Soul Exchange (Part 1) - May 6, 2027 0115

Death stood watching the events causing Kaitlyn’s death. The soul behind him still in a trance unseeing and unaffected by what was happening around her. The time of Kaitlyn’s death coincided directly with Anara’s death. This allowed for him to exchange their souls. Though Kaitlyn’s thread of life had been cut, Anara’s still hadn’t. Kaitlyn’s soul was moving towards him with a curious look on her face as she watched them work on her body. He led the newly dead soul to the path she needed to follow. With his duty to the dead soul of Kaitlyn complete, he led Anara’s soul to Kaitlyn’s body. He watched as the EMT worked to bring her back to life. They pulled the defibrillator paddles back and started CPR again. This was the moment of truth. He guided Anara’s soul to the body then laid her down in it. He backed away as the EMTs placed the paddles back to shock the body again. Death watched as her heart fluttered giving them hope. They quickly worked to repeat it. The shock hit Kaitlyn’s body again causing her heart to beat again. The heartbeat was soft and weak, but it steadied out slowly as she began breathing again. “That’s it Kait, fight girl, show death it’s not your time yet!” said Marc as he rejoiced at her returning heartbeat and breath. Her eyes opened and looked around with her eyes not focusing on anything for long. The EMTs were working to stop the bleeding of her head wound enough so they could bandage her head. The head wound Marc stayed close continuing to be encouraging to Kait as she slowly looked at him then to the EMTs when one said “Excuse us, sir. We need to get her to the hospital.” Marc backed up to let them lift her onto the gurney to put her in the back of the ambulance. Her eyes closed in the process. While she didn’t die again, she did go unconscious once more. Marc and Nadine wanted to go with her, but only one was allowed in the ambulance. Since Nadine had to stay to talk further to Mr. Maitland, Marc went with her to the hospital. Eddy drove the ambulance as Paul spoke with Marc while attending to Kaitlyn’s body. Death sat unseen by any of the others watching the events keeping watch to make sure the soul of Anara was securely placed within Kaitlyn’s body. Paul started recording information on a tablet before asking Marc for information on Kaitlyn. “It’s normal for them to go unconscious was we transport. Probably better that way for them. She’ll wake up again once she’s more stable,” Paul said as he tried to comfort Marc. He looked apologetic as he said “I need some information for the hospital records. Do you mind?” “No, no. It’s ok. I’ll tell you what I know,” Marc said. “What is her name?” “Kaitlyn Rose Dupre” “Do you know how old she is?” Paul asked then quickly added knowing how actresses and actors were about their age. “It is ok if you don’t. We can add that later.” “She’s twenty years old, not that she looks it without make-up ” Paul entered it into the tablet with a grin then continued down the questions. He said “Green eyes, red hair, pale fair complexion. Do you know her height and weight?” “I’m sorry I don’t. I know she’s not heavy. She’s at least six inches shorter than I am,” Marc said realizing how little he knew about his co-star. They had made other movies together. He’d had conversations with her, but never anything actually personal. He started to think. Who would know her well enough to answer the medical information? Paul was adding her vitals while he moved down the tablet. Finally, he spoke again “Do you know if she has any medical conditions?” “None that I know of,” Marc said. “Can I use my cell phone in here?” “Oh yes,” Paul said still working on monitoring her as he sends to and receives from the hospital. Marc used his phone to find Lavenia Thakor’s phone number. He decided that Kait’s agent probably knew most of the answers they needed. Calling her, he waited for her to answer. “Hello, Ms. Thakor? … Yes, you don’t know me. My name is Marc Hayes. I’m calling about Kaitlyn Dupre. … No, I’m in an ambulance with her. She was…” he paused to find a way to say this delicately. “She was in an accident. They need some personal information. … Hold on.” He looked to Paul before he said “Which hospital are we going to?” Paul looked at him as he said “Angel’s Hospital.” “Thank you,” said Marc then back on the phone. “Angel’s Hospital. .. Do you know if she has any medical conditions? … No, ok good. Let me see if there is anything else they need to know before getting to the hospital.” He looked to Paul who was finishing some updates. Paul looked at him and shook his head as he said “Everything else can wait. We are almost there.” “Ok, that is all for now. The rest can be filled in at the hospital. We are almost there,” Marc said to Lavenia. “Ok, bye.” Death watched as Kaitlyn’s body flatlined once more. He knew this was normal.  When soul swaps happened, there were usually a few bumps as the new soul got settled.  Usually, the body was much younger and in utero, but occasionally it was after birth.  He made sure Anara’s soul stayed where he put it as Paul worked to bring Kaitlyn’s body back. “Come on Kait, keep fighting,” Marc said in almost a whispered hope. “We aren’t going to let her go easily,” Paul said as he pulled the paddles off her and watched her heartbeat start again and stabilized. “There you go, Kait. Keep fighting. We will keep helping you.” At that point, the ambulance came to a stop at the hospital bay. Eddy came around to open the doors. Marc jumped out before Eddy and Paul moved the gurney out and into the hospital. Marc was ushered to the admittance desk. Death appeared in the room where they took the gurney. He watched as they moved her to a stretcher then transferred all her monitoring wires. When they all left, Death walked to her side and touched her forehead. “It’s done,” he said softly. “I’ll see you soon, Anara.”
