Here I thought high school was my worst time, boy, was I wrong. Working at the resort as errand girl truly sucks.
This morning was super busy. The resort was full over the weekend, and everyone from the office personnel to the maids needed supplies.
Sophis, of course, was the most demanding. Ticked off because she didn't hear from Huntly all weekend, she took it out on me.
This morning, with him being late, it just added fuel to the fire.
It's noon time time before Huntly showed up. My mom met him at the office door, reminding him of his responsibilities. He just laughed it off.
"Where have you been?" Sophia demands.
"I have been busy. This is Addie. She is from the Sun pack. Her parents and her spent the weekend here." Huntly tried to convince everyone he was just showing her around.
If looks could kill, Addie would definitely be dead. Sophia threw eye daggers from across the room. I turned my head so she wouldn't see me laughing.
Huntly introduced her to my mom and then turned to me. " This is Bella. She's our fetch it, girl. "He said with a smirk
Sophia couldn't wait to jump in on the insult wagon. "Ya, she's our go get it girl. The only job we have here for an ugly duckling."
"That's not nice to say, but I can see why you call her that. Why would you even hire her?" Addie added to the conversation.
Throwing down the supplies that Sophia asked for. I turned and tried to get out of there before more words were thrown at me. But that didn't happen.Grabbing my arm, Sophia demanded I pick up the supplies and place them nicely on her desk. "Just because you are mad at him for being with another bimbo this weekend, don't take it out on me." I yelled in her face.
I guess this ticked her off even more. Hitting the wall and falling to the floor was painful. I let out a tearful. "Ouch." As I tried to pick myself up. Sophia was headed toward me again when I heard a low growl. Suddenly, Huntly was in front of me, pushing Sophia away. "She's my mate. I won't let you hurt her."Reaching down, he helped me up.
"What ? This girl is your mate? I thought you said you don't have a mate. "Addie gave me dirty looks.
"I don't claim her. I didn't know my wolf would come out so strong when she got hurt." Taking Addies hand Huntly started out the door.
"Don't think I care."He said as he left the office.
Feeling totally embarrassed and hurt, I made my way to my mom's office.Taking a seat on her couch, I let the tears flow. I just don't get it. He defended me just to insult me. It makes no sense. I hate working here. It wasn't long, and mom showed up. "What's up?You look upset."
"Oh, I don't know. Sophia just threw me again the wall. I hurt my arm, and before she could get to me again. Huntly jumped in. He told them I was his mate and he wouldn't let her hurt me. In the next breath, he insulted me. I don't get it."
"Don't worry yourself so much. If he is truly your mate, the gods will work it out. You will change. You are just what we call a late bloomer. Time is on your side." Mom kissed my head and sent me on more fetch errands.
I didn't even get the chance to escape the office when Sophia came in having a tamptum fit. "Would you please tell Huntly we have a schedule to keep. He's busy playing with that Addie chick." Throwing her hair back over her should like she was that important.
"I will page him. Go back and don't make a scene. "
I am not sure what tickled me more. The fact he had another flaming blonde hanging on his arm or that Sophia was biting the bit over it. I knew soon my day would become better. My best friend Calie was meeting me for lunch. She is the total opposite of me. A natural beauty and a mouth to go with it.
Heading to the restaurant, we see Huntly showing off his sidekick. "Wow, she's a looker."Calie spits out. Huntly turns and smiles. He knew she was, and he just had to show her off and rub it into the guys looking her up and down.
Calie could sence something was off with me. "Okay, let's have it. What is going on?"
"That's right. I haven't talked to you in a few weeks. I found out the night before the prom that Huntly is my mate. He was being his arrogant self and kissed me. At that moment, we found out we are mates. Just now, he defended me from his secretary Sophia and then turned around and insulted me.They all call me the ugly duckling. I hate it here."
"Didn't Sarah say she could get you a job there? It would be better than here. At least you would be away from him."
"I guess they hired someone else. She will let me know if anything else becomes available. I just keep hoping. Mom doesn't want me there. She said it's bad enough putting up with the stink from Sarah and dad working at the hospital. She hates the human smell on them when they come home."
We were trying to have our lunch in peace when it was rudely interrupted. Sophia just couldn't let me be. Complaining she needed more supplies, she demands them in 20 minutes.
"Not going to happen . We still have thirty minutes left. So take a hike ."Mouthy Calie just had to spit out.
"Fine."Sophia turns to walk away and runs smack into Huntly and his lady. "Excuse me, I was just leaving."
"Don't let us stop you."Addie stares Sophia down.
I really thought there would be a cat fight right then and there. But Sophia just turned and walked away.
I couldn't hold back the laughter any longer. Busting out in loud laughter caused the restaurant to go silent. All eyes were on me.Now I want to sink and hide under the table. Huntly slams his hands on the table and gets inches away from my face. "Dont think just because I saved you once I would allow you to laugh at my ladies. You can't hold a candle to them. You are nothing but an ugly duckling that will never amount to anything."
Feeling like a total fool, my face turned completely red. I just wanted to disappear. From across the room came a familiar voice. It was Curtis. Huntlys best friend and the beta to our pack.
"You need to chill out. I just watched the Alphia of our pack make a total fool of himself. We all know you are a lover of beautiful women, but to have a showdown between you one night fling and your secretary isn't great for business. Then to make fun of one of your workers on top of all that . Not a smart move, my friend." Curtis kept his voice low but spoke sincerely.
Huntly just looked at Curtis and turned away from me. Walking away quietly.
"I am so sorry, Bella. I know he sometimes is a jerk. Is there anything I can do for you to make up for his rudeness?" Curtis touches my hand and smiles at me. I don't think anyone has ever smiled at me and looked at me the way he did. It made me feel good, like I belonged there for a moment.
Calie and I finished our lunch and was walking back to my mom's office when Huntly stopped me.
"Look, I know you are my mate, but you will never be good enough to be my Luna. Besides, I have no intention of settling down anytime soon. So let's just stay out of each other's way. That way, we can stop these embarrassing encounters."
Walking away, I could feel my heart beat fast, and my body felt like it was run over. All I could think was I needed to leave this place. But how?
