I woke up to knocking on my bedroom door; I got out of bed and opened it. Calypso and Ilta stood in the doorway with a trolly of food. It had been almost two weeks since we had found out that we were pregnant.
“We came to eat with you,” Ilta said.
"And plan for our escape," Calypso added. I smiled and nodded, moving aside to let them in, closing the door behind them. We walked over to the couch set, sat down, and I put the TV on, switching it to ‘INPUT 2’ so that we could watch a movie while we ate.
“So, what shall we watch?” Calypso asked. I looked at Ilta with raised brows.
“I would say Twilight, but why not Fifty Shades today?” Ilta said, and we agreed. As put in the movie, we sat, eating the blueberry muffins, bacon, eggs, and sausage with our hot cocoa, and discussing our eventual escape plan when Calypso asked how we would tell the boys that we were pregnant and still escape them.
“Well, we could-” Ilta’s suggestion was cut by the sound of someone knocking rapidly on the bedroom door. We looked at each other, puzzled as none of our mates ever knocked and no one ever came up to the alpha and luna’s bedroom. I got up from my spot on the sofa to open the door, and as I did, I was in complete shock. Standing in front of me was a worn-out and tired-looking Zaria.
“H-hi, Luna Ororo,” she said, “M-may I come in?” I was in such a state of shock that it took me two minutes to realize what she had asked.
“Um...sure.” I said, stepping aside for her to come in, “Go over to the single seater.”. She walked over to the chair and took her seat. I walked up behind her, sinking back into the loveseat.
“Okay, I’m listening,” I said.
“I’m sorry for what my mother did to you. She was banished this morning. I was given a choice to leave as well,” she said. “And also, I’m sorry for how I treated and acted toward you; it’s just that since we were young, all Ares and Add would say is you killed your parents and twin brother”. At the mention of their name, I gritted my teeth in annoyance, but I suppressed my rage and allowed her to continue.
“I’m sorry I tried to take Atto away from you. My mate, he-”
“Wait!” I exclaimed, “You have a mate!”. She nodded her head, I looked in Ilta and Calypso's direction to see that they had the same expression of surprise and confusion, just as I did. We looked at her, prompting her to continue.
“My mate, he calls himself The Dark Alpha, and he wants you, Ororo to be his Dark Luna.” she said, now looking sad, “He didn’t reject me if that’s what you are wondering, he said he was going to keep me as his mistress, but you would be the one to bear his pups.” I looked at her, shocked and bewildered.
“Okay, never going to happen, but why are you telling us this?” I asked. She looked at me, tears now staining her eyes.
“Because I’m going to him. He wants you and will stop at nothing to have you, so please, be prepared and keep your eyes sharp,” she said. "He has spies within the pack and surrounding packs." She got up and left the room. After she left, the plan fell into place in my head. We discussed telling our mates what we had learned about the new arising danger, as we had news of our own to share with them.
"What-what are we gonna do? Wait for this asshole to come to find us! We can't tell them about our pregnancies...we should just leave, we can leave." I said, pacing the room.
"Ororo. We must. They're our mates, we have to trust them." Calypso said.
"How? You may have faith in your mate, but I don't!" I said, desperately trying not to cry; I sat back into my chair as a surging pain shot through me, and I almost doubled over. I grit my teeth as Ilta and Calypso rush to my side. I waved them off as I was already aware of what was happening. I righted myself and pressed play on the movie. Patiently, we waited for the boys to finish their meeting. When we were certain that the meeting was over, we walked to Atto's office.
“Hey, we were just coming to get you girls,” Atto said, rising from his seat. His voice grated on my nerves. I wore a stoned expression, but Ilta and Calypso looked at each other nervously, then at me, I closed my eyes, exhaled deeply, and opened them again. They took my hands and looked back toward their mates.
“Um, I know I ain’t no genius, but something’s definitely up.” Wyatt said, coming forward, “Cal?”. Calypso pulled away, backing into me. I stood there, holding each of them as they fought back tears. I offered comforting nudges and small rubs on their arms.
"Ilta?” Midnight called, but she turned away from him. I kept my head forward, ignoring Atto’s gaze.
“Girls, what’s wrong? You’re worrying us,” Atto said. We stood there in the doorway, holding hands.
“You guys may want to take a seat,” I said in a soft but resolute voice, but they remained standing. I pushed past Atto into the office and stood to the side so that he could come back in, my arms never moving from around my chosen family. He steps back in and closes the door behind him.
“We’re pregnant!” Calypso blurted out. They froze, saying nothing for almost two minutes. I felt the panic and fear rise in their bodies.
“Please, guys, say something!” Ilta cried out.
“Y-y-you’re serious?” Atto asked, blinking.
Smiles began plastering themselves across their faces, and they began jumping for joy; they couldn’t help but collapse on the floor crying. I knelt over them, consoling them, rubbing their back, and cradling each as I whispered soothing words into their ear.
“Hey, hey, hey. Why are you crying?” they cooed, rushing over to us. They shook their heads, crying into their hands.
“What if we don’t make good mothers?” Ilta cried.
"It isn't as if we had the greatest examples," Calypso finished. I knew what they meant; the women of the pack aren’t treated very well, and they don't exactly favor their female offspring; some of the girls I used to see were sold by their own mothers to be breeders for the most immoral of alphas. Some were even killed before their first shift.
“And the timing is just wrong,” I said, looking up at them. The boys looked at each other, then back at us.
“What’s wrong with the timing?” Wyatt asked.
“Y-you have to tell them, Ororo,” Calypso said, wiping her running nose with the back of her hand and suddenly I remembered that we were just sixteen years old. Atto and Wyatt were both nineteen. The boys sat down on the floor and pulled them into their laps. Atto tried, and I pulled away, the faint smell of another female smeared all over him. I settled myself on the couch, arms folded, and legs crossed. He glared at me, and I ignored him. he relented, settling himself at my feet as I relayed the information, we had learned earlier that day.
“So let me get this straight. This Dark Alpha guy wants to mate you, Ororo, because of your power?” Wyatt asked. I shrugged my shoulders, rose to my feet and sauntered out of the office.
