Akira has been on the run since she was a child and her parents were killed right in front of her by Hunters. Her Alpha and Luna took her in so she could continue to grow up. But the Hunters were relentless in their attempt to get Akira because they fear what she will one day turn into. She left the safety of her pack to save them. Chapter 1
The sun peeked over the trees as it rose into the sky to herald that the new day was there. Akira’s mismatched eyes, one the color of sapphires and the other the color of emeralds, slowly opened as she grumbled a greeting to the new day. Today she was to begin a new job and a new life far away from the life she had left behind. No matter how much she tried to put it out of her mind she knew that her time here was going to be short. Akira knew in her heart that those she ran from would find her sooner or later and she would be on the run again.              For now she put the thoughts to rest and dragged her tired and achy body out of bed and into the bathroom for a shower.  Stumbling into the bathroom she turned on the hot water in the shower only to temper it slightly with cold water. As the steam filled the bathroom she slipped into the shower and let the warmth seep into her body allowing it to help ease the aches that existed from having run so far. After a few moments she quickly showered and washed her hair. After grabbing a towel she wrapped it around herself and stepped out of the shower to get ready for her big day.         Dressed in a simple black skirt that brushed her silken skin just above her knees and a white blouse, Akira took one last look in the mirror as she slipped on her black patent leather heels. Satisfied she looked professional enough; Akira grabbed her keys and headed for the door of her less than desirable motel room she had been staying in the past few days. Carefully she opened the door and took stock of anything and everything that might indicate she had been found. Once she was certain that she was alright for the moment Akira set out to work.         Since it was a nice day and her new job was not too far from where she was staying, Akira decided to walk to work and give the old beat up car she had been using a break. With money being a rather elusive commodity as of late it also saved on any possible repairs she might have to make if she pushed that car much further. Virginia Beach, Virginia was the fifth city in a year and a half for her and Akira was growing tired of moving around so much. Perhaps I should just let them capture me at least then I would not have to worry so much I would be at my final resting before too long she had thought to herself.         Shaking her head a bit to clear her thoughts she sighed and stepped into the office of Lawson and Associates. Plastering a smile on her face the wayward were-panther stepped up to the desk and spoke to the receptionist she had met the other day after her interview. “Hello could you point me in the direction of human resources?”          “Hi I am Sue I didn’t tell you my name the other day. Welcome to Lawson and Associates. Karen in Human Resources is out today as her sister is having a baby. But she left these forms,” Sue picked them up and handed them to Akira “for you to fill out. You can bring them back tomorrow if you would like.” Akira smiled and took them from the young woman and nodded. “Mr. Jacoby will be right down to give you a tour of the office. As you know we are the premier law office in the area Miss Raleigh.”        Softly Akira chuckled and nodded “Please call me Akira.” She took a seat in the reception area as Sue took a phone call. After what seemed like ages Mr. Jacoby stepped into the reception area and offered Sue a smile who motioned to Akira as she continued her conversation on the phone. As he approached her, she stood up and extended her hand. “Hello Mr. Jacoby, I’m Akira Raleigh.” Taking in a steady breath she caught a scent on the air around her. Could it be? Was he a shifter too?
