I was sitting on the end of the pier, looking at the water reflecting the night sky. The water was so calm that it looked like the sky melted into the ocean. I had stayed at the restaurant until it closed, and they asked me to leave. I got up and walked back towards the waterfront stores, although they were all closed now, except for a bar further down the road. A couple of men came out and walked in my direction. Even though I didn’t think they’d take any notice of me, I thought it better to be on the safe side and avoid them. I hurried down an alley and took cover between two dumpsters.
