11. Bad memory

1992 Words
Beca's school year started to get better. She kept going to Bella's practice and eventually got closer to Chloe, they hung out, Beca helped her with math and they watched more soccer matches together, Chloe actually learning about it every time she watched it. "We have this important match in 6 days, is the last match of the victory tour, the last match of the year and of Abby Wambach." Beca explained to Chloe while entering the math class. Abby was one of Beca's favorite player, she was one of the best players in the world with more goals scored than any soccer player ever. "So I’m forced to watch it?" The ginger asked. "Well if you insist." Beca sarcastically said. The teacher slowly walked inside the classroom, the classroom went silent. Everybody knew what the teacher was about to talk about. Finals. "We're in the first weeks of December." He said pacing back and forth. "The 9th will be the exam. I'm giving you a week to get ready for it. With this said, we're going to start with the class." The man handed a work sheet to every group of students and sat down on his desk. Chloe took a piece of paper and passed it to Beca. Help? Beca laughed at the note and looked at Chloe with a smirk. Of course, you weirdo. "You can come to my place this Friday and help me with all I don't understand." Chloe offered. The girls were leaving the math class after 2 long hours of silent work. "Sure but you'll have to lock your monster or something." Beca said. "My dog?" Chloe asked with a smile, trying not to laugh at the memory. Beca nodded. Chloe couldn't believe badass Beca Mitchell was afraid of a dog. "Today at 2 PM as usual?" Beca asked. Chloe nodded in confirmation. "Great, see you at lunch." Beca waved her hand and ran towards Jesse, who jumped when he felt a hand cover his face. Chloe smiled at the sight of it. Entering the chemistry classroom she sat down at her usual spot when a sudden voice surprised her. "How's going?" Chloe shivered at that voice. She really didn't want to hear it. Tom. "Hi, you." She said non-chatly. "You didn't text back." he said sitting next to her. "And you're not my chemistry partner." She said without facing him. "I asked Ashley to change places." Chloe looked at Tom's usual spot and she saw Ashley giving her a pity smile. "And why are you here?" Chloe asked. Yes, she made out with Tom... A couple of times, but that meant nothing to her because A) she did it because she was tipsy. B) She's gay. She'd label herself as a bi curious, not because she liked guys and wanted to experiment with girls. It was the other way. She liked girls and she wanted to experiment with guys. "Why so cold?" Chloe thought she saw a glint of hurt in his eyes. "I'm sorry, you're right. It's early in the morning and I really don't like chemistry." She offered him a little smile, and he smiled back. "It’s okay. Can we go out after school?" Chloe was caught off guard, was he asking for a date? "As friends." He added after looking at Chloe's reaction. "Hum sure, but not at 6. I have practice." She said. "No no, it won't be that long, it just grab coffee or go for a walk after school." He smiled. Chloe nodded. "See you at 2 pm then." Ashley came back to her usual spot and Tom did that as well. Why did I agree? Chloe asked to herself. Of course he's not such a bad guy but she didn't like him. Well, he said they would go out as friends so that was better. Beca walked inside the cafeteria with Amy, laughing at something Amy was telling her. "I swear I almost pee my pants." Amy said shaking her head, making Beca laugh harder. They both grabbed something to eat and sat in a table where Jesse and Benji were sitting. "Hello losers." Stacie sat next to Beca, her head immediately crashing on Beca's shoulder. "Bad night?" Beca asked with a chuckle. "You don't imagine." she sat straight on her chair and started eating. "We still have 2 seasons left of criminal minds to watch and I kinda miss my best friend." "Kinda?" Beca asked her, raising an eyebrow. "Meh, you're not so good material, Mitchell." She said earning a slap on her arm from Beca. "Wanna come after school?" "I wish, I have to help Chloe with Math." Beca gave Stacie a sad smile. Stacie only sighed in response. "Whatever." she stood up and walked away. Beca quickly followed her. "Stace." she attempted to stop her but failed. "You're not jealous of Chloe, right?" "Who cares?" she replied dryly. Beca took her by the wrist and forced her to turn around. "I do because I am your best friend and you're mine." "Then act like it." The taller brunette snapped back. This time Stacie left and Beca didn't follow her. Stacie was right, they were distancing from each other and this was the millionth time in the month she had to say no to Stacie. Was she spending too much time with the red head? Did she ignore Stacie? What was she doing? She walked back to the cafeteria to grab her forgotten phone. "What's the matter with legs, Shorty?" Now everyone was in the table, including CR, Aubrey and Chloe. Beca shrugged and took her phone before leaving. "I better go." Chloe said softly. Beca headed to the quad and sat behind a tree. "Is everything okay?" Chloe asked. Beca nodded taking out her ear buds. "Talk to me, don't reply with actions." Chloe said, she knew Beca was shutting her out. "I’m fine, Chloe." Beca