Mathieu POV
I took Ruby to the small office I'd created for myself. She walked in ahead of me and I closed the door behind before crossing the room to my makeshift bar.
Ruby paced as she quickly pulled her hair into a ponytail.
I poured her a glass of brandy.
She hesitated as I handed the glass to her, her green eyes looking up at me with more pain than any woman her age should have. Her fingers wrapped around the glass slowly as she stared into the glass almost thoughtfully before putting it to her lips. She took a sip and then downed it all in one gulp. She shook her head and gave the glass back to me before sitting down.
