Saving Akira (Complete)

Chapter 7

     Several hours later Noel emerged from the doors that they took Akira through. Jon jumped up and went to meet her. “How is she Noel? Can I see her? Is she going to be alright?” Noel took a deep breath and patted him on the shoulder. “She is going to be fine. You know this as well as I do.” Noel lowered her voice so that just Jon and Cam, who had joined them, could hear her. “It would be easier if she could shift but she is dormant for now. She has not gone into heat as yet though she is getting close to going into heat for the first time. Let’s hope that it waits until she is healed. The bullet was not silver thankfully so whoever did this has no clue how to take out a shifter. I dug the bullet out and she has a bit of a concussion nothing serious. She screamed about having to get out of here. What the hell is going on?” 

     “Let me go to her Noel. I need to find that out myself. She screamed and panicked so bad until they gave her that shot to calm her down.” The look on his face told Noel everything she needed to know as to why he was behaving like an overprotective lover. “Jon she’s your Mate isn’t she?” He nodded as the tears fell down his cheeks. “Everything is going to be alright Jon. Cam go with him and keep him calm we can’t have him shifting here in the hospital. You get five minutes with her Jon because she is still in recovery. I’ll have the nurse take you to her room we need to keep her overnight to make sure she does not react to the anesthesia.”  

     Noel turned to go to the nurse’s station to get someone to escort Jon in to see Akira. Pausing a moment she turned back to them. “Jon her injuries were not as severe as they could have been but I do not want her left alone when she leaves here tomorrow. Does she have someone she can stay with?” 

     Nodding as he spoke, “She will be staying with me. I will not let her stay where she has been staying it is dangerous enough without the threat of someone purposely trying to kill her. I promise she will not be happy but I will go all Alpha and dominant on her if I have to.” 

     “Yeah you let me know how that goes for you. Even I can tell she is going to be Alpha female.” Chuckling as she turned and went to the nurse’s station. A few minutes later a nurse escorted Jon in to see Akira. When his gaze finally fell on her he was scared to death he was going to lose her.  

     His panther was howling in grief wanting nothing more than to take his Mate into his embrace. As Jon took a steadying breath he sat down beside her bed. Carefully he took her hand into his and spoke softly to her, “Oh Cara I promise I will not let anyone touch you again. I am going to take such good care of you. I know you are scared but you have to trust me to help you.” Gently he pressed a kiss to her hand and watched her as she slept. The monitors showed her vitals were stable but he could not stop the fear of losing her from creeping in. His time was way too short for his liking. 

     Several hours later Akira was placed in a private room as per Jon’s request. The moment they had her settled Jon and Cam moved to her bedside. Once again Jon took her hand and held it as she drifted in and out of consciousness. The way Akira whimpered and cried out in her sleep broke Jon’s heart. Cam put his hand on his friend’s shoulder. “We will protect her. I am going to go get her belongings from that motel and put them at your place. We should also think about bringing the leap and the pride to help protect her. I do not like how this feels it still has my gut churning. And you should think about going home to get some rest.” 

     “You are right we need to contact them. Will you do that for me? I do not want to leave her side right now. I need to protect her and be here when she wakes fully. Something tells me she is going to be hell on wheels.” Jon’s gaze did not leave Akira’s features as Cam left the room to head out to do what needed to be done.  

     It was getting late and Jon was tired so he drifted off to sleep not long after Cam had left. Every time the nursing staff came in to check on Akira he snapped awake to make sure she was alright and no one was going to harm his beloved Mate. After a restless night Jon went to clean up in the bathroom hoping to be finished before she woke up. Unfortunately for Jon that did not happen because Akira woke up screaming.  

     Rushing out of the bathroom he got to her just in enough time to stop her from trying to rip out her IV. Carefully he grabbed her hands as he spoke to her in a soothing tone, “It is ok cara. You are fine I promise. Lay back and rest some more.” Gently he continued to hold her hands as the staff came running to check on her. “Is she alright?” 

     “Yes sir it seems to be a panic attack and it is normal considering what she has gone through. Miss Raleigh you are in the hospital. Do you remember what happened?” Calmly the nurse continued to check the various instruments and their attached lines to Akira to make sure she did not knock them loose. 

     “Hospital?” Finally she settled down and looked around panic in her beautiful eyes. “I was shot. I remember now.” Then suddenly she started to try and get free again even though Jon had her hands still. “Let me up I have to go. I have to run or they will kill me! Jon get me out of her now!” The nurse wasted no time in pushing through some of the anxiety medicine into her IV port. “Miss Raleigh you need stay calm or you will do more damage. Mr. Jacoby you need to try and keep her calm. Dr. Simons will be in soon to check on her and will decide then if she can be released or not.” On that note the nurse left the room leaving the two alone. 

     As the medicine took effect Akira settled down some dozing in and out again. Jon let out a soft worried sounding sigh as he sat with her. About an hour later Cam came sauntering in. “Hey Jon how is she doing. Man you look like hell good thing I brought you some coffee.” Cam handed him the coffee as he took a seat. 

     “She woke up screaming they had to give her something for the anxiety so she’s drifting in and out of consciousness again. Though her vitals are strong and stable thank God.” Jon accepted the coffee and took a sip of it relishing in the taste like it was life giving. “Did you get her belongings from the motel and contact the leap and the pride?” 

     “Yeah. Daelin said he will come over this afternoon and talk to you. The leap is on high alert and has begun taking shifts to guard outside the hospital and will continue to do so once we get her back to your place. Jon I am going to stay with you to help protect her and I had Sue reschedule everything that was possible to reschedule and the rest is being handled by a few others in the firm.” Cam watched Akira as she whimpered in her sleep. 

     “Thank you Cam. I would bet Daelin will be wanting to stay for a bit too until we figure this out. Perhaps that is a good thing though I do not wish to take him from the pride. She has not rested easy at all even with the medication she has been receiving. I am worried Cam I cannot lose her.” The look on Jon’s face told a story that Cam knew all too well.  

     Slowly Akira came to again. Before she could freak out again Jon moved to sit on the side of the bed and gently brushed her dark brown hair back. “Akira you are safe please do not get upset again.” The warmth of his touch made her turn her cheek into his gentle touch. “Jon I hurt so bad. But I can’t stay here. Please let me go.” Her eyes finally fluttered open so she could see him. The fear in her eyes made his panther howl once more. 

     “I know you do cara. I will take you home when your doctor releases you. Cam and I are going to protect you.” Cam chose that moment to move in next to Jon and smile at her. “Yes we are. But Akira we need to know what is going on so we can protect you fully.” Cam’s words brought her gaze to him. “I cannot tell you. I have to go so you will be safe Jon.” Her gaze moved back to Jon pleading with him. 

     “No cara you are not going anywhere. I just found you and I am not letting you go. No one is going to hurt you I will not allow it. Rest sweetheart and I will take you home soon. But know that when we get home you will tell us what is going on.” The tone of his voice was stern but the compassion and love that shown in his eyes made her heart ache because she knew she had to leave him to protect him.
