Chapter twenty five - There's no going back

The next morning

I woke up early today, well, can you blame me, it's really uncomfortable here. I walk out of the tent to stretch myself.
Like it or not, the forest looks spectacular. With the sun trying it's best to push it's way through the trees, which makes it look soo shiny.
I walk back inside the tent because it's really cold outside. The wind is blowing the trees so fast. I can't take a risk of catching a cold now. Not when I don't have any person to attend to me. Star light is still sleeping soundly in the tent.
Awwwn! She looks so cute when she's sleeping. The view almost made me forget that I'm away from my beloved ones. Thinking about them, I pick up my phone and switch it on. I haven't picked it up since yesterday, when my Mom called.
"Sorry Mom" I whisper as I wait for the phone to finish rebooting.
As soon as it's all switched on, massages start buzzing into the phone one after the other. It took almost ten minutes for them to stop coming in. It's 100 massages all in all and I'm sure they're from my parents and friends, doctor Carolina and Martha.
'Should I read them or not?' I ask myself.
Maybe I should.
I dial on the massage inbox and click on the first massage which is from my mother. Poor mom, I'm sure she couldn't sleep a bit last night. It reads
"Please dear, I beg you to switch on your phone, you know I can't leave without you. Please come back for my sake".
"I wish I could do that mom" I say as tears roll on my cheek.
I'm sure she's extremely worried right now, but it will all pass with time, I hope.
I scroll through all her massages and she's all begging me to come back to them. Then the next is my father's.
In one of his massages, he says.
"My daughter, if you're in any kind of danger, please tell us. Just switch on your phone and we'll use it's GPS tracker to find you my girl" he wrote.
What the hell, I've even forgotten that my phone has a GPS tracker. I quickly go to the phone settings and switched it off. I really pray that they don't find me.
Then I see a message from Carly as well.
"Katrina, where are you?".
"I've seen your massage, please tell us where are if you received this massage, we are all worried sick about you most especially your Mom, please come back" she pleads.
I burst out into tears. I can't take it anymore. I want to go back but I can't. I wouldn't risk their life for mine. I decide to continue checking the massages.
The next one is Martha's massage.
"Hey girl, your parents came by earlier to check if you're at my house but I told them you are not, I saw your massage earlier and I don't understand a s**t you're saying, by the way where are you?" she wrote.
I keep the phone aside and start thinking of the situation my family and I will be in now.
"What is wrong?" Star light asks.
I just keep on crying without answering her.
"Tell me" she says and walks to sit besides me.
"It's my parents, I don't know what to do now, I'm really worried about them and I'm not sure about my life anymore" I say while crying.
"Do you want to go back?" she asks.
"Nooo! I can't do that, I would never risk their life for mine" I cry out.
"But you gotta do something about it" she says.
"I don't know what to do but there's one thing I'm sure of, that I'm not going back to them until everything is back to normal" I say with absolute clarity and determination.
"OK, have it your way" she finally gives up.
"You know what will take your mind off things" she says.
"Let's go and find some fruits in the forest" she says excitedly.
"Yeah, let's go and find something to eat, we can't only survive on these little food that I packed" I say and get up.
Before going out, I switch off my phone again and throw it inside my bag. When I walk outside, star light is already way ahead of me. I run toward her because I don't want to get lost in here. This will get my mind of things for a while, I hope.

It's been days since I came back from Port's ville but I still haven't heard any news from him so far, so I decided to give him a call after I have finish dealing with the pack's issues.
Things are going pretty chaotic here. I always have to set things right a day or the other. My pack's still worried about that attack, so am I.
Here I am now, in my bedroom. I want to have some rest for the rest of the day. That is if I'm not disturbed again.
I pick up my phone and dial Alpha Gilbert's number. It rings for a while but he finally picks up.
"Good evening Sir, I was just planning to call you right now" he says as soon as he picks up the call.
"Well, that's not necessary now since I called" I say.
"Now straight to business, what's the update?" I ask.
"About that Sir, the man has found out about the girl's new number but it's out of reach right now as well, so it's difficult to track her down" she says.
Fuck! I'm this close to getting over with this attack issue but it looks like the girl wants to give me a hard time.
"So what have you decided to do now?" I ask in annoyance.
"Well, for now, we have just tapped her phone using her information that the man gave us" he explains.
"How is that gonna help?" I ask.
"Well, we have technically diverted all her calls, now she won't receive any calls from anybody, we'll be the ones to be receiving the call" he says.
"OK" I nod.
He's starting to make sense.
"Then we'll investigate suspected calls and track the people, I'm sure they'll tell us where she is" he adds.
"OK, we can proceed with this plan for now, but one thing" I pause.
"I want her alive" I say with a lot of bitterness in my voice.
"OK Sir" he says.
"OK, I'll hang up now, but keep updating me in time" I say.
"I will Sir" he answers and I disconnect the phone.
I get up from my bed filled with hope now that I've heard a very concrete plan of luring her to us. I'm sure she'll never know what hit her.
I finally have the strength to take a bath, so I walk inside my bathroom. I strip off my clothes and step into the shower. I shower for almost an hour and it's really refreshing.
I walk out of the bathroom only to see my sister sitting on my bed. So much for wanting to be alone.
Thank goodness I didn't walk out of the bathroom naked today, I usually do that. What's the use of wearing a towel when you're he only one in the room and you have already seen your naked body during bath.
"Ahh! I've probably come at the wrong time, I'll come back later" she says and she gets off the bed.
"Nope, just sit, I'll go change in the bathroom" I stop her.
I walk over to my closet and pick up a pair of shirt and trouser and walk back into the bathroom to change.
After I've changed, I finally come out to attend to my sister.
"I'm really sorry for coming out of my room after I've promised you I won't" she apologizes.
"No, after all your room is next to mine so there's no reason to apologize" I say.
"What brings my sister here?" I asks as I sit besides her.
"I was just missing my brother and it seems like you have forgotten about me again" she says as she leans on my shoulder.
"I would never forget you, it's just that I was a bit busy today" I say while patting her head.
"What work?" she asks.
"The usual" I say.
"You mean you are still investigating on that attack?" she asks.
"Yeah" I answer absentmindedly.
"Seriously?" she asks in amazement.
I tell her everything that I found out. Keeping a side that the suspect in question is my supposedly mate.
"I'm really proud to call you my brother" she says and hugs me tightly.
Yeah, I may be heartless sometimes but not with my sister.
