Five Years Later…
In Sunshine Hotel Convention Hall.
Delicious foods and aromatic wines filled every table in the hall. All guests were either chating in a corner or sitting on the table while clicking their glasses of wine.
The hall was lightened pleasantly and decorated with elegance and wealth. The flowers and balloons were bundled and tied into its designated corners with perfection and beauty.
The guests were not some random people. They were all directors who had worked with the company, their celebrities with their managers and assistants, and the Starmoon Entertainment employees.
This night was very special. It was held to celebrate the achievement of one of their artists and to announce the new ownership of the company. As for the latter reason, no one had an idea about it.
Because this banquet was known, there were a lot of reporters present in hope to get some explosive news.
"Where is the goddess of the night? I have not seen her shadow yet."
"Will there be some internal issues? How come she's not here?"
"Just wait any longer. Who knows she is just dolling herself up. After all, it's her limelight. She can't be inferior to others."
"Come on! She has been beautiful and elegant. There's no need to do much to make herself stand out from the crowd."
"Well, that's true. Oh—look, she's over there!"
All heads turned in the direction of the door. Right at the moment, a beautiful woman wearing a fabulous purple body-hugging mermaid gown walked in. Her eyes were sparkling with vitality as she held her head high and the smiles on her lips were so sweet and sincere, making everyone shriek in excitement.
A clatter of cameras taking pictures of the woman immediately overwhelmed the room. With some envious gazes and whispers around them.
"Ms. Alyssa Curtis, do you believe you are the most beautiful tonight?"
"Ms. Curtis, what do you feel about winning the Best Actress in the Golden Orchid Award?"
"Can you share your experiences behind your achievements?"
"Ms. Curtis, I heard that you used some underhanded methods to win the award? Is that true?"
Alyssa Curtis's smiles froze and her brow curved up elegantly. Although she wasn't saying anything yet, due to her gaze that turned sharp, everyone could see how the last question agitated her. Using a threatening tone, she asked, "What did you just say?"
"Miss Curtis, I am not trying to embarrass you. The question I asked earlier is the news that has spread out to the entire world recently. So we reporters have the right to know the truth. Since it's not only about your reputation, but also about the reputation of the board of judges behind the scenes of the awards. We want to know the truth. Right, everyone?"
"Yes! Yes!"
"Ms. Curtis, we received some anonymous news that you have slept with one of the directors to pull your votes up. Is that true?"
"What the hell are you talking about?" Alyssa Curtis burst out with anger. Her cheek flushed red as she glared at the reporter who asked such an indecent question. She pointed at the male reporter who kept throwing such vulgar questions. "Do you believe me I will—"
Alyssa Curtis felt a soft hand gently patting her shoulder. She felt a sense of warmth and security with the touch, and her words swallowed back down her throat immediately. She looked back and stared at the owner of the hand, blushing.
The person was a young and handsome man wearing a blue suit. He was not too tall as a man but he was handsome and looked fresh. His skin was smooth, soft, and white like jade and snow. He appeared so gentle and kind, but his noble aura and confidence was too strong. Everyone was dumbfounded with the sight of him.
If those few who had rarely seen him in their company were shocked by his beauty and charm, how much more so to those who never saw him before? They were too stunned with their eyes popping out in their sockets and jaws were dropped.
Everyone instantly inquired about the identity of the man.
"Who is he? I've never seen him before?"
"Is he Ms. Alyssa Curtis's boyfriend?"
"I never heard of her having such an outstanding boyfriend."
"Is he someone in the entertainment industry too?"
"Probably. Look at how handsome he is. I want him for myself."
"Hmmp, keep on dreaming. You don't even deserve to carry his shoes."
"I may not be that too beautiful for him. But I'm not ugly either."
"Exactly. So you can just keep dreaming."
Everyone on sight remained silent as they stared at him. As if his presence was enough to shut everybody's mouth shut.
The man retracted his hand and the gentle eyes he used to look at Alyssa Curtis disappeared and were replaced with a distant and cold gaze. As if he was trying to freeze everyone's souls with such a gaze.
Everybody felt a chill run down their spine in an instant.
The man swept his emotionless eyes around and stopped to ask the reporter who threw such a question. "What's your name? And what media company did you work for?"
"Who I am and where I work has nothing to do with the truth. Don't try to avoid the question by bending the topic." The male reporter said arrogantly.
