Chapter 17.
"So you finally made your way to the Luminous Spring?" Dana asked Amaya as she turned off the stove. She carried the pot and kept it on the kitchen island.
"Yes, I did," Amaya answered, bringing down the dishes from the kitchen counter. Dana paused, her hands around her waist, stared at Amaya with a look that said "I hope you know what you're doing."
"Be careful. We don't want Tobias to go around causing a mascara like the one he did before." She went back to doing what she was doing.
Amaya bit the inside of her mouth, her hands pressed tightly at the edge of the island. She knew exactly what Dana was talking about.
She didn't want anything like the mascara that happened eight years ago.
She silently agreed with that because it was about to happen in the Blackwood pack soon enough.
Amaya straightened up. And nodded at Dana.
She wanted to talk to someone about what she had witnessed in the spring, but she didn't know who. The scene kept playing in her head.
How she was rooted in one spot and the way those rogues were scorched right next to her. She wanted to ask questions, but she didn't know if she should trust Dana just yet.
She waved the thought off her head. If anything, she will find it out by herself.
After Dana was done dishing out the food, Amaya helped by taking it into the dining room.
Everyone came down by the time Amaya was done serving the food. Today, David had joined them.
The only exception was Hiro. He wasn't present at the dinner table. Amaya's mind flew back to what she had heard earlier.
Was he okay? From what she knew, he hadn't eaten anything and she hadn't seen him because Kazumi had warned her to stay away from him.
Amaya stood at the far end of the dining room watching as they ate with smiles on their faces like everything was okay.
"Why are they eating and acting as though all is well when Hiro isn't present with them?"
Amaya asked Dana, who widened her eyes at her. "Stay out of their business."
She told her and made her way into the kitchen.
She stood there, her hands folded across her chest wondering if she should take some food to Hiro.
However, she shook her head. She wasn't about to get into trouble. She just had to wait after everyone had eaten and left.
It was 8 pm. There was still some time for him to eat
"Why isn't Hiro present?"
Amaya looked up when she heard David ask. At least someone cared. "Or did he go to see that girl at the end of the pack?"
Huh? Amaya baited her lashes.
Did he have a girlfriend? Was she his mate? Is that why he hadn't approached her?
She lowered her head as worry laced through her.
Why was she even worried? None of these will matter in the end.
"You should go tell him to join us." Tobias lifted his head from his plate and looked in Amaya's direction.
"Okay." She nodded.
"I'm not interested."
Amaya stopped when she heard that familiar voice in her head.
Had he heard that? How? His room was further away from the living room, so how was that possible? Or was he around?
She quickly glanced around but there was no one.
She swallowed and looked at the table.
"He said he is not interested."
They all glanced at her with amused looks on their faces.
"You didn't even leave the room." Kazumi, who had been quiet, told her.
Well, he just mind-linked me, she bit back.
"I said, you should go tell Hiro to join us." Tobias shot back, with his nostrils flaring.
Just great.
Were they even aware that Hiro could pick distant voices? She wasn't so sure, but that was something she had come to notice. It was like he could pick distant voices and also notice when someone was in danger.
"Don't waste your time coming here. I'm interested in dining with them." Hiro barked through the mind link as Amaya stalked past the dinner room to his room.
She ignored his voice and proceeded to the corridor. Once she was out of sight, she took a few paces around the corridor, before going back to the dining room.
There was no need to insist that he come for dinner. That was the only thing she could pull.
"I'm sorry, Alpha. He still isn't coming " She slightly bowed her head.
"Okay." Tobias nodded.
She went back to her position. She glanced at the table and her eyes met Kazumi's who was staring at her like he wanted something from her.
She noticed that he had been doing a lot.
***
"What are you doing?" Dana asked Amaya from the sink where she was washing the dishes.
"Want to take some food to Hiro? He has barely eaten anything since morning."
She brought down the dishes from the counter and put them down on the kitchen Island when she started dishing food in it.
"Considerate to the extent of putting your life in danger?"
Dana wondered as she turned away from the plates.
"Meaning?" Amaya asked not to lift her head from what she was doing.
"Didn't you tell me that Kazumi told you he didn't want to see you close to Hiro again? "
Amaya Paused from closing the dish. "I don't care and besides he must be in his room right now."
"Just be careful then." She told her.
Amaya carried the food in the tray and stepped out.
She kept glancing around to make sure that no one saw her.
"Do you like me that much to disobey the Alpha?"
Hiro's voice bumped through Amaya's mind when she stood in front of his door.
That wasn't any news to her. "I know. Please open up."
In a few seconds, the door flew open and Hiro pulled her inside, such that the plate almost slipped off her hand, but he was kicked to keep her in place, before letting her go.
"That's the table over there." He pointed at the table before going to sit behind his desk.
Amaya timidly nodded. She walked to the table and placed the food on the table.
She stood next to it, her hands behind her back. She contemplated if she could ask the various questions that kept popping up in her mind.
She stared at him. But his gaze was focused on the screen in front of him. That scar on his face looked fresher than she had seen it.
That was one of the questions she wanted to ask but she could voice it out.
"What are you still standing there for?"
He lifted his head and glanced at her.
Amaya blinked.
"Ugg..." She stammered, glancing around the room.
"Do you want something else?" Hiro stood in front of her, Amaya stumbled behind, wondering how he had suddenly appeared in front of her.
"Ugg, no. But I will get going." She spun around to leave, but Hiro grabbed her wrist and turned her around so that she was facing him.
They were standing so close to each other that, such that, Amaya could feel his breath on her forehead since he was taller than her.
With his hand still holding her wrist, he lifted one hand to her hair. He gently walked his hand on it.
A wave of strong and burning emotions. Washed down Amaya's body.
She stood there, completely dumbfounded as a result of the new emotions.
She had never felt something like that before. Did he have some kind of magic in his hands?
"You have such smooth and soft hair." He brought his hand down from her hair and looked at her.
Amaya glanced up, but her eyes only reached his lips. She closed her eyes. His touch was still warm on her skin.
"Why did you dye your hair white?"
Huh? Amaya finally looked up at his eyes. Those bright blue eyes stared internally at her like she had to say only the truth.
"My hair has always been white." She shrugged.
"I see." Hiro chuckled. Amaya found the small sound too sexy not only that, but it sent a rush of heat between her legs.
She looked up and their eyes met.
"I...I -I need to go ." Amaya seizes her hand away from him.
She needed to leave before anything else.
She didn't trust herself to remain Saint in front of him.
She was just one minute away from placing her lips on his.
That was a dangerous move. She didn't come here for that
She came for revenge.
She came to take down the man who had destroyed her pack and her life. And now, she was in lo…
Love?
Amaya vividly shook her head as she entered her room.
There was no such thing as love. Not with her.
She couldn't do that. She couldn't betray her pack.
She needed to get justice for them, especially her parents and her younger brother.
That needed to be her top priority and not some who didn't recognize her as his mate.
She had even overheard that he had a girl at the end of the pack that he was seeing.
"You need to stop, Amaya. You need to stop."
She groaned and fell to the bed.
