The Truth
Alainah was having a great time with all her family and friends around her, she had just gotten engaged to the man she was madly in love with and couldn't wait to plan the rest of her life with; she had been with Roddrick for over five years, ever since they met in college and he convinced her to go out with him. He was constantly telling her how lucky he was to have found her but she always thought she was the lucky one, he was driven, ambitious, and hard-working, all the things she believed herself to be, which is why she thought they were a perfect match. She watched him from across the room admiring how good he looked in his suit dreaming of their wedding day and how good he would look then; the party was in full swing and people were all conversing, she was pulled away to talk with her best friend Eve.
"I can't believe it took Roddrick this long to propose to you"
"I am just happy to be with him proposal or not"
"You sound like a sap right now"
"Well then call me maple syrup"
"OK cornball", both girls had a good laugh at that.
Eve had been by Alainah's side since the first grade, they had gone through so much together, from heartbreaks to triumphs, and had gotten the other one through it without so much as a fight between the two, Eve was like a second sister to her and she loved how protective they were of each other. She was there when Eve met her husband Jake in their sophomore year of high school and when they broke up right after graduation only to get back together in the middle of their freshmen year of college, she was happy her friend had found her person.
"I truly am glad that you found someone who makes you happy and if he ever does anything to hurt you I will cut off his balls and make earrings out of them", Eve could be a bit extreme when she wanted to.
"Thanks, I know you will, I feel like I hit the jackpot with him"
"You say that now, but wait until you have to remind him to pick up his clothes for the thousandth time or he forgets your anniversary"
"That happened one time and you will not let it go", Jake grabbed his wife from behind and kissed her on the cheek, causing her to smile and blush.
"Now who is the sap", Alainah said with a smile.
"Oh shut up", her friend shot back.
"Congrats Lainah, I hope you and Rod are very happy together"
"Thanks, Jake", she couldn't help but smile thinking about her fiance.
Her mother Margret was the next person to congratulate her and talk about how proud she was of how her daughter's life had turned out so far, her mother was a very sentimental woman and loved to gush over both her daughter's accomplishments, like when she got into college and her mother threw a massive party to celebrate. She only wished her father could have been there to share in the happy day; it had been only three years since her father's passing and she thought of him almost every day and how he would miss her wedding and birthing of her children. She was lucky to have a mother who cared so much about her and only wanted the best for her.
"Honey, I am so proud of the woman you have become and I can't wait to see what comes next"
"Thanks, Mom, I am so glad I have you help me through all of life's situations"
"That is what a mother does, you never needed much help, you are a strong, smart, level-headed woman"
"I don't know about all that, but thank you, Mom"
She gave her mother the biggest hug and went to see how everyone else was doing around the house, it was going to be a long clean-up after but that was what she loved about these gatherings, everyone had fun and she got to show off her amazing party throwing skills, it was one of her passions. Her sister stayed behind to help with the cleanup and she was grateful for the help, she loved spending time with her baby sister, Amyah was only three years younger than her but she sometimes felt like the older one and that was one of the things she loved about her sister.
"Are you really sure you want to marry this guy?"
"You act like Roddrick is some stranger off the street"
"I am just saying"
"I know what you are just saying and yes I am sure, he treats me like a queen while also treating me like an equal"
"I just think you should consider your options before you settle down with him"
"Is there something you want to tell me Amyah?"
Her sister didn't say another word just started cleaning another section of the room; there was something about the way her sister was talking that made her think maybe her sister wasn't telling her everything she felt about her fiance, she wanted to ask more questions but she knew her sister would just get mad and leave. She figured she would say something soon enough when she thought the time was right, trying to pry never worked. When the clean-up was done she said her goodnights to her sister and headed up to bed, her sister always let herself out at the end of these parties; Alainah had fallen asleep as soon as she climbed into the bed, she was woken up by the sounds of yelling or what she thought was yelling. The noise was coming from the guest room down the hall, she could hear what sounded like her fiance but as she got closer to the door she also heard her sister's voice, the realization hit all at once, they were having s*x. Without really thinking, Alaina threw the door open and started yelling, she watched as her fiance and sister started scrambling to put on their clothes, she couldn't believe what she was seeing, she was ready to beat her sister right then and there.
"I know this looks bad but I swear it's not what you think", Roddrick tried to come close to her but she started backing up towards the door.
"I could hear you outside the room, I know what you were doing", she wasn't going to let him talk his way out of this.
"It didn't mean anything, it was just s*x"
"Is that why you were asking me if I was sure about marrying him Amyah?", she ignored Roddrick completely and started talking to her sister.
"I didn't want you to find out like this"
"How long have you been screwing my fiance or should I say ex-fiance?"
"It started last year when we all went on that friend trip to the beach resort, we got drunk one night and one thing led to another"
"Is this true Roddrick?"
"Yeah, but I love you not her"
"That's not what you said last night", Amyah was getting pissed.
"So when you were hanging out with Greg, it was actually her?", Alainah was done with this conversation and just wanted them both out of her house, "please just get out, I don't want to look at you anymore"
"We need to talk about this more", Roddrick sounded desperate.
"That's fine, come on Roddy, let go to my place", her sister was also desperate.
"No, I need to stay and try to save my relationship"
"As far as I'm concerned there is no relationship, now please get out of my house"
Alainah grabbed Amyah by the hair and started dragging her down the hall, when she got to the stairs she was ready to throw her sister down but she thought better of it and just let go telling her to get out and never come back, she warned them both that she would call the police if they refused to leave. When they were both gone she crawled into bed and cried herself to sleep wondering why they would do that to her and what she did to make her fiance want to be with her sister of all people; she knew she had to get out of there Roddrick would be back soon. Realizing he might try to come back the next day she got on her computer and looked for last-minute flights to wherever, deciding on a tropical island Alainah booked her flight packed enough for about a week, and headed out. She made sure to let Eve know what had happened and what she was doing, being careful to leave out where she was going, she knew her friend would spill the beans if she was angry enough so only giving her the information about a flight and not the destination was key.