"Oh?" The man's brow arched as he placed his hands on his pockets. His eyes flashed with coldness as he slightly lowered his gaze to the speaker's chest badge. "You're Alex Carpio of Ghost Media?"
"Yes, I am. But who are you to intimidate people here?"
"Did I? Everyone sees I didn't do anything." The man laughed innocently. "I'm Ms. Curtis's manager. Do you know the consequences of slandering my artist?"
Alex Carpio scoffed. "Consequences? We reporters are never afraid of consequences as long as we can let the world know about the truth! Unless you're guilty."
The young man nodded and looked for something in his pocket. It turned out he was fetching out his phone. "Alright. I almost forgot to tell you that I know the chief editor of Ghost Media. Let me call him—"
The male reporter anxiously rushed and reached out for the young man's phone. "Don't call him!!!"
Everyone was caught off guard with the reporter's action. Surprise and confusion were written all over their faces. After a few minutes of silence, they finally understood that the said reporter who kept enticing others and provoking the artist was actually a fraud.
Everyone, especially the reporters, looked at Alex Carpio in disdain. His action was a disgrace in their field.
"I—" Sweat emerged on Alex Carpio's forehead. The phone that he just snatched fell on the floor as he realised that he just exposed himself.
He was over.
Alex Carpio looked around him and immediately made his way out of the crowd but he was caught by the guards on duty in the venue. He was dragged away by them and ignored his screams for mercy.
The man secretly called the staff of the event with a nod of his head and handed him a small drive when the staff came over. The staff understood what the young man was trying to do and quickly brought it backstage to play.
Before everyone could scatter with dissatisfaction about the issue, the man spoke loudly again, making their heads turn at him once more with admiration and anticipation for the words he was about to say.
The big projector on the stage lit up and a detailed report appeared on the screen. When everyone saw it, especially those who had some unpleasant thoughts about Alyssa Curtis's award, they felt ashamed and couldn't look at their eyes anymore.
"You saw it. The report on screen is the detailed schedule of my artiste. There were photoshoots, guesting, filming, and rehearsals of her new projects. Schedule as full as her, rest is even hard to fill in, how can she go out to sleep or mess around with some random guy under my 24/7 watch?" The man feigned a smile. "Your imagination is really prolific."
Just like that, the issue was over.
An hour later, the host went to the center of the stage. He was the current CEO of Starmoon Entertainment. He first greeted everyone and followed by a congratulatory speech for Alyssa Curtis.
The CEO gave time for Alyssa Curtis to give a thank you speech and after that, they thought that the advertisement was already done and the party was finally going to start. In the end, the CEO went to the center again and joyfully held the microphone. "Tonight, we have a VIP guest. He was very low-key and never appeared in the media. He is actually very busy but somehow he accepted our invitation for tonight's banquet at the last minute.
"I know everyone is wondering who he is. Actually, not everyone can easily meet this God figure but tonight we are all lucky to meet him. Well, I forgot to announce that this VVIP guest is the new Big Boss of my company. I'm no longer the owner and from now on, I will be just in-charge of running the company under his lead.
"You don't have to worry that I will leave. I wanted to leave but he didn't allow me since he is very busy in the Mother company. But of course, the Big Boss will supervise our company from time to time since he bought it from me. I'm sad but this is what life is.
"Yes. You're right. Tonight's banquet is not only to congratulate Miss Curtis but also to welcome our new Big Boss. I got a message from him. In a while, he will be here. So please wait patiently. Thank you."
Everyone's jaws dropped with such explosive news. Whether celebrities or reporters, they began to speculate who the mysterious Big Boss is, and from the introduction of the host, they couldn't help but feel excited.
"What the hell?"
"Do you guys have any idea who this mysterious person is?"
"He must be handsome!"
"Who do you think is the most handsome? Ms. Curtis's manager or that mysterious Big Boss?"
"Why argue over it. We can judge it if we see him later."
"Oh, right. That's right!"
"This is such explosive news."
Alyssa Curtis noticed the change of her manager's expression. He frowned and his eyes flashed with hatred.
Was she seeing things?
Alyssa Curtis was intrigued and wanted to ask her manager but she couldn't find the right words to initiate a conversation. Instead to satisfy her curiosity with the sudden change of such a cold face, she chose to talk about the new Big Boss. She leaned slightly close to the man's shoulder and whispered with her hand covering her mouth, "Brother Xander, do you know who the new Big Boss of Starmoon is?"
