Kevi
Standing in front of the mirror I nervously checked my dress to see if there were any flaws, I knew I was acting silly but the fact that Aristide was going to see me had my tummy in knots. It was the night of Olympia’s rehearsal dinner and Carmen, Gabi and I were going, she really gave us no choice.
So here we were on Friday night trying on clothes and discarding them after finding a problem with them. Well only I did that Carmen and Gabi had long decided on what to wear but I was here trying on dresses as if this would be the last thing I wore. I could tell I was irritating my friends even though they would never come and tell me unless I got to crazy.
Finally I decided on a dress, Carmen did my makeup while Gabi handled my hair. After getting ready and locking up our apartments we took the elevator down, we were about to enter my car when a man dressed in a suit approached us. We were all confused until he told us that Olympia had sent him to pick us up.
He pointed to a limo parked in the visitors section of the parking lot that we had somehow missed in our hurry to get to the dinner. We followed him silently in awe as he opened the door for us and we entered the luxurious interior of the car.
The driver closed the door and entered the car and started to the drive but lowered the partition to tell us that we would arrive at the destination in approximately twenty minutes. After he rolled back the partition, I turned to Carmen and Gabi and squealed.
“I can’t believe Olympia would actually do this for us, I mean we’re friends but she’s not really known us for that long, you know she told me we’re sitting in the VIP area? I don’t know what that means but I think we’ll be seated near her and Aidon, because she said she’ll be able to see us from where she’s seated. After discussing a bit with Carmen and Gabi I realized the car had started slowing down, a few minutes we had completely stopped and the door was opened by the chauffeur.
As we stepped out I noticed some bright flashes going off, I looked at the direction where they came from. After adjusting my eyes to the poor lighting I saw security guards blocking the paparazzi from getting too close to the hotel where the dinner was being held. From the flashes going off I knew that they had gotten pretty clear shots of us, I cringed at the thought of my pictures being published in a gossip magazine or even on a blog, but I brushed the thought off there were real celebrities attending I’m sure the focus would be on them.
Olympia had already mentioned that we were handling her event and had even posted pictures of us together planning for the wedding, so I knew our presence wouldn’t be too much of a surprise. Besides she had basically given us free publicity, working on the wedding which was estimated to be part of the top ten most anticipated events of the year had gotten us a lot of attention and new customers.
I cut my thoughts of as we entered the lobby of the hotel, it had high crystal chandeliers and plush looking couches in front of an impressive looking aquarium. There were exotic looking flowers placed in flowerpots at strategic positions. The whole place screamed wealth but also had a homey, comfortable feel to it. We made our way to the reception desk where a friendly looking woman in her early twenties greeted us and showed us the direction to the banquet hall where the dinner was being held.
As we made our way to the banquet hall I asked Gabi if this was all her doing, she simply smiled and nodded her head, we entered the huge room. I nearly gasped if I thought the lobby was gorgeous then this room was enchanting, the chairs and tables had been decorated with expensive looking linens in the wedding colors.
The chairs had been decorated with royal blue while the tables were laid with a rich white linen cloth with a strip of gold at the edges. Each table had an assortment of golden and royal blue flowers as the center piece. Gabi had really outdone herself this was her best work so far, once again we were met by an usher.
This time a man wearing black slacks and a royal blue dress shirt with a golden sash that read ‘usher’. After looking at our invitations he led us to the middle of the room where I could see Olympia, Aidon and what I assume are their parents sat on the high table. I expected him to seat us at the table where the bridesmaids were sitting or other distant family member.
Those tables were pretty close to the high table, instead he pointed to a few empty seats on the high table and told us to sit down. I turned to call him back and tell him he’d made a mistake but then Olympia noticed us.
“Kevi, Carmen, and Gabi I am so glad you were able to make it, please take a seat. Aidon and I are so happy to see you guys here you’re the reason I’m not going mad and he doesn’t have to deal with a crazy fiancée.” As she was talking I could see Aidon smiling and looking at her with a look of mock exasperation as she went on and on about how everything was perfect. She mentioned everything from the staff to the decorations.
She even mentioned the weather! Finally after she was done with her excited chatter Aidon spoke to me. “Kevi, you’ve really done an incredible job with Olympia’s gown, she looks exquisite in it, can’t wait to see her in her wedding dress.” I blushed from his compliment as he went on to praise Gabi and Carmen for their work. It’s not that I don’t receive praise for my work but everything was so surreal when it came from people who have been surrounded by wealth and luxury all their life.
