Engagement

Third person POV It has been 2 weeks now since Blake literally struck a deal with a demon, and travelled back in time, and the changes in his behaviour has freaked everyone out. Since he's return he's turned down every party invitation he's received, avoiding all physical interaction with the exception of he's two best friends Daniel and Selena. People started worrying about him because of he's change in behaviour, but he didn't care about it, he hung out with his friends and still did a few stupid things here and there because let's face it Blake is a natural carefree person who likes to do stupid things for fun, but there's also something different about him now. Blake got tired of reassuring everyone all the time so he just told everyone not to worry, which got them to stop asking him about it. Even Karina was showing concern for Blake which confused Terry who couldn't understand why he's best friend was suddenly paying so much attention to Blake who Karina herself can't stand being around specifically because of the way he treats or in this case treated Terry since he no longer does that. She asked Terry if Blake was ill and reminded her to check on him when they were at home to make sure he's okay. Terry tried her best but it only annoyed Blake and he would always dismiss Terry when she checked in on him. "Why the sudden worry for Blake?" Terry asked Karina. "Just because " came her answer with a shrug. Her answer left Terry feeling a little uneasy, and when she thought of Karina and Blake together her heart clenched but she couldn't understand why. However right now at this moment Terry's main concern is the cut on Blake's palm. You're probably wondering how it happened so here we go. A few days ago Terry broke a lamp while cleaning, and usually this would anger Blake, however this time around Blake remained calm and wasn't even upset about it, they ended up ordering a new lamp. The box with the new addition to the house just arrived today, it's Friday afternoon and they don't deliver over the weekend so we were lucky to be at home in time to receive the package. Blake was opening the box with a pair of box cutters when he accidentally cut his palm. Now normally you'd freak out at there being too much blood, however Terry was freaking out because she didn't see any blood. Blake hid his hand behind he's back quickly realizing that Terry could see that he wasn't bleeding. He looked at Terry, "I'll go wash the blood off..." Blake said calmly getting up to go to the bathroom. "Let me have a look." Terry said unimpressed at Blake, and put her hand out for Blake to put his hand into and show her his palm. "No, I'm fine" Blake denied, shaking his head and tried to walk past Terry only to be stopped by Terry taking hold of his wrist, and then instantly released it, she was taken aback at how cold his skin was. Blake pulled away from her, finally feeling liquid on his hand, he lifted it up slowly to show her, he's bleeding was delayed. "Look, are you happy now?" He asked in annoyance. At least his way of talking remained the same always slightly annoyed at Terry and he had a tendency to sound rude towards her even if he didn't mean to. Terry nodded her head in confusion, she couldn't explain what she saw, must be that her eyes were just playing tricks on her she thought to herself. "Do you need help bandaging your hand?" She asked in concern, and felt a little guilty. "No, don't worry about me, I'll be fine on my own" Blake said then brushed past Terry on his way to the bathroom. He closed the door behind him and looked down at his bleeding hand, unable to feel the pain. He rinsed off the blood he could see it was quite deep but not deep enough to be severe. After inspecting the damage, he cleaned up the wound and tried to bandage it, failing terribly, He decided to just go back to the living room with a clumsily bandaged hand. Blake silently watched as Terry set up the lamp on her own. Just as she was finishing up she caught a glimpse of a clumsily wrapped hand in the corner of her eye, she looked up and made eye contact with Blake who looked uneasy, obviously needing her help but too nervous to ask her. "Uhm ..." He started, unsure of what to say, Blake has never had to ask for help before so he didn't learn how to, he grew up having everything given to him, or having servants there to automatically do things for him. It was either that or did everything on his own, and right now he is embarrassed to ask Terry for help, he also felt like it would wound his pride. "You need help?" Terry asked, raising her eyebrow at him. Blake only nodded his head, at least he didn't have to ask out loud. Terry quickly went to grab a new bandage roll, then gently removed the one Blake attempted to wrap on his own. She help his ice cold hands softly and wrapped the new bandage around his wrist, then she brought it up and down between his thumb and index finger, then again around his wrist repeating the process meticulously until the bandage had completely been wrapped, she then secured it very carefully using a safety pin. Blake watched her