Xander Villaruel glanced at the woman next to him and shook his head expressionlessly. He brought his fingers on his chin and snorted. "I don't know him. No one informs me about the changes of the company." He patted Alyssa Curtis's shoulder. "Don't think about him. Let's just enjoy the night. It's your best moment. Don't let others affect it."
"Oh,.." Alyssa Curtis nodded like an obedient little girl. "I'm not interested in him at all. I'm just curious if you know some Big figure you disliked."
Xander Villaruel finally turned his head at her and observed her meaningfully. "Why did you say so?"
"I saw the hatred in your eyes when CEO Aquino introduced the new Big Boss."
"Your thinking too much!" Xander Villaruel rose up from his seat. "I'm going to the washroom. Remember, no matter how others provoke you, don't easily lose your temper. It won't do good to you. Are we clear?"
"Emm" Alyssa Curtis smiled. "Don't worry. I will remember it. I won't make trouble for you again this time."
"Good girl." Xander Villaruel poked Alyssa Curtis's nose and turned to leave right away after, making the latter blush even more and stared at her with infatuation.
However, before he could exit to go to the restroom, screams of excitement were heard inside. Xander Villaruel's subconscious mind made him halt on his step. His feet nailed on the floor as his eyes fixed at the door. Shortly after, a group of bodyguards in maroon uniforms made a path from the crowd, shoved the reporters aside professionally who dashed forward to take pictures, and formed two rows with them standing with their hands clasping behind their back like real soldiers.
Followed by them was a steady and fine footsteps. One step, two steps, three steps, four steps, a Godlike figure popped in the door. His appearance caused a great commotion. Ladies couldn't contain their admiration of his unrivaled looks and voices of infatuation.
The handsome face of a man wore no emotions. His brows were slightly furrowed. His eyes were cold and dark as if he was sucking everyone's in as he looked straight ahead. He stood upright, showing off his broad shoulders and fit figure under his grey suits, and an air of confidence, arrogance, and superiority shrouded all over him.
His aura was oppressive and at the moment he stepped in, the temperature again dropped to certain degrees. Even so, it wasn't enough to shut their mouths for admiring him and worshipping him like God. Actually, most of them had their mouths opened wide and their eyes rounded in shock of his heavenly beauty.
Xander Villaruel and Chen Lei met each other's eyes. As everyone noticed it, everyone shrieked once more.
"God, who is that person who came?"
"Do you need to ask? Look at the Logo of the bodyguards uniform? It's CL. Meaning it's Chen Lei from CL International."
"Does that mean that the Big Boss of Starmoon is him?"
"Who knows? Maybe."
Xander Villaruel's heart skipped a bit. It's been five years since they last met and he was still as handsome as before in his eyes. If there's no hatred in between them, his legs would probably shiver with his looks.
Xander Villaruel bit his lower lip and his hands balled tightly on his sides. "Geneva Oh Geneva, calm down. This is not the place for you to vent your anger."
On the other hand, Chen Lei continued to walk forward. His cold dark eyes were also set on him. Like he saw him through and the obvious frown he didn't have on his forehead appeared as he got closer to him.
Everyone sensed a silent raging tension between the two handsome men. Oddly, despite the tension, there were some sparks hovering in the air as they stared at each other and their chemistry was too strong for everyone to ignore.
What's just happening? Did these two hunks know each other? Everyone felt a headache as they watched from the side. They couldn't decide who was the most superior when it came to looks and aloofness. Both were outstanding in their own beauty and both were cold in their own way.
"Do you guys think there's some love in the air?"
"I feel it too. Hmm, it's weird. Why do I feel they looked good together?"
From the sight of Geneva and Chen Lei, there's no one else around except the two of them. There's some lingering feelings of mutual love in their eyes, but hatred was also as deep as their romantic feelings.
Geneva's heart beat like a drum when Chen Lei was mostly a meter away from her. She swore she didn't know what she would do if he stopped in front of her. Fortunately, Chen Lei passed through her and the aura oozing his body uncontrollably made her flesh tremble.
She subconsciously hugged her arms. "It's fine. It's fine. Hold your anger in. Don't look back and just leave."
Geneva closed her eyes to calm down and after a few seconds, she dragged her feet to walk away from that Hell with the devil she loathed. However, a cold voice abruptly froze her after a single step she took.
"Wait!"