They grow up in designer clothes, eating meals prepared by gourmet chefs and going to events planned by companies whose works we could only admire from afar yet here they are complimenting us. When I first sat down at the table I easily picked out Olympia’s parents, she was a spitting image of her mother.
They had the same body type and hair though her mother had some streaks of gray in hers their other features were identical the only thing that was different was the color of her mother’s eyes they were a warm caramel brown. She and Aristide on the other hand had those shocking electric blue eyes in common. Just the thought of him was enough to make me nervous and want to rush to the bathroom to check my makeup and dress where okay but I squashed the urge.
His father as cliché as it sounds, looks like an older version of Aristide, he was tall, had the same dark hair and sharp facial features even though they had been softened somewhat with age. He also had laugh lines and a kind of warmth in his eyes with showed he was happy with his life. But apart from all of those it was his eyes that gave him away to me, they were the same electric blue as his children.
Overall they were a beautiful couple, it was clear to see where Olympia and Aristide got their looks from. They looked really great for their age obviously there were a lot of good genes in the family, their attractiveness had definitely passed on to the next generation of their family. Aidon’s parents were a bit harder to recognize, he was a perfect blend of his two attractive parents he had his father’s height and lean muscular body but his mother’s hair, eyes and facial features. I noticed three men all looking around Aidon’s age looking at us with a lot of interest.
Especially me after Aidon had mentioned my name, it was as if they were intrigued by me and were waiting for something to happen. They were very attractive in different ways, the one introduced as Max barely talked and he seemed somewhat withdrawn and intense. This however didn’t distract from his appeal he had handsome feature like his dark hair and eyes. His beard and moustache which he kept neatly trimmed and close to his face also gave him a dark intense look. His dark eyes though they were expressionless right now looked as if they would shine if he smiled, though looking at him it seemed impossible he would ever smile. I had noticed Carmen occasionally sneaking looks of interest his way, the thought of a spitfire like Carmen with Mr. tall, dark and handsome was really comical but the serious look on her face was anything but playful.
The next friend was Liam, he was dripping with charm and his whole attitude screamed womanizer, he had smooth light black skin and like his friend he was incredibly attractive he had kept his hair short and close to his scalp, he had a very distracting smile that could confuse and make people forget what they were saying or doing. He was practically eye r****g Gabi since we walked in but she pretended not to notice.
The last friend Nikos, though he seemed nice made me nervous something told me he couldn’t be trusted, but who I to judge someone I barely knew. Especially if he had such loyal friends, he must be a good person I tried to reason with the part of myself that didn’t like him. Apart from being friends it was easily to see the similarities between them, they were all rich, extremely attractive men with sexy, hot accents.
Aidon, Nikos and Aristide had exotic Greek accents, Max was obviously Italian and his accent was noticeable when he spoke which was rarely, Liam had an English accent which showed he may have grown up in Britain. Their accents unlike most of the guys I’ve met didn’t sound forced and because they all had deep, masculine voices it just made it sexier.
As much as I wanted to deny it I was looking around for Aristide, there were two more empty seats at the table and I wondered where he was, my thoughts were interrupted as Aristide appeared at the table and he wasn’t alone. Hanging on his hand like a limpet was a stunning red head, she had a smile on her face like she had won the lottery.
It was clear from how her lips were swollen and how breathless she was they were engaging in a make out session before entering the room. I recognized her as the head bridesmaid, she seemed pretty angry when Olympia kicked Agnetha, Aidon’s cousin off the bridal team but held her tongue because Olympia would have probably kicked her off too.
The only reason she was even part of the bridal team was because she was a last minute replacement for Olympia’s college roommate who couldn’t come to the wedding because of the sudden loss of her mother. She was apparently distantly related to Aidon by marriage but according to their culture she was family so she could qualify as a representative of Aidon’s family in the bridal team. I
The same way Aristide represented Olympia’s family among the groomsmen, I could see looks of disappointment going back and forth between Aristide and his father until he finally apologized. “I’m sorry, Sada and I got distracted,” he finished with a nervous chuckle, so that’s her name I thought. They were about to be seated until Sada uttered some words that nearly ruined the evening for me.
“What is the fat designer doing here? I understand the chef being here to check on her meals and the planner to be here to check that everything runs smoothly though it’s odd they are sitting down instead of working. But what is the fat designer doing here?
She’s finished the job unless she thinks her dress is so inferior to good, quality real designer dresses she thinks it will rip right in the middle of dinner and she has to sew it here again.” She finished her malicious words with an evil smirk before sitting down next to Aristide. The table was silent after her shocking words, until her insults sunk in and all hell broke loose.
