Chapter twenty eight - Sick today

I woke up with a very high fever today. My body's so hot that I'm sure it's more than 40°c right now. I bet you can even fry an egg on it. Since that horrible nightmare that I had yesterday night, it had been hard for me to even close my eyelids without seeing that horrible scene. It's eating the life out of me, literally.
"Hey, you okay?" Star light asks.
I bet she has noticed that I'm shivering as well. I try to get up but all my bones have turned to jellies. She comes closer to me when she sees that I'm struggling to get up but I kept failing with every attempt.
"Oh goodness! Your body is so boiling hot" she says with so much concern.
I try to speak but my teeth keep chattering like utensils, preventing me from speaking.
"Is it because of that nightmare?" she asks.
I just nod my head because I know I can't say a word right now, even if I wanna.
"Ohh poor soul, don't you worry" she pauses to feel my temperature again.
"I think I can find some herbal plants in the forest that can subside the fever a bit" she adds.
Herbal medicine, yuk! I hate ingesting all those bitter plants. I want to stop her but it's already late. She has already walked out of the tent. I feel so weak to the bones right now.
When was the last time that I had fever like this one?, I can't remember and why does it have to take me down in the middle of an unknown forest. I keep thinking about the worst things possible that could happen to me in this condition. Like the evil people tracking me down, or I die because I have no medicine to take.
'Bring it together girl, you are not dying in the middle of a forest' my inner mind says.
My mind keeps wandering about till I finally fall into a stressful sleep.
"Hey, hey, wake up" I hear a voice whispering in my ear.
Now the fever has started hypnotizing me I see.
"Hey get up, I've gotten the plants" she says again.
Wait a minute, this voice sounds like star light's. I guess she's back from her herbal medicine hunt. So cats can be herbalists as well. I lazily open my eyes and stare at her like a dummy.
"Here" she says, showing me the plants that she brought for me.
"Try and get up" she adds.
"You should eat it all and if you can, you should swallow it, I'm supposed to boil it for you but because we don't have any fire source and enough water, you have to take it like that, it's the only alternative" she says.
I look at her with a disgusted face, as if I'm about to puke.
"What now?" she asks.
She hand me the plants but I shake my head.
"You don't want to take it?" she asks.
I nod my head.
"No, if you can't take this, then we have to take you to the hospital" she says.
"Nooo" I say in a weak voice.
This is the first time I have spoken since this morning.
"So take it now or else I'll have to take you to the hospital" she insists.
I manage to get up. Within ten minutes, I have eaten all that she has brought. If it means that my family will be safe if I take those bitter plants, then so be it.
"Now that's more like it, I can't just let you be when you're sick like that" she says.
"Now you can lie down, the fever will subside in a while" she says.
She helps me go back to my laying position.
"Ohh! I almost forgot, let me go and get you a damp cloth, it will help subside the fever too" she says.
"Thanks" I say to her.
She just looks at me and walk out with a piece of cloth in her mouth. I really do hope that there is a water source around this place. We are running out of water and food as it is.

