The year went by fast and I was happy that I was passing all my classes. They weren't all the best grades but I was passing. The only class in that I had the best grade was Potions. I had all my things packed and ready to go but I wanted to stop by Professor Lucas' office to thank him for a great year.
I put my bags to be taken out of the school to be delivered back to my parent's house. I was happy to go home and see them. I walked to Professor Lucas' office but there was a sign on the classroom door saying he was out. I moved past the door to head into class. I went up the stairs to the Professor's office and knocked on the door.
"Professor Lucas it's Lena Russell." She said after she knocked.
The door to his office unlocked and he motioned me to come in looking around. I knew it was because of all the girls who didn't want his help in the way he wanted to help.
"Miss Russell, I'm surprised you are not already heading out to go home for the summer." He said to her as he locked the office door.
"I am, but I wanted to thank you for a wonderful first year at the school and for seeing how much I love potions." I smiled at him. He was the one professor I felt a connection.
"Miss Russell if I knew you were going to stop by I would have gotten some summer reading for you, but I don't think I'll be able to in the short time before you leave. Next year remind me beforehand."
"That is so awesome professor! I'll try to remember for next year. I'm going to miss this class. I can't wait for the advanced class for next year." I was excited about a more advanced class that I was willing to not have a summer to be in that class, but I didn't want the other classes I would have to take.
"I shouldn't say anything but I did talk to the Headmistress to get you into the last potions class that most students take but she didn't want to single you out from your peers." He told me. I was shocked that he thought I was advanced enough for a third-year class. There was a fourth-year class but it was an elective for students and it wasn't required.
"I'm so honored that you think I can handle a third-year class."
"I know you can, I would prefer you in the fourth year class but I didn't want to push my luck. I do plan on giving you more work than others if you don't mind that."
"I don't mind that. I won't get bored when you lecture about things I already studied for." I got all giddy over the idea of having more than the basics that the others would have.
"I'm glad you are okay with that, but I think you should be going now." Professor Lucas went to the door to unlock it and let me go. "Have a good summer." He said to me as I left the office.
"You to professor." I smiled and skipped down the stairs. I got myself together before I left the classroom.
I opened the door and a few girls were around reading the sign. They got excited then their smiles flattened when they saw me.
"Is he not in his office?" One of the girls asked.
"No, I was hoping to thank him for a great year but I never got an answer. Kind of disappointed." I put on my best sad face for them as I lied. They surprisingly believed me and walked away.
Since I got what I wanted to do I headed out to go home for the summer and get ready for another year of learning.
