Chapter 4

On the first day of my second year at the school of magic. I was so excited to get back to doing potions work and remember that Professor Lucus would be giving me extra work that I got to do since I would be ahead of everyone else in the class. I walked into the dining hall like we did every year and sat at the new table for the year with all the second years. I saw everyone around me hugging and greeting each other but I didn’t make any friends last year to have what everyone else was doing. I shrugged it off and waited for the Headmistress to start the new school year. I wanted to go get my books and schedule for the year. “Good Morning everyone.” The Headmistress said at her podium. “Good Morning Headmistress.” We all said in unison. “Welcome all the new students joining us this year as well as our students coming back for another year. I'm happy to see everyone's smiling faces.” I slowly started to tune her out since it was the same thing as what she had said the year before. I was just waiting to be dismissed for the rest of the day. I was so tuned out that I only noticed we were dismissed when everyone started to move around me. I waited a little bit before I got up to head to the line to get my things. I bumped into a girl who looked lost as if I was going to get everything. “I’m sorry.” She said nervously. “Hey, it’s okay. Do you want me to help you get everything?” I asked her. I was nervous about my first day but not how bad she looked like she wanted to faint. She just nodded at me. “Here we will go to the first-year table to get your things then go to mine. Afterward the dorm and the rest of the grounds.” She smiled at me. We went to the table. “Name?” The lady behind the table said. “Allie Ken.” After she said her name, the books and schedule appeared in front of her. She grabbed the books off the table. I motioned her to follow me to my table to get my things. “Name?” The lady said. “Lena Russell.” My books and schedule appeared, but there were more than the other students and most of them were potion books. I smiled that Professor Lucas got me more books than I expected to get. I used the spell that others used to carry their books around. There was too much to carry with my hands. “Lena, that is so cool,” Allie said to me. “Do you want me to do the same for your books? I would carry them but I think the potions professor got carried away.” I smiled at her. “Could you?” I did the spell and she released her books as they followed us around. “Why would the potions professor give you more books than others? Does he not like you?” She asked after a few moments walking down the hall to the girls' dorm rooms. “It’s not that he doesn’t like me, it's more because I enjoy the class so much that I tend to get too far ahead. He wants to keep me focused which I appreciate.” “Can Professor Lucas get any hotter?” I overheard one of the girls as we stepped into the dorms. I shook my head at the thought that the girls couldn’t be normal. “Your dorm will be there where it says first years mine is there. You will find your bed with your things around it. Go ahead and set your books on the table next to your bed and meet me back here with your schedule. We will go over where you have to go.” I said to her then headed off to my room to find where my bed was. “Lena.” I heard one of the girls say. She and I were in the dorm together last year but I never learned her name. I looked over where she was across from my bed this year. “How come you have a ton more books than everyone else?” She asked. “Professor Lucas said he wanted to give me more this year.” “I don’t blame him.” She laughed at me. “I’m taking the first year out if you want to also learn where some of our new classes are?” I asked her, trying not to act like I never learned her name. “Sure. I don’t know where two of my classes are.” She said to me. “I haven’t even looked it over yet.” I grabbed my schedule and then finally set my books down. We walked out of our room into the common room. “Allie.” I waved at her. She walked up to us. “Hi, I’m Gina.” She said to Allie. I finally knew her name and wouldn’t have to try and act like I didn’t know her name. “Allie.” She said. “Why don’t we take Allie to all her classes and look for ours while we take her,” I said to Gina. “That works for me.” We headed out of the dorm and looked over Allie’s schedule as well as ours to find the best way to get around the school to show her around. As we went around to a few of the first classes we were about halfway through the schedules and were at the Potions class. “This is the potions room.” I pushed the door to find it open. “Lena, what are you doing?” Both Gina and Allie said together. “Lucas won’t mind. I’m just going to say hi, do you want to come in or wait out here?” I asked since I was going to go in anyway. I walked in and moved to the stairs that went up to his office. I looked to see them behind me looking a little nervous. I knocked on the door. “Professor Lucas, it’s Lena Russell,” I said. The door unlocked and he opened the door. “You brought friends with you,'' he smiled. “Come in.” He moved out of the way and we walked into his office. “Professor, this is Allie Ken, a first-year student and you already know Gina,” I said. “Gina, good to see you again. Allie, what is your favorite subject you are looking at?” He asked politely. “I’m fully sure yet. I’m hoping I’ll know as Gina and Lena do.” “I don’t know what I want,” Gina said. I laughed a little. I was a weird student. I knew what I wanted before I had even stepped onto the school grounds. “I am an abnormal student, Allie. Most don’t know until their fourth year.” “She is right.” Professor Lucas said. “Don’t worry now about what you want, just enjoy your classes so that you have something that will stick out to you.” He smiled at her and it looked like she was swooning. I started to worry Allie was going to be like the other girls around here who liked him. “We should get going to finish looking for our classes. See you, tomorrow Professor.” I said. “Oh, and thank you for the extra books.” “Please don’t finish them tonight.” He said with laughter. “No, promises,” I said back. We all walked out of the office and through the classroom. I looked over the schedule to make the turn in the direction of the next class.