Adrien
As soon as I walk inside the mansion, I head upstairs to my sister's bedroom. I knock at her door.
"Who's there?" she asks.
"It's me, Adrien" I answer.
"Oh sorry, just hang on a sec" she says.
She opens the door after about two minutes.
"Sorry for making you wait" she apologizes as soon as she opens the door.
"Nope, I presume that you just got out of a shower?" I ask.
"Yeah, please come in" she invites me in.
I walk past her and enter the room. She closes the door before turning to face me.
"You're back so early, is the meeting over yet?" she asks.
"No, I just ditched them" I answer.
"Whattt? That's bad" she says in shock.
"Oh come on, I'm just joking, we have finished the meeting not long ago" I say.
"Since when did you start joking with people?" she asks, after we are all sitted.
"Since the time my little sister become so moody" I answer.
"Now stop pulling my leg, I was just going through a bad phase that's all" she says.
"So tell me all about the meeting" she says, changing the topic.
I told her everything that has happened during the meeting, leaving no detail.
"I feel so happy for Harry, he really does deserve to be our Beta" she says.
"And you said that Marcus is the new leader of the vampire sect, right?" she asks.
I nod my head.
"I'm really glad that you made him take over his brother" she says and I can feel the glimpse of sadness in her voice.
"Actually, I wasn't the one who chose him, it's the sect" I say.
"Well, he deserved it" she says happily.
I see she's really adjusting to her no mate life even better than I.
"Remind me to call him later and congratulate him" she says.
"OK I will" I answer.
"I'm just glad that everything is going back to normal, just like it was before" I say.
"No, not everything, the murderers are still out there roaming around freely, and I won't rest until they are all gone" she says bitterly.
"You don't have to worry about that now, we are almost close to them now" I assure her.
"How?" she asks confusedly.
"Let me call Alpha Gilbert and find about the progress that we have" I say.
I bring out my phone and dial Alpha Gilbert's number.
"Good afternoon Sir" he says as soon as he picks up the call.
I put the phone on hands free before speaking, so that my sister can hear the conversation as well. I hope that he will not bring up the mate issue now.
"Afternoon" I answer.
"I was just about to call you and give you the update" he says.
"And it's a very good news" he adds.
"Did you find the girl?" I ask eagerly.
I look up at my sister to see her expression but I didn't see any change in her face.
Phew! I hope she doesn't question the way I ask about the girl.
"No, it seems like she's out of town but...".
"But what?" I ask impatiently.
"Two of her closest friends, from what we have presumed. They have been calling her for the past few days" he says.
"What about that?" I ask because I don't understand a s**t he's saying.
"Well, the news is that we have finally managed to track them down and luckily, one of them is a student in Port's ville college, and we are sure she knows about her friend's plans" he says.
"That's great, just bring them in and remember" I pause a little to absorb the good news.
"I need them alive" I add.
"Not to worry Sir, I've just sent some of my pack members to bring them to me, so don't worry, we'll force them to reveal where their friend is" he says.
"OK thanks" I say.
"I'm honoured, Sir" he says.
"Uhmm Sir, I gotta go, Natasha is looking for me" he says.
"OK send my regards to her and tell her I said she should take care of you just like that day" I say, teasing him.
He just didn't say anything and hang up. I'm sure he remembers what happened. And wait a minute, something is wrong with me today. I keep joking and teasing people. That's not me. But truth to be told, I just feel so happy today. It's like as if something precious is coming my way soon.
"So?" my sister asks.
I know she's just waiting for an explanation for the conversation I just had with Alpha Gilbert. I tell her every detail about what we have intended to do to lure our enemies into our trap.
"That's great, I hope that this will all be over before the full moon passes" she says.
"Yeah me too" I say.
"OK, let me go freshen up, we'll meet for dinner, right?" I ask her.
"Yeah, I'll join you" she says.
I walk out of the room and head to my room. Today is a very special day to me. I keep receiving good news today.

I woke up late in the evening. I finally got some sleep after taking the plants that star light brought. Luckily, the fever has subsided when I touch my body. I'm just feeling a little weak.
"Finally you're awake" star light says as she walks close to me.
"Yeah" I answer weakly.
"So how are you feeling now?" she asks.
"I'm feeling better but my mouth is still bitter" I complain.
"But you're strong now, that's all that matter" she says.
"Yeah, I guess" I say.
As soon as I feel that I'm strong enough, I start packing my things.
"What is this you're doing?" she asks.
"I'm leaving" I answer.
"Thank goodness you've finally realized that nothing will change because you left home" she says and gets up.
"No, I'm not going back home, we are moving anywhere but not here" I say.
"Why?" I ask.
"In my dream, we were attacked in this place, so I don't want anything like that to happen" I say.
"Oh! Don't be so silly, nothing like that will happen" she assures.
"No, I won't take any chances" I refuse.
"OK, we'll leave but let's leave till tomorrow, it's already dark" she says.
I check outside and she's right, it's dark.
"OK, we'll leave tomorrow" I give in.
"Here's some food, I've made it especially for you" she says.
"Thanks" I say.
I collect the food and start eating silently. I can't wait for tomorrow to come. I want to get out of here as soon as possible.
