Evelyns POV
The door opens and lets a small strip of light flood into the room. I slide deeper into the corner of my cage. It is hopeless because the cage is only about one meter by one meter big and I have to make myself small to fit in anyway. The door opens fully and someone steps in, to turn on the light. I hold my hands in front of my eyes to shield it from the blinding lights. I hear multiple groans around me. The whole room is filled with cages full of girls.
A second man enters the room, I don't know either one of them, but both of them are huge and probably dangerous. One of the two goes ahead and the second follows as he looks around carefully.
"These are all we have to choose from," says the first man. I'm sitting so that I can't really see them, but I hope they'll just walk past me.
“But they're not in particularly good shape,” says the second man.
"If you decide on one, we can of course negotiate the price."
Panic rises in me. This man is here to buy one of us. My heart rate increases and I feel my breath go faster. I can hardly breathe because I am wearing a collar that is much too tight. It's already constricting my breathing, but it wasn't that bad before.
"Calm down, Lyn, they will definitely choose another one," I hear Lias voice in my head. Lia is my wolf and, moreover the only family that I still have.
"I cannot."
"You have to, otherwise you will attract attention."
"I feel so much panic in this room that I get thirsty," says the second man. How disgusting is that? What a sadist he is, that it turns him on to cause fear. The two men come closer until they almost stop in front of my cage.
"Your heart is almost beating the loudest," says the second man and leans down to me. His lips twist into a nasty grin that shows his sharp canine teeth. I quickly lower my gaze, I've seen enough anyway to know that if he should choose me, my life is over anyway. Because this man is a vampire.
Please don't take me, I beg silently, gazing at the floor. Have I not had enough bad luck in my life?
"I'll take the little one," says the man, and my heart almost stops. No, no, no, that just can't happen.
"Lia!"
“I'm here Lyn, keep calm, we'll find a way to get away from him,” Lia comforts me. I can hardly imagine that, vampires are cruel and can run even faster than us werewolves. In addition to that, the species hate each other and would fight each other till death. Which makes my chances of survival almost zero.
The first man comes and opens my cage door, then he attaches a leash to my collar as if I were a mangy mutt and pulls me out of the cage. I haven't stood on my feet in so long that I have a little difficulty standing upright. Without paying any attention to me, the man pulls me along. We leave the room and go down a corridor and then into a room that reminds me of an office.
“Now about the price,” says the seller, “let's say 10,000.”
“Are you kidding me? I'm not just any guy. I'm the vampire prince.”
"Yes, yes of course, it wasn't my intention to upset you," says the other, ducking his head. Apparently I'm even more unlucky than expected, because it's not just any vampire, but the prince of the vampires. Everything I know about the royal vampires comes from horror stories. Because apparently they only became rulers because they are the cruelest vampires of all.
"I will only pay half the price, as skinny and ugly as she is," says the vampire prince.
"Of course, that seems a fair price to me," mumbles the other and quickly searches for a few documents.
I shiver slightly and see grey dots forming at the corner of my sight. I still can't breathe, but nobody here seems to care. I'm just wearing a thin, dirty dress that comes down to my knees. My feet are bare and I had the last proper shower three months ago. I don't really get what the two of them are talking about. I only really come to when the man roughly grabs me from behind and ties my arms behind my back. Then he grabs my leash and pulls me behind him. I am so desperate that one tear slips my control and runs down my cheeks. Now I have finally lost everything, not just my family and my freedom, but even my dignity. I let the disgusting man pull me behind him, but he walks so fast, that I can hardly follow without being dragged along. I learned early on that it wasn't worth it and that the men here are always the stronger ones. We reach the door and I see the light of day for the first time in three months. The sky is overcast and the day is drawing to a close. Nevertheless, I enjoy the fresh air and literally soak up the brief moment. Shortly afterwards, I'm pushed into the trunk of a big black car. The back door closes and everything is dark again. During the journey it rattles loudly and I keep being pushed back and forth in the trunk.
When we finally arrive I hit my head and arms countless times. With this nasty grin, the vampire opens the trunk and lifts me out without difficulty. He quickly sets me down and then wipes his hands clean on his pants.
Then he grabs the leash again and pulls me along. I hardly have time to look at my surroundings, but what I can see is that we are actually in front of a castle-like building. So the guy is actually a real prince. The building looks gloomy and uncomfortable. Not really my dream home. A few years ago I couldn't have imagined ending up here.
Sighing inwardly, I follow the disgusting man into the building before he can pull the leash again.
