He was heartless.
He had no heart!
“Walk!” they barked at the villagers.
When Kael’s wolves sensed the distance from their mate, they roared.
Kael’s forced his eyes away from the girl but-
‘No one touches her! Mine! Ours!’
Kael felt his veins bulging into his neck like roots when a soldier grabbed the frail girl’s arm and his blood spiked. His beasts reacted violently the moment his mate was pushed farther away.
But Kael refused to feel anything. He didn’t care! Or maybe he tried not to!

The stars were sparkling and the moon was shining brightly. Silence consumed the royal castle. All the birds were in their nest in deep sleep.
An owl was sitting on the castle’s pillar, watching the dark sky with its red eyes.
Inside the dark cell, the girl sat on the floor with her back pressed against the dirty wall.
Liana. Her face was buried between her knees. She couldn’t lift her eyes in fear because it was dark all around. And she was afraid of darkness.
It was like a jail.
She sobbed silently remembering the cruelty of the king. The way his soldiers burned the homes of poor people. They way they forcefully dragged everyone here and locked them in cages. Just like her.
She was even more terrified because she was completely alone in the cell. There was no sign of other people. Or her villagers.
She was so scared. Scared that they will kill her anytime. Or they might cage her here forever. She didn’t understand why the king had taken over their kingdom. Life has been peaceful. Then, everything shattered. Why?
Liana wanted to escape but there was no way out.
Ever since she entered this palace. She has been feeling so anxious. A consistent pull at her chest. As if something was calling her.
Something she didn’t understand. Something she felt she needed without knowing why.
Liana’s chains of thought broke when she heard the clicking sound of metal in the pin drop silence. Liana lifted her head slowly and saw a tall shadow outside the cell. She was sure it was a man.
In the darkness, she saw the man pulling something out of his pocket and a few clicking sounds of metal followed.
Key? Liana blinked at the thought.
The man shoved it inside the keyhole of her cell. He twisted it and with a clicking sound, the steel bars got unlocked.
Liana got scared. Tears started to flow down from her forest green eyes. She curled herself more into a small ball.
The man stepped inside and stopped in front of her trembling form. Liana raised her head and her breath faltered seeing the same soldier whom she stabbed with a knife when they were forcefully taking her.
“You dared to stab me, didn’t you? Brave little thing!” he clicked his tongue “Now I’ll make you pay in ways you can’t imagine.”
