CHAPTER 1
“You got in!” Ezra let out a loud scream as Lily read the email she just got. She stared at her laptop screen dumbfounded.
IV Group is one of the biggest companies in all of America, so getting a job there was a once in a lifetime miracle. And Lily just got a job as the secretary of the CEO.
She turned to look at Ezra who was beaming. “I got the job!” Lily finally said, giving Ezra a big hug. They both got up jumping in circles excitedly.
“I can’t believe it. When I applied, I even made fun of myself for doing so. You don’t think they made a mistake,do you?” Lily stopped jumping, a worried expression now plastered on her face.
“Why would they make such a mistake, cheer up Lily. You got the job!” Ezra said, shaking Lily back to reality.
“That’s right, I really did it.” Lily thought to herself with a big smile on her face.
Lily had been job hunting for weeks and out of the seven companies she applied to, she had already been rejected by six.
She was already in tears thinking of how her dream of getting a stable job and living a normal and peaceful life will go down the drain a few minutes ago, but now she was celebrating the night away.
…
It was finally Lily’s first day of work. Ezra helped her dress up as Lily was so nervous she couldn’t decide on what to wear. Thankfully that was Ezra’s specialty as she is a fashion designer. She is wearing a cream satin shirt, a pencil skirt, her feet were adorned with a pair of black heels and her hair tied up in a ponytail. Immediately she was all done dressing up, she took one last look in the mirror. Her eyes trailed to her neck. She adjusted the golden locket she was always wearing and tucked it into her shirt.
“You’ll do just fine.” Ezra said, sensing that Lily was nervous. Lily tightened her fist. “Pull yourself together.” She said to her reflection in the mirror.
Lily was standing right in front of the IV Group building. She gulped hard as she looked up at the skyscraper. In the busy streets of New York, Lily's heartbeat was the loudest thing.
Lily took a deep breath before stepping into the building. She spoke to the receptionist who directed her to the seventeenth floor. She took the elevator up.
As the elevator door opened, standing in front of her was a handsome young man in a black suit. He greeted her.
“You must be Lily Evans?” He asked, pushing up his glasses.
“Yes.” She responded.
“My name is John Green. The CEO’s personal assistant.” He stretched out his hand for a shake which Lily took nervously.
“Nice to meet you.” She replied.
“I will explain what you will be doing.” He said, signaling Lily to follow him. The floor was almost empty, there were just two desks in the big room with a door in between them. He walked straight to one of the desks in the office, which was his.
He sat down, he gestured for Lily to sit on the chair in front of him. As she sat down, he began talking again.
“As said in the mail, you will be working as a secretary for Mr. Dominic, and you must attend to matters he addresses swiftly and sharply.” John explained to Lily who sat there listening attentively. He brought out an envelope and gave it to Lily.
“Please open it.” He said. Lily opened the envelope and brought out a paper. She read the content. It was her contract, she scanned it while John waited for her response.
“Fifteen thousand dollars monthly!” She gasped.
“Yes, we can always negotiate if you want.” He said adjusting his glasses.
That was really beyond Lily had planned for so there was no way she was going to turn down such an offer.
“There is no need for any negotiation, Mr. Green.” She said.
“Very well then, but please call me John.” John said. Lily signed the papers and handed them back to him.
John stood up from his seat. “Let me introduce you.” He said to Lily.
She also stood up and followed him to the door. He knocked on the door.
“Enter.” A voice from inside the office said. Lily's heartbeat hastened.
What type of man was he? Was he as scary and strict as the rumors online said? Different questions were spiraling in Lily’s mind.
John pushed the door open, revealing the office and a man sitting in front.
The CEO’s office was like a museum exhibit, a piece of artwork was hanging on the wall and everything else was in its place. The desk was made of polished wood and Mr. Dominic sat on the leather chair behind it. “Viktor Dominic” the nameplate on the table displayed.
John and Lily walked up to Mr. Dominic who was fixated on what he was writing. “How can I help you?” He said without looking up.
“Sir, I would like to introduce Miss Lily Evans, she will be working as your secretary from now on.” He said. Mr. Dominic paused, finally looking up, his eyes meeting Lily’s.
[LILY’S POV]
I stood beside John, staring down at the man who I would be working for. He didn’t seem to care that we were standing in front of him.
“Nice to meet you sir, I look forward to working with you.” I blurted out nervously.
I had always heard the rumor of how good looking the CEO was but good looking was an understatement. He was handsome and heavenly.
His long eyelashes fluttered as he blinked, his hair black and silky. He stared at me for a bit then back at John.
“I thought I told you I didn’t need a secretary.” He said with his deep husky voice.
“Sir, I believe it would be more convenient for you to have one.” John said back politely.
I was in dismay. Was I going to lose the job before even getting it? I couldn’t let that happen, not in a million years.
“Sir, I believe you will find me extremely useful to you. I may not look like it but I am incredibly agile and I don’t get tired easily. I even won best athlete back in school and I was the class president-” John cuts me off. I gasped, I didn’t even realize I had been rambling.
There was no way I was getting the job now.
