Chapter One
Selena Luciano pulled into the driveway of her modern house. She could never call it home despite living there her entire life. The interior, although homey and warm, only reminded her of the things she had been deprived of. Her parents, her Grandma, a loving family.
She lazily strolled into her kitchen and settled on the kitchen island. She hated the life she was living, no matter how fancy and glamorous it seemed to the outside world. She missed her parents who were killed when she was just four and Grandma. What a sweet lady she had been but as always it seemed the Creator was jealous of all the good things she had in her life. Her Grandma, Loretta, had been killed when she was just seventeen.
Her eyes wandered to the forest outside. She could see it through the glass wall that covered the back of her house. Somehow, she didn't feel like she belonged there, in the human world. She thought of the place she always dreamt of. A land covered in beautiful, lush green forests and crystal clear waters.
But, she could never seem to remember where she saw it or even when. Thinking of that mysterious place brought along a feeling of longing and peace, like that was where she was truly meant to be. How she wished she knew where her family had came from.
Something outside caught her attention. It looked like the had been someone watching her from behind the huge oak tree in her backyard. Her sixth sense awakened. Her heart was beating faster. She felt a sudden chill trickle down her back. All signs of the danger that was lurking around.
She pounced to her feet and exited the house through the back door. The sun had set and made room for the moon. It was a full moon that illuminated the ground with a silvery light. Apart from the moon and stars, the only other light was the pale white light that hung from a pole near her favourite bench.
Beside the bench was her flower garden, her nirvana on the premises but the bright colours were not the ones that struck her like they always did. It was the huge muddy footstep outlined over her favourite flame lillies. She was furious. She loved those flame lillies that she had had to import specially from Zimbabwe.
Still reeling in anger, she suddenly heard light footsteps behind her. She swiveled around and caught a glimpse of the corner of a black leather coat. She sprinted after the imposter who seemed to disappear into thin air. He vanished before her eyes but his sent stayed, lingering in the moist forest air.
She knew he was still around and she just had to follow her nose to get him. She had a sharp nose, sharper than her Grandma's had been. Selena turned to leave, hoping she could fool the imposter into following her inside.
Her plan seemed to be working because she could feel his scent getting stronger the more she approached the house. She entered the kitchen through the backdoor and intentionally left it unlocked. Knowing the imposter was a vampire, she grabbed a silver knife from one of the bottom drawers. She could handle silver objects longer because she was half vampire, half werewolf. Despite the slight burning she felt, she hid it in her pocket and waited.
After a few minutes, the glass door shattered, tiny pieces of glass falling to the floor. A robust man walked in. He had platinum blonde hair and an odd strip of black hair on the front. His eyes, a menacing pale grey, followed her every move as she stood up.
He suddenly pounced at her and threw her into the glass table across the room. She winced as she felt a chunk of the broken glass dig into her back. She rose from the ground and quickly pulled out the glass stuck in her back. Deep red droplets of blood littered the floor in contrast with the pearl white marble tiles.
Her anger flared as she saw the crooked smirk that adorned his scarred face. She ran to his but he seemed to be stronger than her. He caught her midway and threw her onto the floor, which cracked from the impact. Then he grabbed her left leg and twisted, quickly until he heard the sickening crack of her bones.
Selena's scream echoed throughout the house. She had never felt such intense pain, apart from the pain of losing her family. The man laughed as he stood above her writhing body. He couldn't believe how easy it had been to take her down and it would be easier to kill her. He was surprised though, his master had told him she possessed great strength.
During his intense moment of freedom, he hadn't saw her take out her silver knife. She drove it into his thigh and twisted. He roared in pain as the silver burnt his flesh. She took the opportunity to strike his neck. She didn't kill him though, she punched him just enough to render him unconscious.

The man woke up with a terrible pain in his thigh ankles and wrists. He realised that he was tied down silver chains that burnt his flesh. He could see her standing by a table at the other side of the room.
She was a rare beauty, he had to admit. Her long raven black hair trailed all the way to the top of her rounded behind. She turned around to look at him and smiled. She had the same colour of eyes as his but hers were brighter and enchanting. She had soft features and her plump lips were outstretched to reveal a perfect set of pearly whites.
Selena moved towards him and settled in a chair, staring at him. He could see red hot rage brewing inside her eyes and he shuddered visibly. The tiny action hadn't gone unnoticed by Selena her smirk grew wider.
"So, why the heck are you here?" Selena asked.
He stared at her. Not wanting to answer any of her questions. He couldn't. He had sworn to his master's that he wouldn't. If he did his family would suffer. He was doing all that for them. So his mate and young children could have a better future.
"I asked you a question. Why are you here and what do you want." She screamed at his silence.
"To kill you." Came the short response that shocked her.
"Who sent you?" She asked, this time grabbing the silver dagger as if to warn him.
"Someone from the underworld." Answered the man, too afraid to reveal the true identity of his master.
"What is the underworld?"
"Where you come from."
