Wrong Time
Genre: Heartbreak, Rejection Starring: Anna Sullivan, Austin Brown (Part 1) Anna's POV It's been ten years since I'm in a relationship with Austin. We have been together since the freshman year of my high school, he was in his second year. I put on my favorite red lipstick as I recall everything we have been through. Austin has always loved me with all his heart, sometimes I did too. I smiled as I thought about how excited he was to ask me out on a date right after I came back from Paris. But it was a strange excitement, I couldn't quite pinpoint the feeling. Maybe, I'm just too stressed to be as excited as him. My contemplation was broken when my phone suddenly rang on the dresser. It was Austin. His excited deep voice blew up my phone as soon as I picked it up, "I'm on my way to pick you up! Are you ready?" Despite being 27, he has a childish side that either cracks me up or steps on my nerve. "I'm ready, call me when you're downstairs." "See you, my love," he hung up the phone. I could feel his excitement from the screen. This time, I put my phone in my purse and did a little touch up to my makeup before getting up. I wore the dress he bought me to wear tonight, a red shimmering cocktail dress that accentuates my curves well. With the dress, I wore a pair of red earring and the simple necklace with a locket that he gave me on our first anniversary. It didn't take long for him to reach my front gate. As soon as his eyes fell on me, I could see stars sparkling in his eyes as his mouth curved the most beautiful smile, "You're beautiful." He wore the suit I brought for him from Paris, it fitted him perfectly and he looked as handsome as ever. With a smile on my face, I replied, "You look wonderful." He opened the front door for me like the gentleman he has always been and I took my seat. "Where are we going?" "I want to take a detour before we go to our final destination," he replied enthusiastically. I buckled up my seatbelt as he revved the engine. After 20 minutes, our car stopped in front of our high school building, the place where we first met. "Why are we here?" I asked with my mind full of confusion. He put his hand my hand, which was resting on my lap, "I want to relive the high school days with you again." He moved his hand and gave it to me, "May I have your permission." With an awkward smile, I placed my hand on his with affirmation. The dark hallway reminded us of the time we sneaked inside the school to get one of my book that Ms. Arkan seized. "It's been so many years since we walked together in this hallway," he said as his grip got tighter around my hand. "Some of the people were so jealous of us to the point that they wished to break us apart" I said. "Well they failed miserably, I'm still here holding your hand after 10 years" he paused and said, "I'll never drop it." Later, we walked to the basketball stadium where we first met. It was still the way it used to be. I remember the day when our eyes first met. Right after he tossed the winning shot, the whole arena was filled with cheers. I cheered as well, but suddenly our eyes met. He didn't take it away from me even when the players tossed him in the air, he never took it away. But me? I was too shy to even look at him again, so I ran out of there. Finally, after an hour, we got out of the school. He drive on the highway as I stare peacefully outside the window. All of a sudden, the car came to a halt. "What happened?" I asked. He gave a painful smile, "Flat tire." He always smiled no matter the situation. We both got out and he took out the tools and a brand new spare tire. "Keep my jacket with you, I don't want any stain on it," he said as he hand over his grey blazer to me. While he changed the tire, I looked around the highway when I felt a small box in the pocket. My eyes widened from shock, it didn't feel like a normal box, it's a ring box. He is going to propose? Suddenly, my chest felt heavier. Isn't it too early? ~To be continued
