-Ella
"Excuse me?" The man replied.
"It's you," she whispered and this time it hit me like cold water. That must be her mate. He is quite handsome, I might add. He is indeed human. I don't feel the presence of a wolf from him.
"Uhm, do we know each other?" He asked and that made it all clear to me, why he did not talk to Kate.
Maybe I should interfere.
"Hello, my name is Ella. This is my friend, Kate. She was at the dentist this morning and is not feeling well," I shrugged apologetically.
"Oh . . . been there," he nodded.
"Here, let me help you up."
He grabbed Kate by her hands and he immediately froze in place, as they locked eyes.
Geez, this is getting awkward.
"I am Kade," he introduced himself to Kate.
"I am Kate," she answered and they both laughed.
That is a weird coincidence, but I have to admit - they look so great together. It's like two missing puzzle pieces just got connected and became one. I have never seen someone find their mate, the process behind it . . . I never knew how it worked. My sister, Danielle, has explained to me what she felt when she met Matt, but I could not visualize it. Well, not until now. But Kade is human, so I don't know if this is the same as meeting your werewolf mate.
"Would you like to join me for coffee?" He asked her and I was about to interfere again, but maybe I should let her enjoy this time with him. It is 1:06pm and we cannot stay long.
"Yes, I'd love to."
"Tell me Kate, where are you from?"
I disconnected myself from their conversation to give them some privacy and proceeded to the next free table.
It is indeed getting late and we have to be back by 2pm otherwise it will get too late for us to get ready. As if my mother had read my mind, she called me.
"Hi mom. I am at 'Morning Café' with Kate."
"Sweetheart, it is getting late. When are you going to get ready? What about Kate? You have to do your hair and makeup and . . . "
"Mom, calm down please. We are just having a coffee and we will be on our way."
"Don't be late, Ella. I am not tolerating today."
I sighed in exhaustion and just said "Yes," to get her off my back. I cannot tell her that Kate has found her mate. It's not my place.
"See you at 2," she said, which sounded like an order and hung up.
The waitress with my coffee just arrived and put it on the table.
"Should I let this coffee here too?" She asked me and I explained to her, that Kate was sitting two tables behind her.
Kate was laughing the whole time and touching Kade's arm, in a charming way. I wonder if she will tell him about us, about werewolves and our mates. I hope he takes it well, if she does.
Sitting all by myself, I start to think about what my life will be, when I find my mate. I never thought about it in detail, but seeing Kate here with her mate, it makes me wonder if my mate will be human, or a werewolf, or maybe a vampire? God, I hope not.
I try to think what my mate will look like. Closing my eyes, I give in to my imagination.
A tall, muscular man, with short brown hair and brown eyes, stares back at me and smiles, revealing pearl white teeth and the most beautiful smile ever. He offers me his hand and brings me close to his warm body. I can even smell his intoxicating scent. It smells of jasmine, caramel and freshly cut grass. His hands are all over me, feeling me, protecting me, claiming me.
I suddenly open my eyes and realize that Kate is shaking me.
"Ella, we have to go. It's 2pm. Come on."
"What?" I just closed my eyes! When did the time pass?
"We have to go. Your mother has called me like six times. We must go."
"s**t. She is going to kill us both."
"Yes she is. Let's go."
I stood up and as I walked towards the stairs, I noticed Kate was holding hands with Kade.
"Are you coming with us?" I asked out of the blue.
"Yes. Kate invited me to your sister's wedding. I hope that is not a problem."
"Really? Kate did that?"
"He is my boyfriend now, so yes."
Oh hell. That took me by surprise.
Should I say something? What can I say? I am at a loss for words right now.
"We should get you something to wear."
"I have a suit at my place. It's not far from here."
"How long does it take for us to get there by car?"
"Less then five minutes. My car is just outside."
"Perfect, let us go together. Ella, we will meet you at your house."
"Kate, what . .?"
"Go!" She ordered and it seems like she wants to spend some time with him, alone.
They just met, he became her boyfriend and now they are leaving together to his house . . . I am literally worried about her. I hope this goes well, if she tells him about us.
Kate and Kade rushed outside and I took a little bit longer to walk down the stairs. Once I stepped outside, Ray looked confused and I just shook my head, letting him know that I am not in the mood for talking right now.
"Where are we headed, miss?"
"Home, Ray. Please make it quick and if my mother asks what took so long, tell her we were stuck in traffic."
He didn't seem to agree with my plan, but he nodded anyway. I wonder how my mother would react if I told her the truth, about why Kate and I came here today. Would she be understanding?
Ray's driving is impeccable. We arrived home in less than twenty minutes. But honestly, this kind of driving is not for the fainthearted.
"Thank you, Ray. You're a lifesaver."
"You are welcome, Miss."
I rushed outside and went straight inside, leaving my stuff in the car. Lola opened the door for me and when I got inside, I noticed the crazy amount of people that were gathered in our hall. I looked back and that is when I became aware of the amount of cars outside.
"Ella, you're finally here. Come on, you have to get dressed," my aunt Lori grabbed my hand and pulled me through this crowd.
"Where is Kate? Why are you so late? Your mother had me wait by the door, to snap you as soon as you came in. It is getting late and you have only one hour and a half to get ready. Be glad I am here and have everything under control."
Geez, those were a lot of words. She kept talking, but I didn't listen to a word she said. My mind was on Kate. I hope everything is okay.