throughout the process, in complete awe at how careful and meticulous she was, he was amazed at her beauty as she concentrated on helping him, he felt his heart skip a beat. Once she was done he tried to pull his hand away, when she grabbed it gently in her small hands. "Why are your hands so cold?" "Because I used cold water to wash them" "And what about before that?" "I came out of my air conditioned room, now can you stop asking questions and go get ready, we need to leave soon. Terry's POV I just sighed and went up to my room, I would find out sooner or later but right now Blake was right we had a family dinner to attend with both of our parents, we dreaded each of these dinners. Thankfully we weren't eating anywhere too fancy so I can dress casually but I still need to keep it semi formal. I decided on jeans with a white shirt and a salmon pink cardigan over it. Once I was done getting ready I went to wait for Blake at the door. After a while I heard Blake's room door close, when I looked up at him coming down the stairs I blinked and took in his outfit frowning a little, we matched, I mean different colours but still, he had on jeans with a black shirt and a cream cardigan over it. I drove us today, Blake seemed a little out of it, I glanced at him every now and then to see him just staring out of the window, the entire car ride was silent. "Terry, Blake!" Blake's mom called us over excitedly when we walked into the restaurant. Blake's POV "Mom." *flashback* "Mom." I said slightly angry, in my opinion this entire engagement is ridiculous, I took a seat next to my parents and glared at them. "Cancel this engagement , I'm completely against it" I said, clicking my tongue at them. "Blake Beckett, Watch yourself ." My father said in a stern tone, I was afraid of my father a lot of people were, which is why I just kept quiet. My mother smiled apologetically at the Carter's to which I rolled my eyes, Our parents were very close and yet we despised one another. "Blake, you know if we could we would but this engagement was set by your grandfather it's in his will and there's nothing we can do about it, my son, so here's my advice to you, stop being so immature and pay better attention to Terry, I'm sure you will come to like her eventually." My mom whispered to me, putting her hand on mine. I pulled my hand away and ignored her. It's my engagement I should have every say in who I marry not my grandfather, he's already dead anyway, I see no reason for me to fulfil his wish. This engagement in any case is just a way for the Carter's to pay back a debt they owed my grandfather when he helped them out, he's only condition was that they marry their first child to me his only grandchild, we met a few times as kids, but even as kids Terry and I never got along. Dinner went by quickly and soon enough I was back in my room on my balcony. *Present time* I greeted both mine and Terry's parents before I took a seat, watching them I could see them look at each other in confusing before they looking at Terry in a quizzical manner, and all she did was shrug before she took her seat. "Ohhh, I see you guys are matching." My mom exclaimed excitedly. "Just a coincidence" I said flatly to discourage whatever she was thinking. "Is Blake treating you well?" My dad asked Terry, and I knew she would say the same thing she always told them, except this time it would be said genuinely and not as a lie. "Yeah, he is." She smiled at them, and again I found myself wishing she would smile at me. I watched quietly as everyone ate, feeling a little bit irritated. My parents loved Terry, probably even more than they loved me, they showed her so much love and care, but I was always just given everything I asked for, but the one thing I truly wanted was for them to show me the love and care they show her. What irritated me the most was that not a single one of my parents noticed the bandage on my hand, I just sat through dinner and once again it went by quickly and we left for home Terry's POV I sat down on my balcony after a nice warm shower and closed my eyes enjoying the silence of the night, I opened my eyes to look at the beautiful stars in the sky when I heard Blake's balcony door slide open. He usually came out here to scream his frustrations out after dinner with our parents, disrupting my peace. I couldn't see him because of the wall that separates our balconies, but I could still hear him as he moved around and then took a gulp of something. "F***" I heard him whisper under his breath, that was odd already because he wasn't screaming his lungs out. I kept quiet as I listened, maybe I could find out why he's been so different lately. "Is this pain really necessary" I could hear him ask in frustration to no one in particular, yet it made me wonder who he was referring to, who could be causing him pain. "If only..." He once again mumbled out, I leaned my ear against the wall hoping to hear what he was mumbling out, but I couldn't make out the rest of his sentence, until "To hell with this engagement" that was the last thing I heard before he sighed and went back inside.
