The trip to Rockfish Gap went off without a hitch. Jon held his little kitten the whole way there keeping his eyes open for any signs of danger. Cam had sat in the front with Dealin who was just as worried as Cam was. They had never seen Jon this way with anyone which was a sure sign that Akira was indeed their friend’s Mate. Throughout the trip Dealin had made calls to make sure that the compound was on high alert for any possible signs of Hunters. As for Cam he kept his attention on the road to make sure they arrived safely and as they drove through the gates of the compound he let out a soft sigh of relief.
As they came to a stop at Christina’s office they saw her standing there with a gurney and a couple of her staff. When Jon opened the door one of the male nurses reached in and attempted to take Akira out of his arms. A vicious snarl came from Jon as he snapped at the poor guy “Get your hands off of my Mate!” Quickly the man backed away and looked to Christina who simply laughed.
“You know better than to touch another person’s Mate. You are lucky that you didn’t draw back a nub! Now move so I can see what we are looking at first.” The light of in the vehicle gave her plenty enough light to take a peek. Shaking her head she lifted her gaze to Jon. “She will be fine and as promised you can stay with her the whole time. I have a bed large enough for Mates so that you can lie down together and keep her calm. The sedative that Noel gave her seems to be holding for the moment however I may give her a little more just to be safe.” Stepping out of the way Christina quickly issued orders to those who were there then disappeared inside of the office to give Jon and the others time to get out and join her in the office.
Jon carefully extracted himself and Akira from the SUV without letting her go. As he carefully moved around with his precious treasure in his arms he heard Akira groan softly in pain causing him to pause for a moment to check on her. Once she nuzzled her cheek against his chest Jon carefully proceeded into the building not wanting to put his beloved Akira on the gurney where someone else could touch her. Protective much? Oh absolutely when it came to his beloved.
Daelin lead the way into the medical center since the facility belonged to his pride. Jon let out a fierce growl at the male nurse who kept getting to close to Akira as he carried her. Within moments they had reached the room Christina had spoken about earlier when they had arrived. Carefully Jon laid his most precious of treasures on the bed careful not to hurt her. As the male nurse whose name was Frederick entered the room Jon started to shift so he could protect his Mate at all costs. Obviously the guy was a few French Fries short of a Happy Meal because he did not back off but kept advancing. Daelin stepped in front of him to stop the male from moving any closer and getting himself killed. “You Frederick are a moron and you are removed from duty as far as it relates to Akira. Get out before I let Jon tear you limb from limb.” Frederick’s eyes rounded in shock as he backed out of the room grumbling that it was not Daelin’s place to remove him from his duty.
Poor Frederick backed right up into Christina who promptly grabbed the back of his shirt and growled causing Frederick to stop dead in his tracks. “Oh you know better than to say things like that Daelin is our Alpha. Since you seem to think he cannot toss you off the case then let me reiterate what he said…You are off of this case. In addition for being so obnoxious over this issue you are fired from this clinic. I will put in a good word for you at the hospital where I work in town. Now get out of my sight before I turn both Jon and Daelin loose on your ass.”
Wide eyed and very much pissed off Frederick high tailed it out of the clinic the split second that Christina had let go of his shirt. Shaking her head as she entered into the room she looked at both Daelin and Jon whom had managed to somehow stop his shift. “Gentlemen he will no longer be an issue I have fired him from his position here at the clinic. Though I will help him get a job at the hospital in town.” Christina looked at Akira lying on the bed with Jon standing guard as she continued to speak. “Noel told me that she did more damage to her shoulder when she ripped open the stitches. Jon I want to do some tests tomorrow to make sure that the damage is not permanent. But for now I think it best that we let her sleep.” Then she turned her attention to Jon. “There is a shower in my office make use of it. Then you can join your Mate. I am sure that Daelin will stand guard while you freshen up.”
Before Jon could say a word Christina rushed past him to Akira’s side to begin a cursory exam of the wound. Daelin placed a hand on Jon’s shoulder and spoke softly to him. “Come on man you can update Cam and then get a shower. Give Christina time to look over your Mate. And trust me when I say you do not want to be present when she examines her.”
Jon’s shoulders slumped as he nodded to Daelin and slowly walked out of the room like a scolded baby panther with his tail tucked between his legs. Now left to her duties Christina gently pulled the bandage away from the wound causing a soft groan of pain to come from Akira. From the hallway a low growl floated through the halls since Jon had been in earshot. Thankfully Jon kept himself in check no doubt in large thanks to Daelin.
It took Jon about an hour to get back to Akira’s bedside only to still find Christina examining Akira and Daelin still guarding her. Jon nodded to Daelin and then stepped into the room. Careful to speak softly she did not wake up his Mate Jon spoke to Christina, “Is she alright? I did not expect you to still be here. Please tell me I am not going to lose her.” The look of panic overtook his normally blank expression after all he was a lawyer and needed to know how to hide his emotions.
“She is going to be alright though I believe an infection is setting in. I have given her some antibiotics but it may be a rough couple of days for her. So I will be keeping her sedated for the time being. The calmer she is the better off she is going to be. So I also started an IV drip to help keep her hydrated and to make it easier to administer her medicines. Jon she is strong and will be alright. You can stay here and I will make sure that you are brought your meals so you do not have to leave her.” Christina turned to look at Jon as she continued to prepare the sedative and painkiller cocktail. “You can use the shower in here and I will ask Cam to bring you some clothes as well. But be warned she has a fight ahead of her.” Then she turned and pushed the sedative and painkiller cocktail through the IV line. “I will leave you to take care of your Mate Jon. Call if you need anything or something feels wrong with how she is resting. Otherwise I will see you tomorrow morning to change the IV bag and give her some more medicine.”
Christina did not wait for him to answer her; she simply left closing the door behind her. Naturally she would bring Daelin up to speed and find out how many of his Enforcers she should expect to be posted in her clinic this time. As for Jon he fell to his knees beside of Akira’s bed and took her hand into his. “I am here cara. I will not leave your side I promise.” He remained silent and praying to any deity that would listen for what seemed like forever then he crawled into bed beside her gently pulling her into his arms making sure to take care not to jar her injury.
