Chapter 19.
"It's obvious you are going to take an eternity to arrive here. If that's the case, you should let me know so that I can start building a place to stay in."
Kenji stared at the message with twitched lips.
He pressed the send button as he waited for Amaya's reply. According to him, this should have been done a long time ago.
Finding those documents should have been her first task before anything else.
They had been able to talk through texts and calls since she left for the Blackwood pack.
She hasn't been giving him any resourceful information. So, he insisted that they meet since he was running out of time and couldn't wait any longer.
The earliest he got what he wanted, the better for everyone. Alpha Tobias wasn't a stupid man.
A man who single-handedly wiped out an entire pack with no one to question him wasn't someone to mess around with. He knew that for a fact.
"You say like it's easy to leave Blackwood pack on a normal day?" Amaya fired a response to Kenji.
She had spent the entire night thinking of a perfect excuse she would give to Kazumi or Alpha Tobias to leave the pack to see Kenji.
She couldn't leave without their permission. A great punishment surely awaited her after she returned.
However, it seemed that she had no option but to take the punishment.
No one was present in the Alpha's house. Hiro, who used to be at home, was not.
Talking about Hiro, her cheeks flushed when she thought about him. She hasn't been able to take him off her mind.
Despite her attempts to get him off her mind, he seemed to be glued to it. She doubted if he also thought about her like that.
'Snap out of it, Amaya.' She gently slapped her cheek.
She was already dressed and ready to leave. Since there was no one at home to get permission from, it was better she left and came back early before anything happened.
She stepped out of the main building and slowly banned the door behind her.
She vividly stared at the opened courtyard in front of the house. A few pulps were in the courtyard. They were playing as usual.
Most of them were playing football, while others were behind each other and laughing.
A sharp sting pierced her heart when she thought about her pack.
Her pack used to be like this. Wintermoon used to be like this, but not anymore.
She wasn't backing down. She had to do this.
She brought the hood of her jacket over her white hair. She made sure that all the hair was lost in the hood.
She stuck her hands in her pocket. With her head down. She marched out of the pack.
It would have been a long ride if Kenji hadn't agreed to walk the extra road.
They were to meet at the forest that separated most packs from the Blackwood pack.
It was a dense forest. A path dangerous to travel on. But she wasn't scared.
Almost at the location they had chosen, Amaya pressed her back against a tall iroko tree. She also pressed the back of her head against the tree and looked up. She was exhausted from walking and had to take some rest.
After a few seconds, she took out her phone from her hoodie pockets and brought it up to her face.
"Where are you? Already at the location." She asked Kenji through a text.
"Right behind you." His heavy voice almost startled Amaya.
" You could have just texted rather than trying to scare me off like that." She rolled her eyes as she turned to face him.
Her gaze lingered on his body. She checked him out.
The guy that had saved her in the middle of death. Her eyes rested on the dark chain of tattoos around his neck. The tattoo hadn't changed from the first day she saw him.
But one question had always lingered in her mind after that day.
How did he know what was happening in her pack? He had come at the perfect time to rescue her.
Was he just passing by and overheard the chaos?
She shook her head as a deep breath left her lips.
"Looks like you still haven't gotten over me." Kenji bit back a muffled laugh. He walked and stood in front of Amaya. He extended his hand to touch her hair, but she dodged.
"Don't be too high of yourself." She snorted. She drifted back and leaned against the tree.
She didn't blame him. He was one hell of a handsome boy. So, he deserved the staring.
But again that's not why she was here in the first place. She had other important things to think about after this.
"Let's get down to business."
She immediately brought it up. Kenji scoffed and nodded.
"Of course." He cleared a spot next to him on the grass and sat on it.
"What did you get?" His tone came out serious and focused.
Amaya looked around the dense bush that surrounded them like she was scared that someone might overhear what she had to say.
She leaned closer to Kenji.
"The Luminous Spring has some documents that if you get your hands on it, the entire thing spring will be yours.
She had seen and heard a lot of things. Yet, she couldn't give out everything now. Giving out information to him would be slow.
But he knew about the document already. He just needed to get his hands on them. And she was the means to get them.
"Great. What else did you find?" Is Tobias death"
He stood up from the soil and cleaned the back of his pants.
Death! Amaya almost laughed.
It wouldn't be that easy to bring down Tobias
"Maybe you should come fight him yourself." She told him, looking at the road she came through.
She had to go back to the pack, to avoid getting into trouble, especially with Kazumi.
"I want more information, Amaya. You should be vigilant. More importantly, I need those documents before this month runs out."
"It might take longer than that." She glanced around and looked at him.
"I have to go." She started.
"I need every bit of information you can get from the Blackwood pack. I'm running out of patience."
Kenji told her. Amaya almost argued back, but then remembered that Kenji was the sole reason she was alive today.
She had to do everything within her power to get what he wanted, although it was going to take some time, but she would try.
"Fine, I will try my best."
"Great."
They waved each other goodbye and went their separate ways.
While on her way to Blackwood pack, something suddenly clicked in her head and she wanted to visit her pack.
What was this sudden change of mind? She questioned herself. But the urge was so strong that she found herself walking towards the Wintermoon pack.
