Chapter 13 Run

1256 Words
I am running as fast as I can dodging people, wolves, trees, rocks. I can feel my heart racing, as the rage is dying down and the panic starts to rise. I could have killed her, then Jax, Marissa, Claire, and everyone else would know that I am a killer. They wouldn’t understand that I was only trying to protect Marissa and when the girl put her hands on me, Bellona thought that she was being challenged. They would hate me and most likely banish or kill me.  Now only trees are blurring past me, I must be past the pack town now and in the woods. I start to slow down to a jog and gather my senses. The trees and my surroundings become clearer. I also hear another wolf running behind me, I raise my snout and smell the air. It is Jax, he must have followed me no doubt. I slow to walk, so I can collect and cool myself before he arrives. He is at least a mile away from me.  I sit down still in my wolf form and wait for him to arrive. He trots up to where I am sitting and sits beside me, panting. We sit here comfortably for a while until he nuzzles my neck and gets up. He starts to trot off back towards his house I am guessing. He turns around and yips at me. I get up and follow him quietly. He really needs to learn to be more agile, His steps are loud where as mine hit the ground quietly. However, it takes a lot of patience to learn to be silent. I only learned to do so when I had to. In order to eat sometimes he would let me out in a big fenced in area that had some deer in it and for fun he would put a few starving wolves in it too on the other side. The first couple of times he did this, I was loud and noisy like them and would scare off the deer. Then once the deer was finally dead, we would all fight to the death. Of course, I always won because even if I was close to losing, they had huge towers with some of the guards watching and they would kill them anyways with a sliver bullet and then one would shoot me with a tanq dart, and I would also miss the meal. I learned that if I was quiet and tracked the deer, kill it first, then let them find it. They would kill each other till there was one left and I would finish that one off and eat. However, this only happened every 4 months if he was in a good mood and wanted to watch a “sport”.  We finally reach his house and he led to the back where there is a doggy door. I hear Bellona laughing hysterically in my head. Which makes me chuckle too except when you’re in wolf form it comes out as a loud purring sound. He looks at me with amusement in his eyes and chuckles also. We make it inside where Kai is waiting. He looks at both of us and says, “Your bedroom doors are open, so you can change in there.”  Jax and I both nod at him.  We both head up the stairs to our rooms. Once I make it in my room, I push the door shut and start to shift back. Shifting back takes me a little longer since I am still not healed all the way and not riled up. I finish getting dressed and I hear a knock on the door. “Can I come in?” Jax asked through the closed door. “Yes” I reply. He opens the door and comes in and sits on the bed, he pats the spot next to him. I sit down next to him and say, “I am sorry for what I did.” “It is alright, she deserved it to be honest.” He says. I look at him questioningly. How can he think such a thing about one of his pack members? I think to myself. He sighs and tells me, “Everyone knows that they are not allowed to come to my house right now without my permission.  She has also been hateful to Marissa since her brother and Marissa’s mate died.  Ashley does not like the fact that Marissa is human and blames her brother’s death on her being human. She also should have not touched you. Hopefully you put her in her place.” “How do you know she touched me?” I ask him. “Marissa told me. I am sorry for not coming in right away, Ansel stopped me to ask a question.” He tells me. “It is alright, you are a powerful Alpha, who his people need. I will be okay without around all the time.”  I tell him sternly but with a slight smile on my face, so he knows I am serious but not mad.  “I know you don’t need me around all the time, but Hercules and I both want to be close to you. We know that you are incredible strong, smart, beautiful, and can take care of yourself. However, we have a desire to protect, love, care, and be there for you. When you are ready, I want to spoil you and show you so many amazing things.” He tells me with love in his eyes. “How would you like to meet the pack next week at breakfast?” he asks me with concern on his face. I know he need this. Marissa told me that every Sunday they go out behind his house and set up all the picnic tables and have a huge pack breakfast. He does this to connect better with his pack members and they can connect better with him. She said that after his father passed, he felt so alone and was in a deep depression for months, it wasn’t until one day he noticed that his pack was suffering too. That’s when he decided that he would do the Sunday breakfast. He also trains with them three times a week and picks out someone to exercise with him and to do patrols with him that week. He does this to connect with each pack member on a personal level. He also has Kai do this too, so that way Kai is close to everyone too. He hasn’t been doing this since I arrived. I do not know what he told the pack, but it is also probably why they have been talking about me besides just curiosity. I look at him and say “Of course, I would love that.” He looks so relieved and excitedly says “I will make sure it will be perfect just for you darling.”  “Will Ashley be okay?” I ask worriedly as soon as thought crosses my mind. “She’s fine just a few bruises but her pride is hurt more than anything which is a good thing for her.” He says nonchalantly. “Now let’s go eats, I am sure you are hungry. I know I am. He says. We both get up and go to the kitchen.
