Chapter 1: First Party
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKK" my best friend squealed on the phone.  I brought my phone away from my ear plugging it not expecting the squeal even though I should have. "Ow Angie warn a girl next time will you?" I scolded.  "I'm sorry Georgia it's just that I'm so excited!  We just finished Junior year and I have finally got you to agree to go to a party with me tonight!".  What you don't know about me is I'm your typical nerd am always reading books in my room while everyone else goes to football games, basketball games, etc. but I am in choir so I'm not a total outcast. That being said high school parties are definitely not my scene. As for my best friend Angie on the other hand although she is in the honors classes with me she definitely leaned more towards your typical cheerleader than a nerd and she loved going to parties. She is even lined up to be the next head cheerleader next year but she is not a b***h like your typical head cheerleaders. She is the type to walk in a room and make everyone smile just because of the energy she has. We have been best friends since second grade. She stood up for me when a boy was making fun of me for having glasses by punching him square in the nose. Don't take my best friend as a door mat even though she is nice she is definitely still a bad ass and more than capable of defending herself because of her three older brothers.  "Ughhh you're really going to hold me to that?" I whined. The more I thought of it the more tempted I was to just put on PJ's and curl up in bed eating ice cream while watching Netflix all night instead. That truly sounds like the perfect night to me.  "Yes! You promised! I did not go a whole week without picking on my brother for nothing Georgia!" She had a habit of picking on her brothers and I had a HUGE crush on her brother Tyler he was a year older then us and was a nerd like me. I was hoping if she quit picking on him for a bit it would calm things down and get him to notice me for once when I came over. Of course it never worked Tyler still never really noticed me but the only way that she would do it was if I agreed to go to the end of school year party with her so I agreed.  "Fine but you better hurry up and get here in ten minutes, otherwise I'm not going" I huffed.  "Get your panties out of a twist Georgia I'm walking up to your room now". Angie didn't know what knocking was at my house, she had been over so many times that this was her second home so she never saw a point in knocking. I still always knocked whenever I went to her house though she always got frustrated with me about it because it made her have to get up when she was already comfy for no reason.  She finished going up the steps and burst into my room. "Alright your fairy godmother is here now get your ass up so I can work my magic!". "Don't I have to want to go to the party in order for you to be the fairy godmother? This feels more like you're the wicked stepmother" I groaned. "Shut up and get up Georgia! You promised that you would go with me!" "Ugh.. fine.. I don't even know what you wear to these kinds of things" "That's exactly why I'm here!" "But you're probably going to make me wear something short and tight!" I whined. "You have a stunning body Georgia you need to develop some confidence! I'm not going to make you wear something short and tight but you are not allowed to wear a hoodie and jeans like you do everyday" There was a reason why I was never able to build up my confidence but nobody knew about that not even Angie knew and I was determined to keep it that way. "Fine.." I caved. "Great first things first outfit!" Angie dug through my closet throwing out different outfits to try on and she made me try on every one. Finally she made me try on a lilac colored skater dress that had a sweet heart neckline and had me wear a black leather jacket over it with a simple silver heart necklace and small silver hoop earrings. When I looked at the dress though, all I could see were my insecurities. Angie immediately knew what I was thinking "Unh uh! Nope! No way! You're not allowed to be insecure right now! You look STUNNING in that dress, it hugs your curves but it's still modest AND the color matches your skin tone perfectly! There is absolutely nothing there for you to be insecure about Georgia." I looked in the mirror and started to see a little bit of what she saw and decided to try and face my insecurities tonight and actually wear this tonight. The more I looked at the dress the more I smiled the dress really was beautiful and it was my favorite color. That was the whole reason I bought it. "Okay I agree. Even though I don't want to go this is the best one out of all of the outfits." "Eeeeeeekk!" I plugged my ears again. "What the hell Angie?!" "You just agreed to wear an outfit I picked out! I'm sorry but I'm excited!" I just rolled my eyes Angie always loved putting together cute outfits like this so it doesn't really surprise me that she is excited about this.  "Okay, Outfit? Check!" she made a check motion with her finger "Next? Makeup" she said in a sing-song voice. She applied my foundation, then my eye shadow, etc. until finally the only thing left to apply was lip gloss. "I'm going to let you do this step so that you can look and finally see all the beauty in you that everyone else sees."  'Not everyone'  I thought to myself.  Not wanting to start another argument I accepted the lip gloss and applied it to my lips looking in the mirror. When I was done with that I looked at my reflection as a whole. I could hardly even recognize myself I looked so beautiful. My long blonde hair that was usually pin straight was now set into curls, the dress really did hug my curves perfectly without being too tight, and the color made my olive skin glow.  Angie checked her watch and it was time for us to head out to go to the party. I was actually getting kind of excited about going to this party but I refused to tell Angie that she'd be way too smug about it.  We finally arrived at the party at around 8:30. Angie reached behind her grabbing my hand and dragging me in to the party. As I looked around I realized that the books and movies really do not exaggerate high school parties. There was a group playing beer pong in one corner, couples or those who looked to be couples making out on a couch in another corner, and music blasting through out the whole house. A whole lot of people were already drunk beyond comprehension; it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. I on the other hand did not plan on drinking even one drink.  Angie reached in to her purse and grabbed out waters for each of us. Usually Angie drinks but we brought her car and she's very particular about who drives it. Basically meaning only she was allowed to drive. So since we each weren't planning on drinking tonight we brought our own waters not entirely sure that the water here wasn't drugged.  Angie didn't want to leave me but I knew she wanted to go and dance and find a new fling so I gave her permission multiple times to go over and dance and she found a girl she wanted to dance with and soon they wound up going over to the make out corner. Angie was bi and very confident in herself. Yes we were just friends just because someone is bi in a friendship doesn't mean there is a romance brewing in the background. Angie felt nothing towards me except friendly love.  With Angie preoccupied I was feeling awkward just standing there doing nothing so I went out back on the porch and pulled out my phone to read a book. As I walked out I saw the person I least expected.  "Tyler?!" He jumped clearly startled by my voice. "Oh s**t! Oh it is just you. Hey Georgia" he waved at me.  "Hey. Sorry I did not mean to startle you but what are you doing here?!" I asked. "I could ask you the same thing. I would never expect you, Georgia Evans, to be at a party" He said. "Your sister made me come. Now why ar-" I was cut off by my phone ringing. "One second" I held my finger up to him as I said this.  The caller was my dad so I had to take it. "Hey Dad What's up?" I answered. Only the voice that responded wasn't my dad's it was a stranger's.  "Hello is this Georgia, Frank Evans' daughter?" "This is she. Why do you have my dad's phone?" I queried.  "This is Alicia from the Atlanta General Hospital here in town is there any way you can get a ride over here? I've got some information that I wish to share with you that I can't do over the phone."  "Is my dad okay??" "I can't say can you make it over here?"  "Yeah I can make it over. I'll be there in 10 minutes."  Tyler looked at me with concern but I didn't have time to explain anything to him; I rushed inside and grabbed Angie. "My dad is at the Atlanta General Hospital I'm sorry to interrupt but I need to leave right now. Angie quickly got up after I said hospital and we exited the front door getting into Angie's car and drove quickly to the hospital hoping that my dad was going to be okay when we got there.
