In the dungeon

1393 Words
Lyn POV He doesn't pull on the leash like his brother did and he walks so slowly that I can follow without being pulled behind. We leave the hall and walk back through the endless corridors. Every now and then we meet servants hurrying through the corridors. As soon as they notice the prince, they make a hasty bow. What I didn't miss, however, are the whispered comments that follow. I can't quite understand what they're talking about, but apparently it's not nice. I only understand single words like human, ugly and slave. As we pass two servants again, I understand a coherent sentence for the first time. “A human, you see?” says one. "She won't survive here any longer than Louise?" "Do you mean the girl the king..." "Shut up," The Prince suddenly yells, turning to both of them so abruptly that I jump, startled. "Don't you have any respect for your prince? That you even dare…” he leaves the sentence unfinished, which is never a good sign. The two girls must have understood that too, because they sink into a deep curtsey and look down. "We're terribly sorry, Your Majesty," whispers one. "I can't quite believe you," says the prince and attacks the girl so quickly that no one can react. With an accelerated movement he c***s her head and bites her neck. She screams like crazy while the other girl begs wildly. The prince lets go of the girl and licks his lips. “If you were human you would be dead by now. So be thankful and if I ever find out again that someone is talking behind my back I will have you all killed. Are we clear?" "Yes sir," whispers the other girl, now holding the unconscious girl in her arms. Without looking back, he walks on, pulling me behind him. My legs are shaking with fear and I have trouble walking. Apparently the brothers are both as cruel as the stories tell. And if these stories are all true, then I'm as good as dead. We descend some stairs until my feet land on cold stone. Apparently we're in the basement now. "You're going to stay here until I know what I'm going to do with you," he says to me, opening one of the barred doors. He removes the collar and gently pushes me the last bit before closing the door. Once again I'm imprisoned. I sigh and let myself sink to the ground. At least they can't kill me while I'm here. It's been a while since I've stretched out fully, so I stretch out on the hard floor and roll onto my stomach. My stomach is growling, but since I'm used to not getting enough food, I don't worry about it. "Lia, what should we do now, we've ended up with the most cruel of all vampires and he won't let us go that easily." "We just have to be a little patient and then there will be an opportunity to run away," replies my wolf. It's kind of hard for me to imagine that here, in a castle full of vampires, there will ever be a chance to escape. Anyone here could kill me instantly, and until then I would wait in fear for my death. Do I really want to spend the rest of my probably short life in fear for my life. Always on the lookout for the two princes and the whispering servants. Don't I deserve to live a better life than this? I think so. At the moment I am restraint free and no one is watching me. At the moment I would still have the chance to end my life, then I would at least have chosen my fate myself. I look around searching. This little cell is made of stone and straw, nothing I could hurt myself with. I get up and feel the walls, and sure enough, I can get a little rock out of one corner. It's not particularly big or sharp, but I can make it that way. I lower myself back to the floor and start rubbing one side of the stone on the floor at an angle. I can only hope that someone doesn't come to check on me first. Suddenly a door opens farther away and footsteps approach. A tall, broad-built man with short blond hair approaches. He's holding a tray and coming towards me, keys jingling. While he unlocks the door, I move as far away from the door as I can. He raises his eyebrows slightly when he notices, but doesn't say anything. "I brought you food," he says instead. His soft voice echoes through the dungeon, but is not uncomfortable. When I make no move to take the tray from him, he takes another cautious step towards me and holds it out to me with his arm outstretched. "Please, you need to eat something to get your strength up," he says, looking at me pityingly. I look at him suspiciously. What if he's just waiting for an opportunity to kill me, or he wants to have s*x with me first. He could take me here and now and no one would notice or ever know. At the thought, a shiver runs down my spine and I shake myself slightly. He squats down next to me and keeps looking at me curiously. "I didn't even introduce myself properly," he says, stroking his short hair, "my name is Levis, what's your name?" I'm not entirely sure if it's a good idea to reply to him. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you," he interrupts my thoughts. While you can never trust the words of vampires, I don't get that feeling from him here. He actually seems nice, or he's just pretending and it's a trap. "Lyn," I say softly, before my courage fails me again. A smile spreads on his face, which immediately intimidates me again, since you can now clearly see his enlarged canines, but it's not a mean grin like this Jaromir always does. "Nice to meet you Lyn," he says as if I'm here voluntarily and like he's genuinely pleased to see me. He's probably already planning how to kill me. "Wouldn't you like to eat anything Lyn?" I keep looking at his beautiful face and try to read his intentions in it, but I can't make sense of him. "Well, I have to go, but please promise me to eat something," he says as if he were a troubled friend. I watch him as he gets up and closes the door behind him. Friend, I laugh inside, Friends don't lock each other up in jail cells. Now is my chance before Levis returns to check on me one more time. I pull the stone out from behind my back and check the sharpness of the edge again. "Don't do it Lyn, we'll find another way. Do you really want to die?" Lia asks angrily. "No, I don't want to, but what other option do we have?" “Don't you think the great goddess has a plan for us? She will be terribly disappointed." "I think the goddess lost sight of me a long time ago." I can understand their fears and I have them too, but I am determined to do it now before the chance to choose my own destiny slips away from me. I lift the stone to my arm and press it firmly against the thin skin of my wrist, then in one quick movement, before I can change my mind, I make a deep, long cut. It hurts like hell and I have to bite my tongue to keep from screaming. Then I take the stone in the other hand and repeat the procedure. The blood flows quickly and warmly over my hands. I lean my body against the wall behind me and stare at the bars. It's actually quite peaceful down here. The dirt down here must be thousands of years old and now I'm going to be a part of it. After a while, my eyelids get heavy and I hardly feel the pain anymore, but it increases in my head. I can barely stand up. "I'm sorry Lia, maybe we'll see each other again in the next life," I say to her without getting an answer.
