It was crazy how fast summer had gone and I was back to going to school for my third year. I read the book that Professor Lucas had given me to read. I didn’t do anything that was in the book since many of the ingredients that were involved wouldn’t have been easy to get. I spent most of the time reading and rereading it when I had nothing else to do. I had my bags packed and I was ready to teleport to the school.
“Mom,” I said as I head into the kitchen.
“Yes?” She asked while she was busy chopping nuts.
“I’m going to be leaving soon,” I tell her waiting for her to hug me goodbye.
She set down the knife and grabbed a towel to wipe the nut oils off her hands before she hugged me. She hugged tight.
“I’ll miss you.” She said.
“I’ll miss you too see you when school is over,” I said once we finished our hug and I headed to teleport to the school with my things.
“I added the powder onto my suitcases first and sent them off to the room that stored them until we got there. I grabbed the book Professor Lucas gave me and sprinkle the powder on myself.
I appeared in front of the school. The headmistress was standing just on the other side of the doors greeting everyone who came in.
I smiled and greeted her. I went to get my schedule before the new students did. I looked it over I wasn’t too upset with the schedule I had but potions were closer to lunchtime which I knew would make it hard for me to want to go to the other classes.
I decided that I was going to return the book I was holding on to a little tighter than normal worrying that at the last second something was going to happen to it.
I opened the big door to the potions class and walked up the stairs to the office that Professor Lucas used. The door was cracked a little flittering light into the room. I heard giggling from a female. I looked through the crack of the door not seeing anyone. I knocked on the door before I slowly pushed it open.
As I was able to look more into the room I didn’t see the Professor but I did see a lady sitting in his seat.
“Um, excuse me is Professor Lucas here?” I asked.
“No, he’s not. Who are you?” I grabbed the book tighter to myself freaking out that the professor was replaced.
“I’m- I’m Lena.” Stuttering with nerves.
“Lena.” I heard Professor Lucas’ voice from the storage closet.
“Hi, Professor.” I put my hands out straight to hold out the book for him to grab.
He took the book gently.
“Sweety, this is the student I was telling you about.” He said. I looked between the two of them.
“Oh, isn’t she cute? I see you let her borrow a book. That was nice of you.” I felt like she was looking me over trying to judge if I was a threat to her, which make my stomach sick. I didn’t see him that way and he didn’t see me that way. We had a learning environment, not something gross.
“Thanks for letting me borrow it. I should go find my friends and get ready for class tomorrow.” I spoke a bit quickly wanting to get out of the situation that was making me uncomfortable.
I moved as quickly as I could without giving away the uneasy feeling I had.
Once I was in the hall I ran into Gina and Allie.
“Told you she'd be here,” Gina told Allie.
I grabbed both the girls and hugged them.
“I missed you two girls.” I did we didn’t get to talk much over the summer. I let go of them. “Let’s go get our rooms ready.” I headed toward the girls' dorms ready to unpack.
“Lena, are you okay?” Gina asked. I was putting all the clothes I had in the wardrobe.
“No.” I turned to look at the two girls. I didn’t feel comfortable and I needed to talk to them about it.
“What happened? Was it the Professor?” Allie asked.
“No it wasn’t him, but his girlfriend gave me an uneasy feeling.”
“What kind of feeling.” Gina moved toward me, but I went to sit on my bed.
“She acted like I was after him. We all know that I don't and can't see him in that way. He is my professor.” I said to them feeling better that they knew what happened when I gave the book back.
“Sounds like she's scared of him straying,” Gina said.
“I don’t know, I just don’t like being looked at like I’m more than his student.”
“It sounds like he likes you,” Allie said. Gina and I both looked at her confused. “As a student. Duh. But I do think that he must have talked about you a lot for her to be like that.” Allie explained. “I am ready to eat.”
“Allie, we still have a few hours,” Gina said and grabbed a pillow and threw it at her. It made me laugh and feel better.
