|| Author POV || “You dared to stab me, didn’t you? Brave little thing!” he clicked his tongue “Now I’ll make you pay in ways you can’t imagine.” Liana lost her nerves at his words. The soldier smirked at his authority. He bent down at her level. Feeling his hot breath against her ear, Liana hugged herself even tighter and let out a sob. “Afraid of me, huh?” his smirk widened but Liana couldn't even process his voice. Her bones felt locked in fear. She jolted when his rough hand touched her delicate arm. His fingers dragged along her skin in a mocking stroke before he clamped down with an iron grip, forcing a whimper out of her. “Pl-please. Le-leave–” she barely uttered the words and suddenly her face sharply turned to the side at the impact of his harsh slap. The sting exploded through her cheek. “So brave of you to open your mouth! You filthy little slvt!” he spat in enraged disgust and grabbed a fistful of her hair in his palm, jerking her head up. It was so painful that Liana felt her scalp burning and her head was hurting horribly. She felt her vision started getting blurry due to the amount of tears she was shedding. “You dared to stab me Infront of everyone, you wh*re!” he snarled before shoving her on the floor harshly. Liana’s head got hit with the wall. Her green eyes widened when she saw him rolling up his sleeves as he stalked toward her. Liana tried to stand but her ankle twisted and she fell with a cry. “Such a pathetic little thing. I’m going to enjoy watching that bravery disappear.” Liana forced herself up and limped toward the cell bars but his arm shot out. His fingers grasped her wrist and he yanked her back. He tossed her to the floor like a ragdoll and crouched in front of her. Liana tried to drag herself away but he seized her ankle and pulled her straight toward him. “I’m the most powerful soldier under the king, and you- you stabbed me in front of everyone, you wretch!” he hissed. He grabbed the fabric at her shoulder and tore it making Liana gasp in fear as he hovered over her. Liana writhed beneath him. Panic burst through her chest but he pinned her down with brutal force. “You humiliated me in front of all of them. So now, b!tch, face the consequences!” Liana sobbed, trying to twist away but her struggle broke when he pinched her arm hard enough to bruise. Pain shot up her body. “Pl-please.. please... I- I’m sorry...” she pleaded shakily. But he didn’t let her finish. He grabbed her jaw and forced her head to the side in a cruel grip. He sniffed her scent and a smug smirk stretched across his face. “Well, b!tch, you’re way too beautiful to f*ck!” ----- Meanwhile, Kael sat before the window in his royal bedroom, plotting the next move against rival lords and rebellious provinces. Silence was his preference. And suddenly a vision flashed before his eyes. Kael clenched the armrest of his chair, remembering the blur vision of her. ‘A f*cking human mate!’ He gritted his teeth, still feeling the commotion of his wolves thrashing in his mind. They had not stopped since that moment. He fixed a death glare at the pale moon. ‘Why the f**k did the moon goddess has chosen a f*cking human for him!’ He was the most powerful alpha king and his mate was a weak human! He possessed immense strength that a single harsh snap from him could shatter her into a thousand pieces. Kael wanted to drag the moon goddess on her knees for choosing such mate for a inhuman king like him. It was infuriating. A weak human like her couldn’t be his mate. A frail person like her was incapable of being his partner! He didn’t need a mate at all! The anger inside him cooled but the blurry vision of her face kept appearing behind his closed eyes. ‘But she looked so tempting. So innocious and alluring.’ “F*ck!” Kael hissed roughly. He was losing his mind. He shouldn’t think of her but he kept doing that. Kael couldn’t stop himself. It felt impossible. He couldn’t see her face properly. Her long hair was blocking his view from seeing her face but he is certain that she was beautiful. Kael let out a deep exhale and rested his head against the chair. He had been in his room for over hours but her thoughts took place in his mind since he had taken her first glance. And it was unstoppable. ‘Danger! Danger! Mate! Danger!’ Kael snapped his eyes open when his wolf growled from within. He mind linked them immediately with clenched jaw. ‘Danger! Save Mate! Protect! Protect! Danger!’ his wolves screamed in his mind viciously as if they could smell the threat and taste the fear in the air. They didn’t stop. They repeated it again and again in a violent chorus that made Kael’s blood burn. ‘Mate! Mate! Danger! Kill! Protect! Ours! Claim! Hunt!’ His grey eyes sharpened realizing what they were telling to protect. The voices in his head weren’t whispers-they were screams. His mate was in danger! Kael’s hands tightened on the armrest until the stone creaked. He let out a low growl of his own. A sound that merged with the wolf’s cries, promising destruction to anyone who dared touch his mate. Kael rose to his feet and before he could stop himself, his body moved on its own. He stormed out of his room and marched down the corridor. The soldiers on guard lowered their heads in respect. His head was burning relentlessly. All of his wolves were possessively raging in his mind. They were out of control. He descended toward the underground basement cellar of the castle. Darkness swallowed the hall. Only by fires flickered in the corners, casting long twisted shadows on the stone walls. Kael had never set foot here before. His fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. His footsteps were furious and heavy. His eyes scanned each cells and they were all empty. He stopped in his track at a noise nearby. A meek, trembling cry of a woman. And the same sweet fragrance hit his nose. Now he knew it belonged to his mate. Kael followed the scent. His sharp handsome face was a stone. He halted when he spotted an open cell at the end of the corridor. The fragrance smelled of emotions, just like before and it was full of fear. And then his eyes fell inside. What he saw made his blood boil and his claws itched to tear the world apart.