hated when people tried to get through her walls, she hated persistent people and she didn't even know why she was still hanging out with Chloe. She saw the hurt in Chloe's eyes and realized that her words sounded harsher than what she thought. "I'm sorry; I didn't mean that like that. It's just..." she tried to find the words to express what she was feeling but she couldn’t. "Just go back with the guys." She said as soft as she managed at that time. Chloe nodded and walked back to the cafeteria. Beca, as always, put her ear buds on and played whatever she found in her phone as loud as she could, till lunch was over. At the end of the day, Beca waited outside for Chloe, who was supposed to meet her to go to her house so she could teach her math. "What's taking her so long?" after 20 minutes, Chloe never came, or at least Beca didn't see her. "Maybe she's mad." She looked at the time, 2:35PM, she could go and fix things with Stacie since Chloe was in god knows where. Stacie was lying on the couch with Mr. White, her cat, lying on her lap. It scared the s**t out of her when a knock on the door broke the silence in her house. She moved her cat from her lap and walked over the door, only to find her favorite dork behind it holding 2 paper bags and her backpack. "What brings you here?" Stacie said arm-folded against her door, acting a serious as she could. "Apologize for being a dick." she said with an innocent smile. "I bring coffee." Stacie moved her head encouraging her to come in. Beca walked to the living room and placed both of the bags in the coffee table. "I have a black coffee for me, a mocha caramel for the best person I've ever met." Stacie rolled her eyes. "My laptop with season 8 and 9 of criminal minds, microwave popcorn, gummy bears, skittles, a medium size Toblerone, two mountain dew, and..." Beca said grabbing something big. "Nerds for you." Stacie's jaw fell to the ground. Yes she had a big obsession with them. "And cereal for me, of course." Stacie smiled at the dorkiness of her friend and told her to sit next to her by patting the couch pillow. Beca put the first chapter of criminal minds and sat next to her best friend. Stacie looked at Beca and just hugged her. They didn't need words to express themselves, they could know what they wanted by just looking straight at their eyes. Almost two hours passed by, the girls decided it was time to clean a little before Stacie’s siblings came back from school. "I thought you were going to be teaching math to Chloe." Stacie said. "My best friend is more important." Stacie knew Beca very well; she knew there was a why behind that. "Spill it, what happened with red?" Beca cursed herself for having people who knew her so well. "Okay, I was supposed to go with Chloe to my house but she never appeared, so I thought she was mad because I pushed her away when we "fought"." she said marking the air quotes. "And I really wanted to fix things with you, I was going to come sooner or later so... Anyways, in my way to the store I saw Chloe walking down the street with Tom." Beca didn't have to say anything more, Stacie understood and was happy that her friend chose to fix things with her because she knows how stubborn Beca is but she also saw that what Chloe did hurt Beca a little. She hardly ever sees Beca hurt, and this time was one. Stacie walked over to Beca and hugged her, taking her by surprise. "Why's this for?" Beca asked "You like her." it wasn't even a question. "Don't deny it." She added when she felt the shorter brunette body's tense. Beca sighed. "I really don't know, Stace. I really don't know." "It makes so much sense now." Stacie sighed. Beca pushed herself from Stacie a little bit. Just enough to see her face. Confused she asked. "What makes sense?" "You got so close in, what? 4 months? She's the only one you don't push away when she hugs you, she's pretty clingy and you still hang out with her, you spend most of your time with her and you joined something you've never joined if it wasn't because you have a big fat crush on her." Stacie explained with a warm smile. Everything started to sink in for Beca. She couldn't have a crush for Chloe f*****g Beale, but Stacie was right. This wasn't a crush. Beca loved Chloe. Beca and Stacie walked back to the school for Bella's practice, Beca with lots of s**t to process. "Did you take your pill?" Stacie noticed Beca's hands playing with each other and Beca being more silent so she asked before entering the auditorium. Beca shook her head and took a little box and opened it, popping one pill in her mouth. "What would you do without me?" Stacie asked, Beca gave her a little smile. Aubrey was there, everyone was there, but Chloe wasn't. "Where's Chloe?" Aubrey asked, running towards Beca with a scared look on her face. Beca acted cool. "I don't know." Beca shrugged, and then her eyes landed on the other door of the auditorium. "Ask him." Aubrey turned around just in time to see Chloe walking in with Tom besides her. Chloe looked to Aubrey, they looked at each other dead in the eye for a few seconds, then the red head saw Beca, her heart squeezing when she remembered that she was supposed to be with her after school, but left with Tom. She mouthed a 'sorry' to Beca, Beca only nodded before avoiding her eyes. "Bella practice." Aubrey said firmly, Tom's cue to leave.
