The Potions Professor

At thirteen if you have any sign of magic abilities you get to go to a school to learn magic. Today is my first day at school. Everyone has the same classes and after a few years, each student goes into a specialty. I'm so excited about this. I have a passion for cooking and heard that potions were similar. Everyone sat at the same long table because the room was divided by grades. Every year you moved until your final year when you sat in the back. "Good morning Everyone." The headmaster said and everyone looked towards her. "Good morning Headmistress." Everyone said in unison. "It is a wonderful first day back and a wonderful day to see new faces." She went on to talk about the professors we had and the roles they had in the school. "This year we have a new professor for potions." The man stood up and he was so handsome. And I knew I wasn't the only one all the girls started to whisper. "This is professor Nicholas Lucas." She said but it seemed like no one was paying attention to the Headmistress, but she kept talking. It was mostly rules and class schedule pick up and room for males and females. I figured that most of the older students already knew those things and didn't feel the need to pay attention. The Headmistress dismissed the first year's table to go to our rooms and get our schedules. I got up and headed in the direction that he had said while a lot of people followed behind because they didn't pay attention. I found my room with my bag and pulled everything out to put away since I wasn't planning on living out of my case the whole school year. "That professor is a total hottie." One of the older girls I passed on my way to get my schedule. "Do you think I could get an A, just by sleeping with him?" She giggled. I laughed a little loud at the way she was so desperate for an easy A. "What's your problem? It's not like you know what a man wants in a woman." She said to me. "I don't, but I know that in the rules you aren't considered a woman." I turned and kept walking. I hoped I didn't ruin my chance of making any friends. I couldn't find time for gossip or what others call girl talk. When I got my schedule for my classes they also had a pile of books underneath them. I took the pile back to the dorms and went through them. A lot of the people on the way I saw had enchanted their books to float next to them. A few people snickered or said fresh meat. As I walked by. I didn't mind carrying the books, it was nice. I was still getting used to magic and I didn't want to overdo it on the spells and be dependent on them. I sat the books on the bed and looked at my schedule, the basics were on the list as I already knew but I wanted to know when I had potions. It was after lunch. I placed all the other books aside and looked through potions. I wanted to see if it was as wonderful as I hoped. The first few sections were don'ts, but I figure you have to know that before you can learn how to. I didn't realize how fast time had passed until it was too dark to read anymore. I turned on the light next to me and as it was almost time for dinner and I had skipped lunch. I was glad it wasn't the first day that classes started. I went down to eat and ate quickly. The noise from all the gossip was giving me a headache. I wanted to get back to the book for potions. I had almost finished the book and I didn't even create anything but just knew exactly what I had to do. I wasn't sure what time it was when I fell asleep, but I knew I had when it fell. I put it off to the side before I fell back asleep. The light from the morning ray's filled the room and I got out of bed and got ready for my first class of the day wishing it was potions. I finished lunch early and went to the potions class to get a seat in the front but I should have skipped lunch seeing all the girls sitting up there. I took a seat in the back and opened the book to finish the last of what was in the back. "Good Afternoon class." Professor Lucas said. "Good Afternoon." All the girls said in a sweet high pitched voice. I mumbled it. He handed out some papers and everyone took one. I looked it over and knew exactly what we were doing, filling out what was a don't in the lab. He had the chalk start writing on the board. "The next few days will be long and boring for all of you. We will fill this together and I will say now if you keep track of this when you have the test in the next month you will pass it." I looked down at the paper and wrote everything in. I remembered everything that I had already read. I tuned him out and went back to the book. Class ended. "Miss Russell, please come up to my desk." Crap is already the first day of class and I'm in trouble. "Sir." I heard my voice crack in fear. "I see you are ahead of everyone else in this class. Why is that?" "I read the book last night. Well," I lowered my head, "except for the few parts I read in class." "Do you like potions?" "I do." "Okay, I see, well please try and be more attentive in class. Even if this does seem like a review for you. I'm not asking you to answer all the questions I ask, but I might say something that might not be in the book." "Okay, I promise next class I won't be reading unless we have to." "Thank you. Since I made you late for your next class, here is a note." "Thank you." I took the note and walked out. A few of the older girls were staring at me as I left the room.
